LOGINJanelle's POV
“Where do you expect me to go?” My voice came out hollow, broken beneath the weight crushing my chest, but somehow loud enough to silence the room for a moment. I slowly pushed myself up from the floor, every part of my body aching, my dignity already in pieces at their feet. My swollen eyes found Kennedy’s face. “You know I have no family,” I whispered. “You know I have nowhere else to go.” Kennedy did not soften, not even for a second. He simply slipped one arm around Brenda’s waist and drew her closer, his touch gentle in a way he had not touched me in months. “You can sleep in the streets for all I care,” he said coldly. “Sleep in a shelter. Sleep in a zoo. Sleep wherever abandoned things go when they are no longer wanted.” His gaze dropped meaningfully to Brenda’s stomach before returning to me. “My concern is my child and the woman carrying that child. Whatever Brenda wants, Brenda gets.” His voice hardened. “But I suppose you cannot relate to that kind of blessing.” The words struck like a knife twisted slowly inside my chest. Pain gave way to anger so suddenly it made my whole body shake. “Don’t say that to me!” My scream echoed through the room. Tears blurred my vision, but rage burned hotter. “Do not stand there and speak to me like I have never carried your child. I was pregnant once, Kennedy. I lost that baby while breaking my back for this family while your mother treated me like unpaid staff, your siblings treated me like garbage, and you stood there and allowed it!” My chest rose sharply. “I buried that child alone while you buried yourself in your precious Brenda’s memory.” The room fell silent. For one fleeting second, guilt flickered in Kennedy’s eyes but it vanished. I lifted my chin. “I am not leaving my matrimonial home because of this woman. I will stay right here, and there is nothing you or anybody in this room can do about it.” Brenda slowly lifted her hand and rubbed soothing circles against Kennedy’s chest. “Relax, baby,” she murmured softly. “You don’t need to stress yourself over someone like her. I know exactly how to handle women like Janelle.” Then she turned toward me. “Listen carefully,” she said. “You have two options tonight.” She stepped closer, heels clicking sharply against marble. “You can kneel before me, apologize for your disrespect, unpack every one of my suitcases, steam my clothes for tomorrow night’s dinner, prepare my bath, and sleep outside my bedroom door …” Her smile widened. “Or you can spend the night in the basement.” The word alone stole the breath from my lungs. My heart began pounding violently, still, anger kept my mouth moving. I laughed bitterly. “Are you seriously giving me options in my husband’s house?” My eyes dragged over her slowly then I smiled coldly. “Let me ask you something instead. Aren’t you ashamed of yourself?” Brenda’s face hardened instantly. “Excuse me?” “You heard me,” I said sharply. “You should be ashamed. Do you know how pathetic this makes you look?” I stepped closer. “You’re beautiful, rich, polished, and supposedly everything a man could want, yet you still came crawling back to your ex’s house to steal another woman’s marriage.” Her face darkened but I didn’t stop. “So tell me, Brenda, even with your perfect body, perfect face, and perfect family name, could you still not find a man of your own?” I tilted my head mockingly. “Or was Kennedy the only fool still willing to wait while you sampled other options?” “Kennedy, did you hear her?” Brenda shrieked, clutching his arm dramatically. “Did you hear what this fat fool just said to me?” I gave a sharp laugh. “I agree, I’m fat. But what does that say about you? He replaced me with you. If you were truly that unforgettable, he would have created space for you long ago. Instead, you had to come back pregnant and tie him down with a child.” “Enough!” Kennedy’s voice thundered through the room. I turned toward him, breathing hard. “Oh, please,” I spat bitterly. “You’re ruining your marriage for a woman who walked away from you to chase status and freedom. No, let me correct myself, for a woman who discarded you when you were beneath her family’s standards and only returned when it suited her.” I shook my head slowly. “I am ashamed of you, Kennedy.” The slap came fast and hard. My face whipped violently to the side as sharp pain exploded across my cheek. Slowly, I turned back and stared at him in disbelief. Tears gathered instantly. “Did you just hit me?” His chest rose and fell heavily, eyes blazing. “If you say one more word about Brenda, I will do far worse than slap you.” He pointed toward the hallway. “Pack your things. You are done here.” “I’m not going anywhere.” My voice trembled, but I stood my ground. His expression turned frighteningly calm. “You think I’m joking?” Then he looked at his family and that was all it took. His mother moved first, followed by his siblings and then strong hands grabbed me. I screamed instantly. “No…leave me alone! Put me down, I'm not going anywhere!” Panic shot through me like lightning as they dragged me across the floor toward the back corridor. My whole body went cold. “No!” I shrieked, thrashing violently. “Please, not there. Anywhere but there. Kennedy, please! I’m begging you. Don’t lock me in there!” The walls seemed to close in before I was even inside. “No, no, no—please!” They threw me inside and I hit the floor hard before the door slammed shut. From outside, Fiona’s amused voice floated through the thick door. “When you finally learn your place, maybe we’ll let you out.”Brenda's POV I was curled up on the sofa with my legs crossed, barely paying attention to the television while I waited for Fiona to bring my food. The pregnancy had made me unusually particular about what I wanted to eat, and after the disaster at breakfast, I had specifically asked for something spicy enough to satisfy my craving without making me sick. When Fiona finally appeared from the kitchen carrying a tray, I immediately sat up. “Finally.” She placed the plate on the coffee table in front of me without saying a word and turned as though she intended to leave. I picked up the spoon, scooped a little food into my mouth and immediately spat it back onto the plate. “What the hell is this?” Fiona spun around. “What did you just do that for?” I stared at her in disbelief. “I should be asking you that. Are you trying to kill me and my baby?” Her eyebrows shot upward. “I made exactly what you asked for.” “I asked for something spicy. I didn't ask you to pour an entire

Brenda's POV I woke up the next morning in an unusually foul mood. The other side of the bed was already empty, which meant Kennedy had left for work without waking me. Normally, I would have been annoyed that he had gone without saying goodbye, but the moment another wave of nausea rolled through my stomach, I forgot about him completely. Pregnancy was becoming increasingly inconvenient and stressful. I pushed myself out of bed, slipped into a silk robe, and made my way downstairs, hoping I could find something that would settle my stomach. Unfortunately, the moment I entered the dining room, the smell of pancakes and oatmeal hit me. My stomach lurched violently. "Take that away!" Everyone at the table froze. I pressed a hand over my mouth and hurried toward the nearest window. "I swear I'm going to throw up. Why does the whole house smell like that?" Kennedy's mother immediately stood up, looking alarmed. "Goodness, Brenda, I'm so sorry. Fiona, take the pancakes away.
Janelle’s POV “What do you mean?” The question had barely left my lips when Zane stepped closer, his hands settling around my waist with a confidence that immediately made my heartbeat quicken. Before I could figure out what he intended to do, he lifted me onto the edge of the wide executive desk, sending a few papers sliding across the polished surface. I stared up at him, suddenly very aware of how close we were. The memory of last night came rushing back without warning, and I hated how easily my body betrayed me whenever I thought about it. I remembered the warmth of his skin beneath my fingers, the sound of his voice whispering my name, and the tenderness that had followed afterward. It was still difficult to believe that I had allowed myself to become that vulnerable with him, especially after spending so long believing intimacy was something I should be ashamed of. Zane leaned closer, his lips brushing against my neck. A shiver travelled through me. “Zane,” I whispe
Zane's POV All through the drive to my company, I couldn't stop thinking about Janelle. Last night had replayed in my mind so many times that I had eventually given up trying to focus on anything else. There was something about the way she had responded to me, the way she had slowly let her guard down despite all the things she'd been through, that had stayed with me long after we'd finally fallen asleep. At twenty-eight, I wasn't exactly inexperienced when it came to women, but Janelle had affected me in a way I hadn't expected. She wasn't simply beautiful; she was exactly my type of woman, with her soft curves, gorgeous face, and the kind of natural sensuality that didn't need to be forced. What surprised me most was how perfectly we matched sexually. She had matched my energy without hesitation, and there was something incredibly addictive about that. I smiled when I remembered how embarrassed she'd been afterward, as though she couldn't believe she'd actually allowed her
Kennedy's POV “Did you just raise your voice at me because of a necklace?” Brenda's voice trembled as she stared at me, her eyes already filling with tears. She looked genuinely offended, as though the fact that I had just lost a billion-dollar contract had somehow become less important than the way I had spoken to her. I dragged a hand down my face, trying to control the frustration burning through me. “Brenda, that isn't what I meant.” “No, don't do that, Kenn.” She shook her head, stepping away from me. “You don't get to speak to me like that and then act like nothing happened. You came home angry, you told me I was insensitive, and now you're blaming me because you lost some contract. Am I the reason you lost the Bellasimo deal?” I stared at her. “Yes.” The moment the word left my mouth, her expression changed. “You're the reason,” I continued, my anger getting the better of me. “I listened to your recording. I trusted what you told me to say, and I repeated it in tha
