Amanda heard faint noises coming from the living room. The chatters and loud guttural laughs told her that someone had visited. They rarely had visitors as Jude always had a way of coming up with excuses whenever anyone wanted to stop by and it made her wonder even more who the guest was.
She sat up as she had just woken up due to their loud chattering. She stared at the dressing mirror in front of her and noticed how thin and depreciated she had become. Her eye bags popped out and formed even more darker circles. There was an awkward swelling on her cheek bone that reminded her of the day before and the day before that. She sighed.
None of her beauty treatment or facial creams were enough anymore to hide the scars but she kept applying them as she gracefully did that day. They hurriedly took her car to the hospital and inquired about Junior's whereabouts then went up to his ward. Junior was lying still on the spring bed with an intravenous drip connected to the veins on his wrist. Amanda stared at the poor state of his appearance on his navy blue and sky blue uniform and sweat beads all over his pores. She kept rubbing her abdomen and pacing about worriedly until she decided to take a seat. She sat at the end of his bed while Jude took a seat close to the cupboard by the head. The only sound that diluted the air were those from the heart rate monitor and each beep gave off the affirmation that her son was still alive. She started the talk and chose to break the silence by asking if Jude really meant what he had told her earlier.

The residence of the Bellos were filled with cars trooping in and out and filling their driveway. Amanda and Jude had gone together to visit and pay their tributes to Bello who had passed on. The news came as a shock to everyone who had received it as it was unexpected for Bello who had no previous illness, to have just dropped dead at his residence while every other person were at work.Amanda opened the door to an even larger crowd that loomed the living room dressed in black some wailing while others remained silent. She instructed Obi to lock the gate after she had left and told him not to tell anyone who by inference had to be Jude, that she had gone out. She promised to be back before 12pm even though she was not sure how long the treatment of the wound will last. He humbly obliged and rolled the gate after she drove out. She was driving to her only friend's hospital, where she worked with her husband.
