LOGINAMARIS POV
“Are you okay?” Zevian’s voices echoed from the stairs above, jolting me. Quickly, I cleaned the sly tear that had found its way to my cheek before looking up at him. “Yeah, I’m fine,” I said, clearing my throat as I walked up the stairs toward him. I was about to pass by him so I could go to my room when his hands held mine. “You don’t have to pretend you’re fine if you’re not,” he said. His words broke through every restraint I had as I let the tears spill. The frustration of being in a cage. The frustration of not living my life like a normal being. The frustration of nearly losing my life today, and most of all, the frustration of my own mother wishing me dead. I let them all out. Zevian grabbed the back of my head, pressing it against his firm chest as he softly cooed. The softness and warmth of his embrace felt strange but comforting, and I felt the need to inch closer into it. After spending what felt like an eternity in his arms, Zevian's voice sounded again beside my ear. “Why don’t you get some rest? You’ll be fine when morning comes.” “Okay,” I said with a sniff as I removed my head from his chest, saddened by the loss of contact. “Good night. Amaris,” Zevian said while I nodded before making my way to my room. After changing, I immediately went to bed, but even sleep couldn’t take away the sadness. It was just one painful reliving after the other until the sun shone brightly in the sky. As per my usual routine, I took my shower before going downstairs for breakfast. Since there wasn’t any outing scheduled today for Zevian, which I knew because I didn’t wake up to a random party dress hanging in my room. So I knew today was going to be one of those boring days. But I’d pick boring over those any day. When I got to the dining table, Zevian was already there. Unlike his usual suit and tie, he was wearing a black joggers and a black T-shirt whose middle portion was left unbuttoned, revealing the gold necklace and a large portion of his bare chest and abs. “Good morning,” I slurred, trying to get my eyes off him. Did he grow hotter in less than twelve hours? “Good morning,” he replied, raking his eyes over my body. “This would do,” he muttered after a while. “What?” I asked in confusion. “Nothing. Eat,” he said. I began eating, constantly looking at him while he observed me like a hawk. Then, immediately after I was done, Zevian got up. “Let’s go.” “Where?” I asked, still not getting up from the chair. “You’ll find out when we get there,” he said, turning around toward me, his eyebrow raised when he saw that I was still sitting down. “I don’t feel like attending anything,” I unconsciously pouted while holding the table tightly. “Oh well, too bad. You’ve been walking like a century-old wolf, and I thought maybe going to see a masseuse would do you some good…. Since you don’t want to—“ “When did I say that?” I jumped before he could complete his statement. Then I walked ahead, looking back at him,m. “What are you waiting for? “ Zevian shook his head, hiding what seemed to be a half-smile as he started walking. This time, unlike the former events that usually required that he and I sit at the back while his chauffeur drove, Zevian sat in the driver's seat, driving like a madman while I clung tightly onto my seat belt. Not even daring to make a sound, lest my life pass me by. When he parked, I quickly jumped out of the car, taking deep breaths to reassure myself that I was still alive. Once I regained myself, I glared at Zevian. “Now I see why your drivers always seem terrified whenever you go out without them,” I hissed. Zevian shrugged without answering. Then he opened the building’s door, and we both walked inside. “Who tries to be gentlemanly with the door after nearly running into fifteen trucks two minutes ago?” I mumbled underneath my breath. The moment we stepped in, all the workers seemed to stop whatever they were doing as they bowed, greeting Zevian. Then, a man with a shining hairless head ran to meet him. “Alpha Zevian,” he greeted. “Prepare my private parlour,” Zevian ordered while the man wasted no time. “Private parlour? How often do you come here?” I asked curiously. “Not once,” he said before a lady approached my side. “May I escort you to the changing room?” She said in a sweet voice. “Hmm,” I answered, glancing at Zevian briefly, once he nodded, then did I follow her lead. Somehow, I didn’t feel like being more than five feet away from him when we were outside. The lady showed me to a changing room inside what I assumed was the private room due to its largeness, fancy interior, and the fact that no one was there except a bed stationed at the center of the room. After wrapping the towel around my body, I walked out of the changing room to find the lady standing outside the door. “Please lie down. The masseur will be with you shortly,” she said, smiled and left. “Okay,” I said squeamishly in anticipation. I’d never had a massage before. The closest I’d gotten was my father’s rusty massage chair that I had once sneaked into the basement to use, which almost led to me getting beaten after being caught. I strolled to the bed, carefully laying down on it and tucking my face into the head hole. A few moments later, the door opened as footsteps echoed. “Good morning,” I greeted, but no response came. Just the sound of someone popping open the oil bottle, followed by the soothing feeling of oil being emptied onto my back. “Hmm.” I adjusted to the feeling when a pair of large hands pressed on the tender parts of my bare back, releasing the old knots that had formed. Slowly the hands moved, touching all the right spots, eliciting a sound from me that I quickly bit my lips to suppress, hoping the masseur didn’t catch it. But fate, as usual, had other plans in store for me, as a deep husky voice echoed in the empty room. “I must be extremely good for you to be moaning when I haven’t even started with you.” “Should I take that as a compliment?” He added.AMARIS POV“What!” I shrieked, realizing the word had slipped out of my mouth. I quickly covered my mouth with my hand, vividly aware of the heat that had now rested on my cheeks. “I must be going crazy.” “I haven’t even said the punishment and you’re already squealing,” Zevian tsked. “You’ll find out only when you break my rules.”“That’s not fair,” I mumbled, biting my lip, but no sound came from Zevian until his hands suddenly rested on mine, holding them together above my head. Afterward, something that felt like a rope wrapped around my wrists. Too scared to ask any question—lest the dubious Zevian use this as a chance to claim I broke a rule—I kept my mouth shut. When he was done, he let go of my hands after securing them to the upper side of the bed, which restricted me from bringing them down or moving them at all. Then I felt a warm and soothing liquid pour on my injured palm, followed by a warm and careful caress around the area. This action alone calmed my heart, whic

AMARIS POV “What have I said about my properties?” The voice came in clear, calm, but harsh, piercing through the partially deafening silence. I struggled. I struggled to open my eyes just to confirm I wasn’t dead yet. That I wasn’t hallucinating his presence. Zevian was indeed here. Standing tall, his gaze fixated on Giaus, who was now lying limp on the ground with a pool of blood surrounding him. Zevian was about to take a step closer to him, but the supposedly limp Giaus dragged himself away, desperate to get as far away from Zevian as possible. “Forbidden… Forbidden,” Giaus stammered before coughing up blood. And all I could think of was, what manner of strength did Zevian possess to render a man barely alive with one hit? “Yet you disobeyed.” Zevian muttered, grabbing Giaus by the collar. “But… but you don’t love her? I was told you hated her. I just wanted to punish her for you,” Giaus ranted while being lifted off the ground by Zevian. “Yes, I hate her… but that
AMARIS POV One year later. The sound of wine glasses clicking against each other filled the room as guests smiled at one another, muttering little pieces of gossip while the men discussed the next best business ideas or the companies they planned on boycotting in the new year to come. It was New Year’s Eve. A year since I was said to have paralyzed my twin. A year since I became her replacement. Not the worst thing that could happen, though. But certainly not the best, having to be around the one person I couldn’t have. Zevian was an Alpha, and an Alpha needed a Luna, hence they were considered weak or unfit without one. And Zevian, seeming not to want to disclose Amoria’s state to the world, protected her while I became the stepping stone. To the world, I was Amoria Dormount. Zevian Frost’s wife. But inside the Frost mansion… I was just his real wife, recuperating life support. “I still can't get over how pretty your wife is,” one of the older-looking men said, gazing
ZEVIAN POV I stared at the paper, looking at the picture that was staring back at me. The face of a girl with flushed cheeks and black hair scattered over her face like she had run her hand through it an alarming number of times. Her luscious pink lips were narrowed into a pout. But that wasn’t what had caught my attention, leaving me stunned for hours. The eyes… Her eyes were the shade of a moss hidden in shadow. The green jewel coneflower. A color that only one twin had—Amaris. I stared at the file again, the one I had ordered Lucas to bring for me. When I felt something wasn’t adding up. And slowly, the realization that Amaris was the one who I had met at the club that night sank in. I stood up from the chair, unable to control the range of emotions flowing through me. Something was wrong. I definitely felt the mate bond that night. That was why I did everything I could to track down the woman I had shared the best night of my life with. And I finally found her… or
