MasukLinda POV
"Hey, he's coming." Hazel nudged my arm and that's when I saw Drake coming in a bright red hoodie. Two days ago since I swore at Drake, he hadn't appeared in front of me again. I didn't see him at the ice rink during practice either. I didn't think anything of it, it just felt strange. I was worried he was devising a plan to trap me. And now, he appears again. I reflexively looked to my left, there was an empty seat. He might as well sit there so before he does, I stand up and look for the only seat left and flanked by other people, which is at the back. "Where are you going?" Hazel asked. "I'm so sleepy. If it's up front here I can't sleep. So I'm going to the back to sleep for a while." Before Hazel could say anything more and before Drake could sit next to me, I had already moved. And know what? My guess was right. Drake was sitting next to my chair earlier. What exactly is the meaning of all your actions Drake? Yesterday you pushed me too far but now you're coming closer like a baited fish. Do you think I'm the bait? Don't be so confident. I'm not going to bait myself to you, Drake. ***** "I can't. I have an appointment. You'll just have to go by yourself this time." I took Hazel's hand off my bag. She was taking me to see the hockey team practice. I mean, of course I wouldn't volunteer to go after what I said to Drake the other night. "Well, it would have been fun because the others had come along. But what the hell. Take care, I'll see you tomorrow." I waved back and hurried to leave. I called a number that had been saved in my phone for a long time. "Where are you? I want us to meet." [In the locker room.] "What? Why are you there?" [I'm about to officially join the college's ice hockey team.] So Drake accepted Jude? After the tension between the two, Drake still decided to accept Jude? How strange. [Come here. There's no one here. You can enter through the back door if you don't want to be seen by others.] Huft, I have no other choice. I had to see Jude anyway. So I walked in the opposite direction to head to the usual practice building. I entered at the door directed by Jude. He was waiting there and just as I was about to say something, he entered first. "It's better to talk here than outside," he said. He took something from the locker and took it out. "This is my new number, 71. My position as right defender." "You gave up your position as captain for this?" He laughed as he shook his head. "I can choose any path in life I want, Linda. I can be whatever I want to be." It was easy for him because of his position and what he had. He didn't have to worry about anything but himself. You're different Jude, not everyone has a choice like you. Some, like me, can only do one thing all their lives to feel alive. "Alright, so what do you want to tell me?" "I want you to tell me more about Drake and my parents' relationship. I want the common thread." "Oh my bad. I don't know the details." "Don't lie, Jude. You were the one who convinced me in the beginning that Drake was one of the killers. You even knew that he was looking for a healer. You're not lying to me, are you?" "Of course not. It's just... you know Linda, I don't want to say this but I feel like I have to." "Just tell me, I'll do anything if you tell me more. I really need the information, Jude." Jude slowly walked over to me before stopping and taking my hand in his. "Be my girlfriend, Linda. That way I can ensure your safety. However, if you know more and investigate, danger will definitely come to you. So you need someone who can protect you. I can mobilize all my people to help you if you get into trouble." This time I nodded without hesitation. It was no big deal. "But I also want to set boundaries. I agree to be your girlfriend but no sex." "Agreed. Is kissing allowed?" I shook my head firmly. "No sex and no kissing. I don't like you yet, Jude. And I agreed to be your girlfriend because I need something from you. You know I'm not the type who fall in love easily, right?" "Yes, I got it. You've never had a boyfriend. I understand, I'll be patient until you have feelings for me. But if anyone questions our relationship, we have to do something to dispel their suspicions. And one more thing, I have the right to decide whether we keep dating or break up." I sighed. "So what do you know about Drake's involvement?" "His mom has a rare condition where there is no medical cure. It's called Moon Disease because it only happens on full moon nights. When it happens, his mom is not like his mom, loses control, becomes dangerous. Because of this condition, his father cheated on his mom and left them. That's why Drake is trying to find a healer because he wants to heal his mother. He doesn't want to lose his mother after losing a father figure." Jude's explanation made me gasp. I never thought that Drake, who's cold and untouchable could hold such a heavy thing. It turned out that he was just like everyone else who had flaws. He's not a perfect person. But that doesn't mean I pity him. I didn't pity the person who was allegedly involved in the incident that happened to my parents. "Then where is his mother now if she's still alive?" "Only Drake knows about that. He hid it so tightly that I couldn't get a single piece of information about it. That's all I know about him. I don't keep secrets from you anymore, Linda. I've told you everything."Linda POV"That won't happen," I said. I followed him. "No one will think we're dating. Everyone already knows that you and I are dating."Jude glanced at me. "Rumours spread very quickly on campus, Linda. Today there's nothing, tomorrow suddenly everyone will think you have two boyfriends at the same time."I stopped. "If you're asking me to stay away from Drake completely, that's impossible, Jude. We're in the same class, we're in the same department. It's impossible.""If you can't stay away from him, then you have to always stay close to me."Oh, I see. If that's what he wants, it means he just wants to trap me so I'm tied to him. It felt pointless to run away here if he was still controlling my life. I left the pack to be free, not to be restrained. "Why did you stop? Don't you wanna go to the club?"The club he was referring to was a club consisting of people from our pack, who had moved here with him temporarily. Jude formed it. He named the club the 'Shadowclaw Society'. He
Linda POV Jude closed the door as soon as we arrived at the clinic. He locked it and approached me. Meanwhile, I remained alert. I stood still, but if Jude did something unexpected, I could attack him back."Are you sober? He's Drake, Linda. You know exactly who Drake is. You even suspect him. But you went out with him anyway, without telling me." He walked slowly forward. "Do you like him?""Nonsense, Jude!" I replied loudly. "Then what is this? What you did is the same as cheating on me."I held back my laughter. "We're not even dating because we love each other. So stop acting like you're hurt, Jude.""That's you, you don’t love me. But I love you, Linda."I smiled and turned my face aside. "Glad you know.""I forbade you from getting closer to Drake, but you did the opposite," he protested.I sighed. Honestly, today I was tired enough to deal with Drake and Mrs. Baker. So I really didn't want to deal with Jude too. Or I would turn into a lion right now."What are you planning,
Linda POV"You can get off now, Linda," Drake said. I got off Drake's motorcycle. "Okay." I turned around to meet Jude, who was waiting for me in the library. But I couldn't because Drake pulled my bag. "How can I contact you? I mean, I don't know what time you're free tomorrow to go there again."I sighed and looked for my phone in my bag. "Do I need to meet you at the clinic again?"I held out my palm. "Where's your phone?""Just a minute." Drake looked for it in his bag. Then he gave it to me. I connected one of my and Drake's chat applications. After it was successful, I returned the phone to him. "Call me on that number. You see my name, right? Linda."Drake looked at his phone screen and a smile appeared on his face. "Okay. I understand.""Okay. Then I'll be going now," I said goodbye. I put my phone back in my bag and walked a little faster after receiving a new message from Jude. "Linda, wait."I stopped, took a deep breath, and turned around. "What else?"Drake pointed t
Linda POVI stopped walking and turned to look at Drake. I looked at him seriously. "I know you're just making up excuses. Your mother doesn't look tired. So what's the real reason you ended our conversation when I didn't get a clear picture of her condition?"I didn't expect Drake to pull me into a room that I later found out was a library. He closed the door and blocked it with his body. "I want to tell you and remind you, if possible, not to talk like that in public. My mother might hear it. And that would be a disaster."I folded my arms. "Now we're here. So just answer my question."Drake sighed. "Mom doesn't look tired, but she doesn't look calm. I'm just worried she might get mad and hurt us all.""She accepted me nicely. I don't think she would do that," I said."She's uncomfortable with your questions.""Which ones?""I don't know. But it seems like there's one sentence or question that makes her react uncomfortably."If that's Drake's answer, then don't expect me to believe
Drake POV It was nothing new for my mother to call me by my brother's name instead of my own. I might have been angry and upset in the past, but now I accepted it. As long as she doesn't throw a tantrum, that's enough for now. As long as I don't add to her suffering, it doesn't matter if she doesn't recognise me. "Oh by the way, Jake, could you get my journal about my time with your father? It's under my pillow." I was quite surprised when she said that. If she kept the journal that close to her, it meant her emotions were unstable. Bloody hell, I only found out now. No one told me. If I had known, I wouldn't have asked Linda to come with me today. But what can I do, it's too late now. What started here must be finished as soon as possible. "Jake?" My brother's name was called again. Not by my mother, but this time by Linda. She smiled and gave me a look with her eyes. "Oh right, ma, I'll get it for you," I replied finally. "Thank you, my dear. I can always count
Linda POV"Meet Linda, she's my mom, Riley," Drake whispered.I blinked a few times to make sure I was seeing right. Riley, I'd never heard that name before. But her face looked familiar. It was like I'd met her before. But where?"Hey, what's wrong? Have you started the treatment?" Drake patted my shoulder. I removed his hand from there. "I haven't done anything yet. I'm just observing her to analyze her condition.""Oh, okay. Let me know when you start."I just nodded as I watched her approach me. Her gaze was probing. Perhaps, like me, who was also a little surprised, she just wanted to find out who I was. She stopped when she reached me. She looked me up and down and looked back at me with a curious expression. Actually, being stared at like this made me want to talk. But I remembered Drake's words that I shouldn't talk to his mother without his instructions. Besides, I also didn't want to suddenly make her emotions unstable. Physically, she was fine, but mentally, she was
