Chapter 70

"Bring them out." My voice rose above the wind. Though the sun blazed overhead, the weather itself felt strangely unsettling.

Clawface blinked at me, his steps hesitant until he was certain I meant the order. Then he and a few of the men departed to carry it out.

The uproar had become such a disturbance that I had dismissed the Council from the hall. My seat was positioned atop the porch, granting me higher ground over the rest of my subjects.

Not long after, Clawface and his men ret

Chapter 77Four days later. This morning, I fainted. The morning had started well. Kai and I were revisiting our plans for the night, and then the darkness came, Kai's voice growing distant even as he called my name repeatedly. Now, I woke up to a bright light that made me shut my eyes the moment they opened. My groan was met with distant hushed voices.Scanning the room, it was clear I was back in the royal infirmary. My body felt stiff against the sickbed, likely a response to whatever injection they had given me while I was unconscious. The voices came again, and I listened in. Even if I was not in the clearest headspace, I would recognize Kai's and Marcellan's voices anywhere."Have Clawface draft a different plan. He has the blueprint of the space. I'm not risking Alex's life again," Kai stated.Marcellan let out a disapproving grunt, but he did not argue. Kai sounded tense... and angry. Though I could not see him with the curtain still serving as an obstruction, I could picture

Chapter 76It was quite nice to have some silence after all, and even more welcoming to have Kai start the conversation. It was obvious everyone wished to forget the matter."My investigation into the stolen armories led me to another neighboring Pack, apparently. I'll send the reports to you, Clawface." Kai's eyes shifted to Clawface just then.He gave a light nod, more an acknowledgment than a bow, and it was beautiful for me to watch. I had never thought a time like this would come when Clawface would simply be a normal person and not the soldier he had been trained to be all his life. And speaking of training, he and I still had plenty of that to do once I resumed being Luna at the castle."The armories lead to Leo. I believe that is not our greatest threat. The other madman...""Nathan?" I suggested.Marcellan nodded, snapping his fingers in my direction."Yes, that mad rogue. He seems to me like the ultimate threat," he said.Clawface placed a finger against his jaw. He seemed l

Chapter 75Kai's POVI lurched out of the way as the next arrow pierced the ground and charged toward the shadows, but Frederick dragged me back. War cries filled the air, the arena now transformed into a full fledged war zone as our men tore into one another. Crimson spurted like water forced through a hose, pouring across the battlefield until the earth changed from its natural brown to something grim and blood-soaked.Frederick and I were caught between man and wolf. My skin was covered in silver-cerulean fur, while Frederick's was black, darker than midnight. My calves curved monstrously beneath me, my chest broadened, and my face deformed into something less human.Half-man. Half-wolf.Then, in the middle of the chaos, a blinding light erupted. First came the crashing sound of a building collapsing to its foundations, followed by an ear-piercing shriek as the light shot toward the heavens. It flickered like a distant star before vanishing beyond the dome. The fight continued. I l

Chapter 74My arrival in MoonBlade was met with restraint. Guards were stationed at every crook and crevice of the Pack's outposts, watching and obstructing whatever entered or left their territory. Four vehicles followed behind Clawface and me, while I occupied the passenger seat. The moment my boots touched the ground, my wolf's consciousness rose beneath my skin, eager to tear apart anyone who dared resist us."Lead me to your Alpha," I said to one of the guards.Their weapons were gripped firmly in their hands, their eyes fixed unwaveringly upon my face. My men stood at my back, waiting for a single command. My mind remained linked to every one of them, and all it would take was a word for this place to descend into bloodshed.Sadly, it would, if my sweet peach or Marcellan had been harmed in any way."I said... get me your Alpha," I growled. The ground rumbled beneath the effect of the beast stirring within me.In an instant, I seized one of the guards by the collar. His spear sn

Chapter 73I cracked a dry laugh. Dad had given me the answer all this time."You kept chasing me when you ought to attract me," it said in my exact voice."The One Tree all this time had been me?""You are me, and I am you. Remember when we first met? I said these words to you," it reminded me. In another situation, I would have been smacking myself on the forehead."Why torment me then? For if I die, you would too. We both share the same pain, yet still inflict it on ourselves?""I am still not getting it. I am not us. You and I are one being," it corrected. The lava was much closer now. "Then stop this madness," I rasped, breathless at this point. There was nothing left to inhale. My eyes might as well have bled from how scorched they felt.I lunged forward with the last ounce of strength in me and grabbed the One Tree's pants. My pants.Peace was once again threatened. Fear had returned to the land. It was time for a dark change. It could be felt in the air.In this moment, the Ae

  • Stealing My Best Friend's Alpha   Chapter 72

Chapter 72The feeling of paradise was alive, but the view was dead. The ground was so dried that it had cracked and spread into the distance. I did not remember it being this… lonely."Something's changed, One Tree," I said as I walked up to its roots. Before, it had been soaked deep into wet earth where grasses bloomed and nature glowed in all shades of exquisite colour. However, it was a ghastly opposite now."What have you come for, Alex?"I shifted my gaze back to the tall tree. Its whispers settled behind my earlobe, and the familiarity of its voice so near nudged me into answering sharply."I need answers. I want to understand this power, and by connecting with you, I can connect with my heritage… my lineage," I said, then quickly added, "The last time you channeled through me, I felt everything. I felt whole, and not lost, for the first time in my life."A moment of silence slithered in. The whirling wind was the only sound in the space. Then the One Tree spoke again."Do you
