It was a thirty minute drive, from her mom's house to the Anderson Company.  She made it just in time and have five minutes to freshen up.

The building has this serious feel – nakakakaba at parang gusto na niyang umuwi. The main hall was brightly lit and everything looks so fragile. It was so quiet, that if a pin would drop on the floor, maririnig mo ang pagbagsak nito. Mas kinabahan pa siya nang mapansin niya na halos parehas ang suot ng mga tao dito. Feeling niya tuloy, out of place siya sa suot na little red dress and stilettos.

"Are you Anna Miller?" said a woman in black overalls, sexy and chic.

"Yes, ako nga 'yun." Pinilit niya na maging professional ang sagot.

"Nice to meet you," she offered her hand to a handshake and Anna did the same. "Sunod ka na lang sa akin. Mr. Anderson is waiting for you in his office."

Habang naglalakad sila, she was amazed by how simple yet elegant the decorations are. Every lamp, every painting gives a different statement. Medyo naaaliw na siya, pero bigla niyang naalala na hindi siya nagpunta doon para mag-enjoy. She's there to find out "WHO SENT HER RESUME".

Hay. Bahala na nga."

At the end of the barely lit hall, there was a glass door, flat and shiny. She's guessing that it was one of those one-way mirror doors, you can see who's outside but you can't see who's inside. She walked towards the door, staring at her reflection. Her little red dress seems to stand out. She's the only one with real colors on. (Black and white are not real colors. They just represent light and dark/shadow.)

"Wow! Automatic door," She whispered.

"Hi. You must be Anna Miller?" said the gorgeous man behind the table.

He does not look like a CEO of the company. Mas mukha pa siyang manginginom, yung tipong sa beerhouse na tumitira pero masyado siyang malinis para sa ganon. Siguro sa gentleman's club na lang.

"That's me," she said in a little voice, sounding a little bit sarcastic.

"And you are?" I gave him a quizzical look.

"Well, I'm going to be your boss if you'll accept my offer." he chuckled a little.

I smiled back and said nothing.

"So, you didn't send the application?" He asked

"No. I did not. Can I see them?"

He took out one drawer and slid it across his table, as in yung isang buong drawer. "You might want to take a sit."

"Oh my gosh. This will take forever." There's a pile of application letters and resumes. Maybe hundreds of them.

"And when you're done with this drawer, have fun looking through those boxes." Tumayo siya mula sa swivel chair at kinuha ang dalawang box.

"Are those?" trying to stop myself from laughing.

"Yes. These too."

"I thought you really need this job. So I fired my five year assistant/secretariat to let you in the job. And then I found out na hindi ikaw ang nagpadala ng libo-libong kopya ng application letter at resume." he sounded a little pissed off.

"I'm sorry for all your troubles sir." I said laughing.

"So? Are you going to accept the job or am I going to demand you to talk to my ex-assistant/secretariat and make her come back?" he sounded sarcastic but looked serious.

"How much salary are we talking about here anyway?" Biro ko sa kanya.

"That depends if you're married or single." he answered.

"Mukhang mapapalaban ako sa lalakeng 'to." Sabi ko sa sarili ko.

"I'm single. And it has been three years now."Seryosong sagot ko sa kanya.

"Good. I hate working with married women."  he declared. "They always end up in my bathroom." He gave me a naughty smile.

"Really? Maybe I'll end up in bed with you. " I started to flirt with him, yun din naman ang gusto niya.

"Whoah! Feisty!" he shouted and I panicked. "Don't worry no one can hear us. The walls are sound proof. You can scream and curse all you want and no one will ever know." he lauhed devilishly.

"So I can kill you right now and no one will know? I can walk away like nothing happened? And your blood on my dress will be like an intricate design."I said with a poker face.

"I like you Miss Anna Miller." he sat back in his big swivel chair.

Mas gumanda pa ang ngiti niya, parang na-impress pa siya sa mga sinasabi ko sa kanya.

"I'm offering you the best job here in the company. Well, except my job is better than the best." he boasted. "You'll be given thirty thousand dollars a month, for salary, no deductions. All insurance is paid by the company. A company phone, all expenses paid by the company. A company car with or without a driver, maintenance will be paid by the company. And if you want to move to a closer home, I will take you there personally."

"Whoah! Am I in a realty show? Is this those shows where you prank someone and make them believe that they are being offered with this kind of shit?!" I asked sarcastically.

"No. This is real Miss Anna Miller, but only if you accept the job." he explained. "Naipagawa ko na ang kontrata mo. The only thing missing is you, I mean your signature." He smiled, parang bata na nahihiya sa mga nasabi.

I took the envelope and started reading. "Are you really, really sure that this is real?"

"Yes." he nodded. "I understand that this is all surreal for you but this is the real deal. You can take your contract home. Read it. I'm giving you until tomorrow afternoon to decide."

I stood up and thanked him.

"Will I accept it or just decline?"

Mom calling…

"Hello?" I answered.

"Anna, asan ka na? Nakauwi ka na?

"Not yet mom. I'm just on my way."

"I have lots of left-over chicken pastel, pita bread, lettuce and tomatoes. And I don't know what to do with them. Can you help me think of something Anna?"

"I am on my way. Wait for me. I love you."

"I love you too Anna. Bye." As mom hung up, I took a turn and drove my way to mom's house.

  • Stand Still: Please Stay   Epilogue

Dianne married Lance Anderson for two years. It would have been three, but they chose to wait a year because Lance didn’t have a best man. Lance didn’t want any other best man. He only wanted his brother, Gabriel. Dianne gave birth to a lovely daughter, who is three years old. It turned out she was pregnant before Anna went away.Dianne named her daughter Annie as a tribute to Anna, her best friend. Annie is just like Anna. In her early years, she’s been brave and carefree. She doesn’t like the smell of her mother’s tea but she’s addicted to the smell of her dad’s coffee. Surprisingly, Annie also likes cheese and grapes. She reminds Dianne so much of Anna.Dianne was five months away from her second baby with Lance. I’m thinking of naming him after Gabriel but she wasn’t sure if Lance would allow it.Gabriel thought he couldn’t make it without Anna, but turns out he could. He realized more people are willing to stay beside him, even in his darkest times. It’s a good thing he has Lance

“What are you doing?” Anna asked Joshua, who was following her.“I just want to talk to you.”“I don’t want to talk to anyone. Especially not you.”“Why? Are you that angry?”“You’re making me crazy. I don’t want that.”“I just want to explain.”Anna stopped and faced him. Her face was turning red from anger.“Explain? After all, that’s happened? How dare you? Do you think your explanation would change what’s already happened? After how I’ve felt, do you think I would believe you?”“I just want you to know why I left. You deserve to know.”“Well, you should have thought of that before you went AWOL. And what’s the point of that? Are you here to make me feel bad or do you just want me to forgive you?”Joshua did not react. Anna could see tears welling up and when a tear fell, he looked down as to not let Anna know how he was losing his faith.“If it makes a difference, I forgave you the moment you left.”“Then us alone – Alexandra and me.”Anna did not hold back when he slapped him. “What do you think? Come out and let me have a look at it,” Dianne shouted and tried to wait, but in the end, she barged into the fitting room. Anna was startled but did not mind the company. “I like how it fits me,” she said while removing the creases. Dianne looked at her with teary eyes. “Look in the mirror,” she pulled Anna. “It looks good on you,” she added while Anna continued with what she was doing. Anna was in awe when she saw what gown she was wearing. “Dianne, this isn’t a bride’s maid dress,” she looked at Dianne. “I am not the bride. This is a wedding dress.” “I just wanted to see you wear a wedding dress. I might not be able to see you wear one soon, and that’s why.” “Dianne!” Anna protested along with another familiar voice outside the cubicle. Dianne quickly responded. “Honeyboo!” Dianne left me and run to greet Lance. Even at the distance, Anna could make out the silhouette of the man Lance was with. Anna wanted to walk away, but her feet seemed to have a life o

“Are you okay? What’s on your mind?” Dianne asked when she saw Anna staring blankly at her cup of coffee.“Nothing,” she answered.“Nothing? Daydreaming is one thing, but smiling while daydreaming is another,” Dianne pointed out.“Yes, this is nothing,” she denied and went up to get an apple from the fruit basket on the table.“Fine,” Dianne admitted her defeat.*** “It looks like your prince charming misses you,” Dianne pointed at Anna's cell phone. It was ringing to Gabriel's call.“Shut up!” Anna said mockingly while grabbing and answering the call.***“Hello?” Anna answered the call shyly.“Hi,” an unfamiliar woman’s voice came from the other line.Anna pulled the phone away from her ears and looked at the screen. She made sure it was Gabriel's number.“Hello?” she said again, hoping to hear Gabriel's voice.“Anna? Anna Miller?” asked the woman on the other line.“Yes. This is she.”“Gabriel asked me to tell you that you are fired. He said you don’t have to bother going to the o

“Shall we find another bar or shall we crash at my place?” Lance asked.“I think we should go to your place. So, Anna won’t complain of any smell,” Gabriel suggested, thinking he was funny.“You think you're funny, right?” Anna said, still feeling feisty after the scene in the bar. “Continue that and you'll regret having met me.”“But, of course, I’m just kidding,” he hugged Anna from behind and she wasn’t sure if Gabriel's turned on or he was hot from alcohol. She could feel his warmth amidst the cold air.Their laughs echoed in the almost empty parking area. This night, they are just normal people having fun. Who would think they are a CEO, a sibling of a CEO, a multi-billionaire businesswoman, and a friend of a multi-billionaire businesswoman? Who would think they are all connected while should usually be fighting over power and other company issues? No one!***Anna was impressed when they arrived at Lance’s condo unit. It looked stunning in its black and white interiors and furni

“Congratulations, Dianne!” Anna hugged her. “I’m excited for you!”Anna looked at Gabriel who was smiling from ear to ear and also looking at her.“Good job, Dude! I’m happy for you,” he said, averting his eyes from Anna.“Kuya, I’ll be first this time.”“Don’t worry, Kid. I’m not too far behind,” he smiled and looked at Anna.Don Miguel cleared his throat to get everyone’s attention. “Let’s enjoy the night people. Hit it, DJ!”***Anna and Gabriel went out. The party’s getting a bit noisy for them. Old people went home to rest, leaving the party to younger people. The speakers blasted electric music, almost blowing them out“I envy them,” Gabriel said.“Why do you envy them? Once upon a time, you’ve also been married.”“So, you’re the one who should envy them.”“Me? Why me? I’m perfectly fine. That’s why I’m still single. Why should I envy them?”“What?”She knew he'd react.“You heard me right, Mister Gabriel Anderson. Besides, I don’t have anyone courting me, so, I don’t have any b
