Lucy's POV

The stupidity of that Italian.

I walked to my room in utter agitation. Luca and I were barely in the office when I realized that I had to get out of his estate right now. Luca had more time to ascertain who and what I really was the longer I was here. My code name, The Jade Scythe, was mentioned, and I knew he was getting close to understanding everything. I wouldn't be there when he did.

Tonight I was going out. I was leaving as soon as the sun went down and this estate was bathed in darkness. I had very little to assist me in slipping away, but I was resourceful. I went to the window and opened the curtain to look at the guards below.

The moment had come for me to flee as night had set. All day, I had been observing the guards to understand when each one worked. I had to give him credit; Luca was intelligent. Never again were the times the same. They would sometimes take breaks of an hour, fifteen minutes, a half hour, fifteen minutes again, and finally an hour. I antici

  • Sold To The Mafia Don   Chapter 24

Baking with Faye was honestly one of the best things I'd done since I came back. She was funny and sweet and I wondered how in the world the universe would make her meet a man like Antonio. If you compare the two, Faye was an angel next to just Antonio's human presence. She guided me when it came to measuring ingredients and mixing them while she made Luca the errand boy.It was his kitchen, after all, he had to know where everything was. Most times, I found myself smiling lightly, genuinely because the moment seemed so normal, the task painfully mundane and I loved it. I sat next to Faye as she told me about herself, a bright spark in her eye."And then I found out I was pregnant with Luca. I was so scared honestly. I had no one. I was an orphan, I hadn't even finished high school, I had no job, no close friends who would be helpful, and no one I could talk to," she said smiling fondly as her finger traced the rim of her wine glass."What happened?" I asked leaning my head in my hand

I took a bite of the chicken sandwich I had just made. The kitchen was silent because I was the only one around. I mean, it was 2 am. I just got a little hungry and came down to eat. It's been two days since Alexa was supposed to find out more about me but she still had to stick to my side like Luca wanted so I didn't escape. She hadn't had a chance to go out of the estate as far as I was concerned and all phone calls were monitored in one of the secret rooms I'd found yesterday, hiding from security. They had gone a little crazy when they didn't find me so that was amusing on my side. I picked up my cup of juice, drowning half of it. Who knew how much I'd missed food? The "safe house" usually gave the girls nutritious snack bars that had white wrapping paper. They were one of the reasons I hated white. The snack bars were filled with all the nutrients our bodies needed and we were constantly fed water. Being healthy sucks. I'd rather chow down on fast food and home-cooked meals for t

I leaned back in the leather seat, my eyes scanning over the food menu."You can't expect me to eat here do you?" Alexa asked in disgust as her eyes covered every inch of the small diner we were in.The floor had black and white tiles, the booths had red seats and worn-out wooden tables between them. It smelt like chips and cakes in here. The air was slightly hot and the place seemed stuffy because of how crowded it was.Everyone here was basic, just like I loved it to be. The chef who I had seen through the window had a greasy white apron that just this place seem great."Who said I came here for you?" I asked Alexa, still scanning the menu."Hey there. I'm Anna. Welcome to Roadhouse Diner. What can I get you two this fine mornin'?" a dirty blonde girl said coming up to us. She had a Southern accent."Hi, Anna. Can I get..." I looked at the foods that would be best for my condition right now. "A chicken salad, extra spinach, and raisins with a glass of pomegranate juice. Please."I w

I lazily pulled a huge black hoodie over my head. With a tired sigh, I pulled my hair up in a bun. Glancing in the mirror, I could see my efforts were a huge fail. I just turned away, pulling on black sneakers. I walked out of my room to find the apartment empty. The others had left much earlier. I was the only one here.Walking to the fridge, I grabbed a bottle of water. I opened it and took small sips of water. I was extremely exhausted and in need of some-A knock sounded at the door and I knew who it was when it suddenly opened without me having to walk all the way there. Alexa dressed in tight black pants, black heels, and a loose long-sleeved white shirt strolled in like the place was a Victoria's Secret runway. Her brown hair was up in a neat ponytail."You look like a hobo," she commented. I looked down at my grey sweatshirt, black hoodie, and black sneakers. I just put the bottle of water down and stuffed my hands in my pockets as I walked past her.I was too tired to deal wi

Never in my life had I been rendered speechless like I was at this moment. My mouth opened and closed, no sound leaving it while my eyes were glued to Luca's dark ones. He looked at me waiting, calmly, patiently. I knew anger shimmered behind his cold gaze but why?The hits Maddox gave me were necessary, hell I even asked for them. I didn't think Luca would care for the damage on my face or ask how I got them. I hadn't prepared for this moment.I wasn't prepared.Since the "safe house," I had been trained to be ready for anything. Kidnapped by the U.S. government, I could escape. Left stranded in a desert, I could survive. Abandoned in Antarctica, I could live. Strapped to a chair with a bomb, I could save my life. Stranded on an island, I could get back. Bound and anchored to the bottom of the sea, I could free myself. But never in those 4 years was I prepared for the intense gaze of a man by the name of Luca. Never in those 4 years was I prepared for the warmth of his hands on my li

"The man who did this, do you remember his face?" Elliot asked with a frown. I shook my head."I didn't get time to memorize it. I was just so scared and he kept hitting me and I was so powerless," I said sadly."Hey," Elliot said turning my face to his. "You are not powerless. You seem like a very strong and independent woman.""Thanks, Elliot," I said with a small smile.Gag much."No problem. I just wish I had gotten there in time. What were you doing in the hallway?""I was looking for you. After you left, I got bored quickly and... I've never met someone like you, Elliot. You just make things so much easier," I said sliding my hand onto his where it rested on the couch. He entwined our fingers and gave me a soft smile.Don't pull away."I'm sorry. I feel like this is all my fault," Elliot said sighing."Oh no. Don't blame yourself," I said quickly but Elliot glanced away from me. Despite the way my body was repulsed, I put my hand on his cheek and turned him to face me. "You save
