Fiora froze.

She couldn't move as each of her hands was firmly held by a different man.

What was she supposed to do now?

"Let her go, Riven. I'm serious." Darius spoke again, his strange crimson eyes blazing like living flames.

"And if I don't?" Riven challenged with a mocking smile.

"How childish. Just because you saw Fiora first, you think you have the right to be the first Seed Donor?"

Darius let out a cold snort. "Typical. You're always like this, aren't you? Always trying to take away everything I like."

His voice dropped into a warning. "I'm telling you one last time. Let go of Fiora... or I'll beat you senseless."

A soft laugh escaped Riven's lips. "You really think you'd win?" he asked, his smile never fading, though a dangerous gleam flashed across his blue eyes.

"I'm much stronger than you, Darius."

A crooked grin spread across Darius' face. "We'll see who's still standing in the end."

Elyon, who had already returned to his book, quietly closed it once more, apparently deciding that watching Darius and Riven argue was far more interesting.

Meanwhile, Vael rubbed his temples with a weary sigh. "You two are always fighting."

His calm voice echoed through the room. "Can't we settle this peacefully? There won't be any fighting here... not while I'm in charge."

His heterochromatic eyes moved from Darius to Riven.

Strangely enough... Both men restrained themselves almost immediately.

So Vael really was the leader here.

Fiora had already noticed how the others respected him, but this confirmed it.

"I've got an idea." Riven suddenly smiled again, the gloomy aura surrounding him vanishing as though it had never existed.

"To keep things fair, why don't we let Fiora choose which man she wants as her first Seed Donor?"

The moment four pairs of eyes turned toward her, Fiora swallowed nervously.

"I... um..." She grimaced helplessly. Her mind had gone completely blank.

At this point, she felt like she might faint from sheer nervousness.

Her eyes drifted toward Riven.

With his golden hair, dazzling smile, and princely face, he looked like someone straight out of a fairy tale.

Then she looked at Darius.

Wild and aggressive like an untamed beast, yet just as handsome.

Even those crimson eyes, which had seemed unsettling at first, now looked strangely unique.

Two men... As different as day and night.

Riven, bright, charming, and playful.

Darius, dark, intense, and overwhelming.

Who should she choose?

Without realizing it, her gaze shifted...

...to Vael.

The silver-haired man was already looking back at her in silence.

His eyes reminded her of what he had said on the beach only moments ago.

"Ahem." Darius' impatient voice snapped her back to reality.

"So? Who are you choosing? Me... or that arrogant blond?"

Fiora blinked. "Umm..."

After a brief hesitation, she took a deep breath. "I'll leave the decision to Vael."

Vael raised an eyebrow in surprise. Why was he the one being asked to decide?

"Very well." His expression remained calm. "If Fiora entrusts the choice to me..."

He glanced at Darius before making his decision. "I choose... Darius."

A triumphant laugh burst from Darius.

Without wasting another second, he swept Fiora up onto his shoulder--just as he had done when she first arrived on the island—and headed toward the stairs.

"Wait, Darius." Vael's calm but commanding voice stopped him instantly.

"Fiora just arrived, at least let her rest first. You can do your part after dinner tonight."

Darius immediately frowned. "After dinner?" he complained. "That's too long."

Vael didn't respond. He simply stared at Darius with those striking mismatched eyes.

After several tense seconds, Darius clicked his tongue in annoyance.

Reluctantly, he lowered Fiora back onto her feet.

Just as she steadied herself, she felt Darius gently pinch her waist. Then his warm breath brushed against her ear.

"Tonight..." His voice was low and possessive.

"I'll make you scream, Fiora." A satisfied smile tugged at his lips.

"You're mine."

With Fiora’s promise given, Vael finally turned toward the door. Before stepping out, he looked back at her once more—just to be certain she was truly there, safe. Satisfied, he left, the door closing softly behind him. Moments later, the sound of his footsteps faded down the corridor. It was barely three in the morning. The sky above the island was swallowed entirely by darkness. Heavy clouds hung low over the horizon, the sea wind cutting cold and sharp, while the alarm wailed on, unceasing.Vael stepped out of the mansion alone. No guards, no troops, no weapon in his hand. Yet his expression remained so calm it was almost unsettling. His mismatched gaze lifted to the sky. And then he saw it—a single small red light blinking far above. Then a second. A third. A fourth. More, and still more.Vael’s eyes narrowed. “Not helicopters…” he murmured, lost to the night wind. Seconds later, their forms grew clearer. Aircraft. Five black planes moving almost silently through the dark—s

The night had worn deep.Silence had returned to the room, lit only by moonlight spilling through the window. Fiora had long since fallen fast asleep. A faint flush still lingered on her cheeks, and her curly red hair spilled in soft disarray across the pillow. Vael had already drawn the blanket back up, tucking it neatly around her.Now he sat beside her on the bed. Motionless. Simply watching her—just as he had done a thousand times before. Gently, carefully, he brushed stray locks of red hair away from her face, as though she were something infinitely precious.“Always like this…” His voice was barely a whisper in the quiet. “You make everything so difficult.”She did not answer, sleeping too deeply, yet he spoke on anyway. For the first time in longer than he could remember, he felt he no longer needed to hide anything. His gaze rested on her face.“I tried to keep my distance. Tried to see you as nothing more than a duty—tried to tell myself none of this mattered.” A faint

The very next moment, Fiora was already drowning in regret.Only moments ago she had felt so bold, so sure of herself—even thinking that confessing her feelings to Vael was the best choice she had ever made. But now… she could not even bring herself to meet his eyes.“Why has your face turned so red?” Vael’s voice came, calm and steady—so steady it only made her burn hotter.“I-I’m not! My face isn’t red at all!” she stammered.Vael shook his head. “It is very red.”“It isn’t.”“And now it has grown even redder.”Fiora glared at him, indignant, while Vael looked more amused than ever. He leaned back comfortably against the headboard, watching her as she fixed her gaze intently on the blanket—as though it were the most fascinating thing in the whole world.“You were so very brave just now.”“Vael.”He lifted one shoulder lightly. “I am only observing.”Fiora buried her face in her hands.Ugh… why was I so bold? Why did I speak before I thought? And worse… why did Vael look as though

“Are you not afraid of me?” Vael’s voice was low, and beneath the quiet words lay something that made Fiora’s chest tighten—something raw and barely held back. She looked up at him, drinking him in, their faces so close she could trace every detail: the silver hair falling a little longer now, his mismatched eyes darkened with longing, and the quiet exhaustion he had always hidden so well. “I may have been afraid once,” she whispered, honest and soft. “But never afraid that you would hurt me.” She lifted her hand, brushing her fingers gently against his cheek. “Because you look like someone fighting so hard… just to keep from hurting me.” Silence settled over the room. Because it was true. Every day since she had returned, Vael had been fighting—not against enemies, but against himself. Fighting to stay near her yet hold back. Fighting the terror of losing her a second time. Fighting the instinct that roared in his blood: she is mine. His hand covered hers, holding it gently

Vael’s hand closed around hers, tighter than usual, and Fiora blinked up at him. “Vael?”“Mm.”“Are you certain nothing is wrong?”His gaze slowly lifted from the horizon and settled back on her. For a long moment, he looked as though he might say something… but in the end, he only shook his head. “Let us go home.”Fiora studied him, then nodded gently. “All right.”They walked the rest of the way back along the forest path as the sun slipped below the treeline, leaving long, golden shadows stretching across the earth.*** Later that evening…Fiora found Vael in the kitchen. He stood before the stove, stirring something in a pot, and a sweet, rich scent filled the air.“What are you making?”He glanced over. “Milk and meat stew.”Fiora looked instantly suspicious. “That sounds… unusual.”“Then do not eat it.”She shook her head firmly. “No. I want to try it.”“Brave of you,” he teased.“Of course I’m brave. You made it.”The words made him pause, his spoon still in the pot. Fiora r

The single word stopped Fiora cold.You.Just one word, yet it felt deeper, truer, than every sweet thing she had ever heard.…Me? she whispered.“Mm.” Vael said it as though it were the most obvious thing in the world—while Fiora’s heart raced so fast it felt ready to burst.“You… you mean that?”“I never jest about things like this.” His mismatched gaze never wavered, and Fiora quickly looked down, her cheeks burning hot.Seeing her so flustered seemed to lighten something in him, easing the tight, careful set of his shoulders.“Very well. I concede. Your question was far too difficult for me.”Fiora lifted her head, laughing softly. “So even someone as strong and brilliant as you can lose? That’s… oddly comforting.”“Are you enjoying seeing me defeated?”“Perhaps a little.”Vael sighed, long and quiet. Then, before she could react, he dipped a finger in the sauce beside his plate and gently brushed it across the tip of her nose.“Now we are even,” he said, looking thoroughly please
