I feel small warm hands on my cheeks. “Where are you right now?” She asks in a small voice. Her concern for me broke her out of whatever trance she was in. I turn my eyes on her and without speaking grab her waist and pull her onto my lap so she is straddling me. I wrap my arms around her and bury my face in her neck. She places her arms gently around my neck and begins to stroke my hair.
“Please don’t leave.” I say, tears forming behind my eyes. I sit up straighter and pull her as close as she can be to me, tightening my grip around her waist. I am looking her right in the eyes, trying to convey how serious I am about this. “I don’t know what I would do if you left.” A tear fell as I said it and she cupped my face again and kissed the spot on my cheek where the tear fell.

Thank you to everyone who has followed the journey. The last two weeks have been family focused and I will have the next chapter up by the end of the week. Thank you for sticking with me through this process. As a new writer who joined in the midst of covid to try something new to occupy my ADHD, I never really understood how the process of writing really worked. To all authors reading, I appreciate all of the work and long hours you put into your writing. I have been inspired by so many of you and I have a new appreciation for what goes into creating a story worth reading.

Lindsey When we arrive, the first thing that hits me is the sheer size of the event. People are everywhere. The line of limos seems almost endless. I was not new to this world, but I never enjoyed it so I avoided events like these. My grandmother never forced me to attend and Ralph was always at these functions for our company.
