What if the college Hockey Captain, who is known for being cold and never kissing girls first, suddenly kissed you, a cheerleader flyer, at a Halloween party? Your best friend told you that the Captain is a guy who plays with girls. But after a deep dive, you know that he's not what your best friend or anyone else thought he was. He's more complex than that. And you're the only one who knows the Captain's secret that he....

“Now!” They lifted my body and threw me into the air. My body floated and in those few seconds I did two backflips. After that the backspots caught me and then tossed me again one last time before all of us, Maple Vagabond cheerleaders, did our final closing moves by holding hands and bending 90 degrees. I flash my smile as the crowd gave us a standing ovation for our performance. But when I saw the only hockey player who wasn't smiling at all like the others, my smile quickly faded. The number 87 player from Willow Guardian, the opposing team, not only had a cold expression on his face, but he also let out a snicker that I could hear from here. Seriously, what's wrong with him? Why is he giving me that look? Okay, our college team is indeed going to compete, but is it necessary to show such unfriendliness when meeting an enemy team? I jumped when the cheer captain tapped my shoulder and directed me to follow the other members out of the ice rink. "Linda, that wasn't what we practiced but I honestly don't know how you did it," she said. Oh about that backflip, we had agreed to do it just once. But since there was still enough time and I could do it faster, I did it twice. "It's actually no problem, it's just that I'm worried if you get injured." I just gave a faint smile to assure her that I was fine. We went straight to the bleachers, behind the players' seats. "Are you okay?" Jude looked at me with concern. "Everything cool." He took off the gloves he had been using to reach out to me and rubbed my hand. I quickly withdrew my hand, making him shake his head. "Make sure to watch until the end. Don't leave first even if you want to." Then he glanced at player 87 who was looking at me. "I know you're uncomfortable because of him." Unfortunately even if I wanted to leave, I couldn't because I wasn't on my campus so I didn't know this place. The match was at Willow Da Vinci College, on the opposing team. "Go on. You need to get to the ice rink," I said to Jude. Before he left, he turned around and pointed to his jersey number, number 21. He wanted to get my support, that's why. I could only sigh. Luckily he didn't do anything more embarrassing and joined the team right away. I volunteered to join the cheer team. I like ice hockey, but I don't like Jude. Even though he was very popular because he was the hockey captain on campus, I didn't like his attitude of paying excessive attention, it made me feel uncomfortable. I wanted to avoid Jude as much as possible. But I ended up here instead. Finally the whistle was blown by the face-offs, signaling the start of the game. Do you know player number 87 who saw me earlier? He played brutally. The game has only just started but he's already managed to send the puck into our team's goal. He played with great agility and his movement was deceptive. The game got even more heated when player number 87 kept scoring over and over again, leaving our team far behind. I could even see how frustrated Jude was with that player. And until the game ended, our team could only score 24 points while the opposing team reached 89 points. ***** "What do you want to order, pretty?" "I don't want to get drunk tonight. Just sitting is fine, right?" "Sure." The bartender smiled and then his face lit up. "Hey Drake! Congratulations on your game today. You were amazing as always." I smelled a warm and strong scent like a blend of patchouli, amber, bergamot and tonka. But it wasn't a perfume scent, it was a distinctive scent that belonged to every single one of us. And each individual scent was different. Shortly after, the person named Drake sat down on the chair next to me. I turned my head and was surprised. I couldn't remember Drake's name but I remembered he was the number 87 player who scored the most goals and gave me a cold stare. "Something wrong?" I blinked a few times then shook my head. It wasn't just his gaze, but his voice sounded cold too. "Stop looking at me like I'm something scary. I know you're just like me." I swallowed my saliva. I don't know why I suddenly lost all my words. His aura was truly intimidating. "To our beloved Guardian captain." He drank his drink in one gulp and then turned his seat around, facing me. "You're not joining the rest of your cheers?" His eyes darted somewhere. "They love being teased by the players." What did he mean by saying that? Does he think I'm slutty because my team members are? If he does, then he's really- "Linda!" It was Jude. He came over to me and put his arm around my shoulders. "I didn't know you were here with Alpha Pack Houghton." I was sure that due to the loud music it was impossible for anyone else to hear Jude, but the three of us could clearly hear him. And I just found out that he's an Alpha too, just like Jude. I could see the lopsided smile on Drake's face. "No wonder you're here. Apparently you already have a boyfriend." "Yes, she's my partner." It happened so fast when Jude suddenly kissed me. When I realized, I immediately pushed him away and slapped him which made them look at me with surprise. It had been enough for me to hold back from exploding. This time Jude had gone too far. He kissed me without permission and I hated it! It was my first kiss! "I'm not your partner and don't ever kiss me again." I emphasized every word I said. My hands were shaking afterward. I don't know what was going through Drake's mind, but he grabbed my hand, leading me away from here. He led me into a deserted hallway with no one passing by. He also let go of my hand in the end. "Since I saved you, I'd like to ask for something in return." I reflexively glared. "I didn't ask for your help." "Regardless, I got you out of a situation that would have harmed you. The reward I'm asking for is, I want you to explain who you are." I furrowed my brows. What does that mean? Didn't he know my name and my pack when Jude called me earlier? Suddenly he placed one hand beside my head, confining me between his body. "This is very strange. It's only your mind that I can't read." What? So his ability is to read minds? Ah no wonder why he was able to predict the opposing team's movements earlier. But I can't let him know more about me. He might do something if I tell him. I just got to know him too and he also showed a lack of attitude from the start. So telling him maybe could get me into trouble. "If you don't know why, then how would I know?" "I won't let you go until you explain who you are." Gosh, it looks like this isn't going to end. He's so persistent. But I couldn't stay here forever or the others would get suspicious. So I did a crazy thing I'd never thought of before. I put my hand to the back of his nape, lowered his head and then kissed him. It was only a few seconds because afterwards I had to run because the cheer captain called me.Linda POV"Are you ready, Linda?"I nodded firmly. A second later my body flew upwards and I did a backflip and landed perfectly. Finally today's practice for the game in two weeks later was over. We did well so there wasn't much revision. "Good job," I say to Hazel. She's very talented, I admit it. "He comes." Hazel's eyes glanced behind me.When I looked back, it was Jude that she was referring to.There is a price to pay for every decision I make. However, the information Jude gave me yesterday was very meaningful and I had to keep my promise to him, to be his girlfriend. My heart actually resists, but Jude is my only source of information right now. So I have to be good to him if I want him to keep giving me more information because I'm sure Jude has more. I thought Jude was going to say hello to Hazel, but I was wrong. Jude kissed me instead, on the cheek. It wasn't the location of the kiss that mattered, it was the situation! Everyone was looking at us, making us the cen
Linda POV"Hey, he's coming."Hazel nudged my arm and that's when I saw Drake coming in a bright red hoodie. Two days ago since I swore at Drake, he hadn't appeared in front of me again. I didn't see him at the ice rink during practice either. I didn't think anything of it, it just felt strange. I was worried he was devising a plan to trap me. And now, he appears again.I reflexively looked to my left, there was an empty seat. He might as well sit there so before he does, I stand up and look for the only seat left and flanked by other people, which is at the back. "Where are you going?" Hazel asked. "I'm so sleepy. If it's up front here I can't sleep. So I'm going to the back to sleep for a while."Before Hazel could say anything more and before Drake could sit next to me, I had already moved. And know what? My guess was right. Drake was sitting next to my chair earlier. What exactly is the meaning of all your actions Drake? Yesterday you pushed me too far but now you're comin
Linda POV"You don't have any more classes after this right? Come with me."What Jude said a week ago is still lodged in my memory. But somehow I still have doubts. I... I still want to find out again if it was really Drake who killed my parents who were trying to protect me that time. I want to prove Drake's connection in this matter and make a decision with a cool head. In addition, I also need to confirm if Drake is the only one left or if there are others. But if that was proven, I would not hesitate to take action. "I'm busy."I held on to the desk as Hazel pulled me along. Today I have another agenda, I want to start my investigation on Drake. I have to meet him again. I need to approach him as long as I can get information that can give me a clear path to the matter. "I saw you daydreaming, so you're not busy. Come on Linda, you should mingle too, make friends. I know you're an introvert but you can't miss this opportunity. Our college is giving away free food in the caf
Linda POV"Don't you want to welcome me, Linda?" I was doing coursework in the library when I smelled pine mixed with bergamot. It was a familiar scent, belonging to someone who shouldn't be here. And he finally made his appearance, sitting in front of me while closing the book I was reading. It seemed like he ignored the warning I gave him a while ago because he was here instead of staying away from me. He grabbed my book and opened it randomly."What are you doing here?""Being a student like you, an art student.""I mean, what did you move in for? To follow me? Jude, you know that-""I know you moved here to find out who was involved in your parents' murder in the past. You got information from someone and he said that the culprit was in this area so you decided to transfer campus so that the disguise would be easier and you could take revenge easily. Am I right?"I reflexively looked around me. If anyone heard what he just said, my cover would be blown."It's none of your busin
6 months laterLinda POV"Hey, you're Linda, right?"I set foot on the stairs of the campus lobby as a group of girls approached me, carrying leaflets. It's my first day at my new college, Willow Da Vinci College. Huft, I know this is probably the stupidest thing I've done since I moved to the place of the hockey captain I kissed six months ago. But it's also a decision I've thought through, including the consequences. I wrinkled my forehead. "Do you still remember me?""Of course! I'm the cheer captain here. You were very famous on social media even a few weeks after the game because of the two backflips you did. I don't know why you moved but would you like to be part of our team? Yeah, although it might sound funny that you joined the opposing team."That's not the problem. The problem was that if I joined cheers again, then I would definitely run into Drake and I couldn't imagine it. "We saw how you did that backflip that time and it was amazing! Right guys?"They all replied
