Chapter 3

The ride to God knows where was silent and awkward. I kept stealing hateful glances at him. I do wonder who this man is and what he could want from me.

“Where are you taking me to?” I blurted out when I realized that we were thousands of miles away from my hometown.

He ignored me and kept his eyes on the road.

“I’m talking to you!” I was tempted to smack his head, and I fell for the temptation.

He released the brakes and the car violently lurched forward and screeched to a stop. The force pushed me off my seat and my forehead met with the dashboard.

I winced and bit my lips to stop tears from spewing out. How can I forget to buckle up the seatbelt?

I slowly raised my head and our eyes met. He was staring at me blankly, I could tell he was enjoying the suffering I was going through.

“You can laugh for all I care!” I snapped and fixed the seatbelt around me.

He sighed and ignited the car again, he drummed his fingers on the steering wheel as he rode.

“Music will be better, that drumming is itching my ears,” I spat, trying to get him upset.

He gave me a side glance and remained mute.

He stopped drumming and started humming a song.

Wait a minute, that’s his voice. I couldn’t take my eyes away from his moving lips as he sang a song I’d never heard before.

His voice was so powerfully intriguing, that he could win a Grammy award with it. Gosh, why did God make him this flawless and perfect?

From his dark curly hair to the tempting arbs hidden beneath that tuxedo. I can tell that he won’t be bad down there either.

No, no, Deborah, snap out of that dirty thought now!

“I can tell you want to know what it tastes like,” he mumbled.

Goodness! He’d caught me, he read my dirty thoughts!

“What?” I asked, feigning to be clueless about what he was talking about.

“You know what I’m talking about.” His eyes stayed fixed on the road.

I bit my lips embarrassingly, I’m certain that the red color has taken its place on my face.

I looked out of the window, avoiding his face. I’m not giving in to those silly thoughts again.

A liquid slid down my forehead and I traced the spot it came from to the side of my forehead that had hit the dashboard, it was wet. I dabbed a finger around it and glanced at the finger. Blood!

I now have a bruise on my forehead too, this is such a pleasant day.

I rested my head on the headrest and unknowingly fell asleep.

~~~~~
A soft tap on my shoulder got my eyes flying open, a lovely little face peered curiously at me.
I sneezed and she backed away.
“I thought she was dead,” she said to someone that I could not see. Me, dead?
“Where am I?” I muttered.
A hard thud in my head got me groaning with my head in my hand.
“Are you okay?” she asked, concerned.
“Where am I ?” I snapped. I shouldn’t be lashing out my anger on the little beauty.
“You’re in my pack,” I heard an unmistakable voice.
I looked up, he was standing beside the girl, whose eyes had become poignant, it seemed like I made her feel bad.
“Your what?”
“Pack,” he responded and swept me into his hands.
“Shut the door, Maylene,” he said to the girl and trudged off.
The wounded part of my forehead kept colliding with his heavy chest as he walked.
“Hey!” I poked his chest. He stopped walking and stared down at me, his lips pursed.
“See,” I pointed at the wound.
He rolled his eyes contemptuously and adjusted me in his arms.
I was able to peek at the environment. It was an idyllic serenity, people walked up and down, but I was surprised that no one passed without bowing to him. I glanced up at his face again.
The deep woods that surrounded the place made me feel nauseous. This was a perfect place to spend a summer camp.
I looked ahead and gasped when I saw a castle standing gallantly at a distance, all my life, I was seeing a castle for the first time.
I only watched them in movies.
He trod into the castle leisurely, ignoring the bows and greetings. I took it upon myself to acknowledge them, I smiled at anyone who bowed to us and they would in turn direct a glare at me pointing out that it wasn’t for me.
It was fun to be in his arms, inhaling his sweet scent and getting undeserved respect from people.
“Can you shut down your thoughts for once?” he seethed.
“It’s not my fault that you can listen to my thoughts, dummy,” I snapped back. He frowned at me knowing fully well that I won’t stop thinking.
“Not like you think about relevant things,” he muttered.
“Well, if you had relevant things to do with your jumbled-up life you wouldn’t be buying a human.”
“You’re not so dumb to realize that you’re a human,” he muttered under his breath, but I heard it loud and clear.
“I’m not surprised that you are not a human, what normal human beings will be reading thoughts.”
He stared down at me and sighed.
Our destination seemed to be far away as we were still on a staircase. I wonder how many flights we have passed, but looking at it, I know I can’t climb these flights of stairs without stopping to catch my breath.
We finally came into a large hallway, beautiful flower pots were placed on each side of the large windows in the hallway. It was covered in sparkling marble from top to bottom. People moved about their business, only stopping to bow to him. They never seemed to care about the pygmy little thing curled up in his hands.
“Alpha!” A voice echoed behind us and he stopped walking.
Is the call for him, and why was he directed as an Alpha?
I have only read about Alphas in werewolf books, well, I’m a huge fan of werewolf books and movies. But I never believed that they existed, it’s just fiction, right?
“Alpha!” a woman emerged from a door and rushed towards him, a man walked up to us from behind. He must be the one who called him the first time.
“I’ve been waiting for you…” the pretty woman stopped talking when she noticed me.
“And what is this?” she waved her fingers at me. I sensed jealousy in her voice.
Ha-ha, she was referring to me as a thing.
“She’s human?” The man added.
“Is she your mate?” the girl I had seen earlier joined the group, peering at me like I was a toy.
The man carrying me didn’t say a word to them.
I stared at the three of them.
Wait a minute, this is all making sense now. Pack, Alpha, human, mate.
“Are you werewolves?” I blurted out.
