Chapter eighteen
I woke the next morning to Kelly looking down at me, propped up on her elbow. She gives a light smile and kisses my forehead. "Good morning," she says quietly, brushing hair off my forehead.
"Everything okay," I ask in a murmured whisper.
She nods lightly and says softly with a smile, "Just admiring how cute my wife looks sleeping."
"Sorry I ruined your moment," I say quietly and she gives me a kiss.
"It's okay," she says quietly as Claire walks in with my medication and her prenatal vitamin. "Thank you Claire."
"You're welcome," she says with a smile. She looks at me and asks shyly, "Are you up for me helping Kelly give you a sponge bath today?"
I raise eyebrows at Kelly and she lets out a light laugh. "Claire's already seen everything. She's been one of your nurses since we met," she chokes quietly at the end. "You've just been unconscious when she's helped change you into a hospital gown."

Kelly was nearing the end if her pregnancy with just two days to go. She's been moody and Claire and I do the best we can to keep her calm. It's been mostly Claire who gets her to calm down while I'm working. I'd calm her down the rest of the way when I get home. Though today was different, when I came home it was quiet. Two weeks have passed since the twins were born. We were able to take them home a few days after they were born. The first twin we named after Kennedy. The second twin we named Peyton. Thankfully she hasn't had any problems with her breathing since I revived her at birth. It was the middle of the night when I heard whimpers from the nursery. I carefully slip out of bed and enter the nursery. I peer down at the twins and Peyton's face was scrunched up, like she was ready to start wailing. I look at at Kennedy and she was sleeping peacefully. I quickly scoop Peyton out of the crib and take her to a rocking chair. She immediately calms in my arms, keeping my eye contact. Her eyes droop with sleep and turns her face in my chest. She grasps at my shirt, shuttering a sleepy sigh. I gently rock the chair and she curls up in my arms. I feel my eyes get heavy as I rock her back to sleep. I close my eyes and let out a tired sigh.

Two weeks passed with Claire making it to her second trimester. I requested the day off after I came home last night and she was emotional, moreso than usual.
