CHAPTER THIRTY ONE
Days passed swiftly, and as the days passed she got weaker.
The doctor called Catherine into her office again, and told her "If after this surgery, I mean the bone marrow transplantation she doesn't get better. I wouldn't want you to panic, I'd just advise you to be with her and make her last days a happy and memorable one. Right now, she's left with very little strength and she fighting strongly for her life." The doctor told Catherine, she couldn't move her feet, her teeth were glued to her tongue.
'Would she lose her daughter?' Was the one question her brain could process. She stared at the doctor with no expression on her face, she was not ready to lose anyone again, she sobbed silently thinking of the impending danger she sobbed out loudly.
"Please save my daughter." She begged, the words she said every time. She thought of Mirabella's smiling face and gnashed her teeth in pains. "I don't want to lose her."

Michal went to church to pray for her sister, it's been a while she entered the church premises. She got to the altar and knelt gently by the cross"Oh Lord, I know we've been away from you." Michal clasped her hands together in a prayer arrangement."Forgive me, forgive us. My sis is hurting and I can't bear to see Mirabella in pains, it hurts me." She felt a sharp pain in her chest. "Its hurting.""Please God... She's really weak and I'm not sure if she can still hold on a little more but God if she'll leave us, make the rest of her days here painless, grant her peace. Things have gotten worse, the surgery was not successful but Catherine didn't tell her daughter about it.She knew she would break down and she wasn't ready to see her two daughters dejected. There was nothing she knew of that could save Mirabella, something spoke to her to pray but she always waved the thoughts off her mind.'She'd be fine.' Was what her mind kept saying, maybe she was just deceiving herself, maybe Mirabella would never stand on her feet again, she thought of her well being and anticipated her resting in peace forever at the same time.Michal went to school to ease herself of all pains, though she knew a pest was in school to bug her but she had Hammed and he was there for her, there to make sure she was fine.Exams for the second third term was approaching, the students had less classes and the ones that held were mainly for revisions to prepare the student for the exams ahead of them.

"Ruth why are you being so unfair?" Hammed asked, his eyes showing disgust."Lover boy, what have I done again?" She looked at him and shrugged her shoulders, it was clear she didn't care about whatever he wanted to say. She knew the conversation would revolve around Michal and she wasn't interested in matters that concerned her."You know Mirabella is sick, don't you?" He looked at her."Who's Mirabella?" The day was dark, rain droplets fell from the sky and the weather was the perfect definition of parky.Silence filled the room where Mirabella was lying on the bed, her mom had gone home to cook for them and Michal went outside for a short time sightseeing.She was in the midst of many people she had never seen, they were singing beautifully and she joined them to sing, they wore long white robes that flowed on the ground, they were all beautiful and had a smile plastered to their faces.Suddenly, a man in white carried her up and smiled lovingly at her, he different from the other people she sang with. Hammed stood up for her to sit but Michal told him to sit back, she stood up and let her mom sit.Jerry said nothing, he watched them with his hands dipped in his trouser's pocket."Uncle Jerry, come have a seat." Hammed stood for him to sit, he thanked him and sat down."How long have you been here?" Catherine asked Jerry, she knew Michal would have treated him harshly if he had been there for long."Almost an hour, Mira has been sleeping so I decided to wait for you. How are you?" Hammed smiled, Jerry was such a gentleman and he still saw no reason why Michal should detest him.

Exactly a week after she went to church to pray,Mirabella was smiling on the hospital bed where she laid, been a while she smiled gaily. Michal sat close to her and she wondered why she was smiling like that."Mira, why are you smiling?" She asked, her face plastered with smiles too."Cos I'm happy." She said, even her voice was more audible and she glowed different."I need a favour from you Michal.""What's that? I will do anything." She would do anything to make her get better."I want you to go home and prepare my favorite meal please, I want to eat and I want you to prepare the food.""Wow! You want to eat? Wow! Sure, I will go right away." She squealed and stood up immediately. "Where is mom?" She asked."I don't know." She replied, Catherine walked into the room and saw her sick daughter smiling, it was a good sign she thought.
