Chapter 7 - Married Her For His Inheritance

Witnessing how her parents were killed, she grew up fearful and easily intimidated. Jade hugged her knees, regretting that she angered him. Her eyes burned with unshed tears turning her rims red.

"I'm giving you an hour to do what you have to do," he ordered.

Jade darted to her room not wasting a second. Her hands were shaking as she typed on her laptop.

The woman's trembling figure somewhat pricked Tyler's conscience that he relented on lashing her verbally.

Thirty minutes after Jade left him alone in the living room, Tyler's phone rang. He accepted the call, stood up and went to the floor to ceiling window overlooking the beautiful mountain scenery.

"Hi," Tyler whispered.

"Tyler, I heard you got married," Sophia cried at the end of the line.

A crease formed between his brows as he knitted his eyebrows. "It's just on paper. I did it to have my inheritance."

"Tyler, you said we are getting married after my contract here," Tyler could hear her voice like she was hyperventilating.

"Calm down, Sophia. I'm going to divorce her after a year and we're getting married when you return," Tyler said to placate her.

"Tyler, never fall in love with her. I'm going to kill myself," Sophia said gravely.

Tyler's face darkened and breathed in sharply. "Sophia, she's not my cup of tea. Rest assured we will get married when you get back. Take care of yourself and don't get sick. I have to hang up now," he didn't give her a chance to speak and hang up.

Tyler was surprised to see Jade standing not far from him, but his face didn't not show it.

Feeling so embarrassed to hear what Tyler had said over the phone made her complexion significantly pale a few shades.

She lowered her head, avoiding Tyler's probing eyes. "I'm done."

She stretched her hand, giving him a file of the information she collected.

Tyler looked at it with a cold gaze. And then his gaze shifted back at Jade, her head still lowered.

"Let's go," he barked, making Jade jerk her head to look at him.

Her eyes were red rimmed. Tyler deduced that she cried while doing her mission and he got infuriated. He turned around and strode towards the door not waiting for her.

Jade ran towards her room and picked up her luggage. She was in such a hurry that she stumbled while pulling her luggage.

She got up from the floor and limping, she went out of her apartment, to chase after Tyler.

She didn't care about the pain because she didn't want to anger him again.

Despite being in pain, Jade strived to walk faster when she saw Tyler waiting impatiently in front of the elevator.

Tyler frowned as he looked at the woman hurriedly walking towards him with a limp while pulling her luggage.

"I'm sorry to make you wait," Jade said when she was close by, panting while she spoke.

Tyler made no response and pressed the elevator button. They waited for the elevator in an uncomfortable silence.

Jade sighed as the elevator opened and quietly followed Tyler.

She occupied the other end of the elevator while Tyler was at the other end as if they weren't husband and wife.

From time to time, Jade gave the man a side glance. She didn't dare to openly look at him as he was emanating a glacial aura.

The elevator ride from her floor to the ground floor seems like eternity for Jade because of the stifling aura coming from Tyler. She felt extremely relieved when the elevator opened as they reached the ground floor.

Tyler got out of the elevator, never once he looked back at Jade and just strode off to his car.

Beads of sweat broke out on Jade's forehead as she tried to catch up with him while she bore the throbbing pain on her ankle.

He got into the car, sat in the driver seat while Jade put her luggage in the rear passenger seat. He didn't even take an initiative to help Jade despite the fact that she was limping and just watched her struggle.

When Jade had buckled up, Tyler stepped on the gas and zoomed off.

Jade shut her eyes tightly.

'Am I going to die early? I married him so I could be under his protection while getting revenge for my parents but it seemed like I made the wrong decision. I will die in this man's hand instead.'

The entire trip to the mansion Jade had her eyes closed and didn't know when she drifted to sleep.

Tyler got out of the car, this time he opened the door for her as there were eyes watching them.

He waited for Jade to come out but she wasn't moving. He bent down, Jade's head was hung low, fast asleep.

He unfastened her seatbelt and picked her in his arms. Carrying her in his arms, bridal style, something vague flickered in his eyes as he looked at her exquisite face.

Jade woke up startled as Tyler threw her on the bed.

"Ouch!" She screamed as pain shot in her ankle.
