Isabella's POV]

“Don’t move,” he remarked from the other side of the door.

I barely heard him. I was staring at the photograph in my hand: my mother, younger than I remembered her, standing beside Victor Valenti with a newborn wrapped in a white blanket. Her expression was guarded, there was something about the way she held the child close. It was intentional.

The words on the back blurred before my eyes.

(The child was never Marco’s)

I looked at Roberto. “What does this mean?”

He took a deep b

Isabella's POV]I stared at the screen, unable to look away from Stefano's signature. For years, he had been part of the Valenti family. He had sat at their table, attended family gatherings and spoken about Victor as though his death had destroyed him. Yet his name appeared on an agreement designed to keep my family under control.“Tell me this is not what it looks like,” I whispered.Dante remained silent.Enzo enlarged the document. “The agreement was created two days after Victor's murder. Samuel Cross authorised the security arrangements, while Stefano signed as the family representative.”“What arrangements?” Luca asked.Enzo scrolled down.“Protection for Maria and Sofia Rossi. Surveillance around their residence. Instructions that Isabella was not to be approached, harmed or removed without approval from the person controlling the agreement.”My stomach tightened.“Who was controlling it?”Enzo shook his head. “The name is missing from this copy. Someone removed the final page

Isabella's POV]Dante was already issuing orders before Enzo finished the call.“Get another team to the Rossi house. Nobody approaches the property until they confirm the perimeter is clear,” he said. “I want Maria and Sofia moved somewhere secure. Quietly.”I reached for my phone, but Dante caught my wrist.“Wait.”“They could be in danger.”“And calling them now could alert whoever is watching.”His words made sense. I hated that they did.Enzo ended his call. “The guards at the house aren't answering.”My stomach dropped. “What?”“They may have lost signal. I'm trying the backup line.”Dante turned to Luca. “Take two men. Use the eastern road. Matteo, stay here with Richard and Collins. If anyone tries to leave, stop them.”“I’m coming with you,” I said.“No,” Dante replied.“Don't start.”He looked at me, and I held his gaze. “Those are my mother and sister. I won't sit here while you decide what happens to them.”For a moment, the room seemed to hold its breath. Then he picked u

Isabella's POV]The message remained on Enzo’s screen long after the car fell silent.(You have the wrong enemy, ask Richard who gave him the order)Dante read it again, his expression unreadable. Luca sat opposite us, pressing a hand against the cut above his eyebrow. Matteo drove, checking the mirrors more often than necessary.“Could be a trick,” Luca said.“Of course it could,” Dante replied. “That doesn't mean we ignore it.”We had escaped the storage facility with evidence, but Richard, Cross and Arthur had all been connected to Victor's murder in different ways. Now someone wanted us to believe there was another person directing them.“Ask Richard,” I said. “He's alive. We can question him.”Dante turned to me. “And if he refuses?”“Then we find a reason he won't.”Dante ignored him. “First, we secure the evidence. Enzo, make copies of everything in that case. Keep the originals offline. I don't want another remote deletion.”Enzo nodded. “Already working on it.”When we reache

  • Sold To The Valenti Brothers   Chapter 53

Isabella's POV]The eastern outskirts of the city looked deserted when we arrived.Dante sat beside me in the back seat, studying the storage facility through the tinted window. Luca was in the passenger seat, while Enzo monitored the security cameras from his laptop. Collins sat in the vehicle behind us with Matteo. We had spent two days tracking the payments Richard Hale made to the facility. Now, according to Enzo, the same false identity connected to Samuel Cross had been used to access one of its units.“Unit seventeen,” Enzo announced, turning his laptop towards Dante. “Richard's vehicle entered the premises twenty minutes ago.”Dante studied the screen.“Anyone else?”“One vehicle arrived before him. The registration is false, but I found something interesting.”He enlarged an image showing a man carrying a black case.Collins leaned forward from the other vehicle. Matteo had brought him close enough to see the screen.“I know that man,” Collins said through the phone connectio

Isabella's POV]For several minutes, nobody spoke.Samuel Cross. The name meant nothing to me, but the way Dante reacted told me it meant something to him. He stared through the windscreen, his hands gripping the steering wheel until his knuckles whitened.“Tell me about him,” I said.“He worked for my father for almost twenty years,” Dante replied. “He managed security at the mansion, the warehouses and the private properties. Victor trusted him with every access code.”“And he disappeared after the funeral?”“Three days later. His apartment was empty. His car was found near the river. The police assumed he had drowned.”Collins shifted in the back seat. “He didn't drown. I saw him six months after the funeral.”Dante turned sharply. “Where?”“At a petrol station outside the city. He was wearing a cap, but I recognised his limp. I tried to follow him. He noticed and drove away.”“Why didn't you tell anyone?”“Because I was already being watched. I had a daughter to protect.”Dante fa

  • Sold To The Valenti Brothers   Chapter 51

Isabella's POV]The photograph of Collins remained on my phone long after Enzo had copied it.His hands were tied behind a chair. A bruise darkened his cheek, but his eyes were open. Behind him stood a wall painted with a faded blue stripe.“Can you identify the location?” Dante asked.Enzo enlarged the image. “Not from the photograph alone. The file was stripped of its location data.”“Then find the vehicle,” Luca said.“I’m working on it.”Dante paced the room, his anger contained but unmistakable. Collins was more than a witness now. He was the one person who could identify the unknown man who had helped Marco enter the warehouse.“We need him alive,” Dante said. “Richard knows that.”“Maybe that’s why he sent the photograph,” I replied. “He wants us to come after Collins.”“It's a trap.”“Probably. But if we do nothing, Collins may not survive long enough to tell us anything.”Dante stopped pacing. “We won't abandon him. We'll make them think we're taking the bait.”Enzo turned hi
