Chapter 1

Author: Brown Sugar Pop
A crushing headache slammed into me as I jerked awake, gasping for air. My pajamas were soaked through with cold sweat.

I…came back to life?

I shot upright, my heart pounding wildly as I scanned the room. Then, my gaze locked onto something on the nightstand.

A pink, limited edition teddy bear.

Cecilia Johnson had given it to me for my birthday the previous year.

It had been insanely popular. People could not get their hands on it, no matter how hard they tried. Cecilia told me she pulled a lot of strings to get one just for me. I was so touched I almost cried.

Only after I died in my previous life did I learn the truth.

That teddy bear was never a gift. It was a vessel. A container for a curse that had been draining my luck away, little by little.

My hands started shaking before I could stop them. I carefully tore open the soft, cute plush.

Beneath layers of stuffing, my fingers brushed against something thin.

A piece of paper, folded into a strange triangle.

I held my breath and slowly unfolded it.

Dark red ink covered the page in symbols. At the center, unmistakable, was my full name, written in a way that made my skin crawl. I took a deep breath and forced myself to stay calm, then carefully put the paper away.

I did not destroy it right away. Some curses did not break just because they were torn up. I needed someone who knew what they were doing.

More importantly, I needed to figure out exactly what that thing was.

I started digging through obscure forums and encrypted online communities. After hours of searching, I finally got in touch with someone. A retired occult practitioner with a reputation in certain circles.

He stared at the triangular paper for a long time. His frown deepened, his expression turning serious.

"This isn't something ordinary," he said. "It's a binding curse. A very vicious one.

"It's usually used on people who are close to death. It can't transfer your luck directly to the caster, but it reroutes your fortune to others. By granting other people's wishes, it extends the caster's life.

"When your luck is completely drained, and your life reaches its end, the life force that should have been yours…gets transferred to them."

He paused, then looked at me.

"If you want, I can alter its structure. Break the connection. I can even make it backfire on the person who cast it."

So that was how it was…

No wonder she became some so-called 'lucky streamer.'

She was not lucky. She was burning through my luck, stealing my life.

"How much?" I asked without hesitation.

"I don't charge," he replied, calm and firm. "Stopping things like this is a good enough reason."

I froze for a second, then immediately handed him the paper.

With just a few quick strokes, he made subtle changes at key points.

The moment he lifted his pen, something shifted.

My whole body suddenly felt lighter, like a weight that had been pressing down on me forever had finally been lifted.

Before I left, he gave me one last warning.

"On the night of the full moon, seven days from now, the connection will be completely severed. Until then, she can still draw a small amount of your luck, but it won't cause you any real harm."

I thanked him and walked out.

The moment I stepped outside, even the air felt clearer. The sunlight was almost blinding.

'Cecilia… Your payback is coming. Soon,' I thought.

Cecilia's whole body started trembling violently. She pointed at me, her lips shaking, but not a single word came out.The color drained from her face, leaving it as pale as a corpse. Then, suddenly, a furious roar exploded from the side of the audience."It's her! It's that vicious woman!"Everyone turned toward the voice.Tyson pushed his way through the crowd, leaning on crutches, limping forward. The cast on his leg stood out painfully. His face was twisted with rage, his eyes burning with hatred. He lifted one crutch and pointed it straight at Cecilia, who had collapsed on stage, and shouted with everything he had."She's a liar! A monster! She let me find 30,000 dollars, then had people break my legs! She even stuck me with 75,000 dollars in debt! Cecilia, give me my legs back!"His accusation hit the crowd like a spark in oil.The whole place ignited."Oh, my god! So, that's how Tyson's legs got broken?""I knew something wasn't right!"Before the shock could settle

"Is she insane? Securing 1.5 million dollars? Does she think money just falls from the sky?""This is hype. Total hype. The air buzzed with excitement and restless energy.Countless phones and cameras pointed straight at the center of the stage.Cecilia stood there, glowing under the lights. She wore an expensive custom gown, her makeup flawless, her smile perfectly in place.Only I knew what was hiding beneath that elegance: a heart shaking with fear.James was invited up onto the stage. He wore a faded T-shirt, his expression a mix of nerves and hope, like he was about to witness a miracle.Cecilia's voice echoed through the auditorium, saying, "Good evening, everyone. Students, teachers.

At the same time, Cecilia sat at home, anxiously waiting for the bidding results.Suddenly, her heart started pounding violently. Then, the room began to spin. She grabbed onto the sofa, barely managing to stay on her feet. Clutching her chest, her face turned pale as a wave of overwhelming fear swallowed her whole. Her phone rang sharply on the table. It was the project manager.Cecilia's father picked up immediately, his face already stretched into a flattering smile."Mr. Walker, hello! Hello! Are the bidding results out yet?"From the other end came an icy, impatient voice."Mr. Johnson, what is wrong with your company? How could you make such a basic mistake on something this important?"The smile froze on her father's face. "Mr. Walker, what…what do you mean?""What do I mean?" The man's voice turned sharp. "Your bid has the decimal point in the wrong place. This was supposed to be a 15 million project, and you submitted 1.5 million. Do you think we wouldn't notice?"

I was reading when she burst in. I looked up, putting on an innocent expression."What are you talking about? I don't understand a word you're saying."Cecilia, are you under too much stress? Just because people have bad luck doesn't mean you can blame me."Didn't you say it yourself? My horoscope's in retrograde this year, so I'm just unlucky."I threw her own words right back at her.Her face shifted between pale and flushed. She was trembling with anger, but she could not say a single thing to argue.Of course, she could not. What was she supposed to say?Admit that she had been stealing my luck all along? She forced an awkward smile. "Sorry, Nevaeh. I…I've just been really stressed lately. I acted without thinking…"Before she could finish, her eyes widened, and she started coughing violently."It's okay, Cecilia. Are you not feeling well? You should get some rest," I said gently, patting her on the back. That night, I pretended to be asleep.Cecilia crept over to my be
