Elsa's POV
In all honesty, I was almost intimidated. The Jarvis I met at Glassdoor empire wasn't the one I knew in the mansion, my close friend.
As I walked into the gigantic doors of the company, my eyes picked on the fanciness of my surroundings, I felt like I was meant to be there. I had casually mentioned to Jarvis about my job search in one of our lengthy conversations and he encouraged I apply in the Davidson company but I wasn't expecting that I was going to get shortlisted in such a top tier company like this.
A stern looking middle aged man walked up to me, he had a staff tag pinned to his chest.
“Are you here for the interview?” He said without sparing me a glance.
I responded and gave him my name, he checked the iPad on his palm and nodded in affirmation. He held out a temporary identity card to me which I placed around my neck. We made for the elevator and he directed me to the third floor where I met with other candidates.
I saw Jarvis walked out of the elevator close to the waiting room and every fiber of my body wished to rush over to him but I had to refrain myself as I watched the staffs shower him with utmost respect. He walked past me and acknowledged my greeting casually just as he had done to other candidates and made for his office.
When it was my turn for the interview, I walked in confidently just as I had practised up to ten times this morning. To my relief, Jarvis and Jethro weren't part of the interview, I settled down and answered all questions confidently.
Just when I was internally rejoicing at the positive look on the interviewer’s faces, the doorknob turned, did I tell you I was relieved that the Davidson twin weren't part of the interview,
Apparently, I was wrong.
Jethro walked in dressed the opposite of himself except his undignified haircut. His tuxedo and gleaming black shoes made his striking resemblance to Jarvis more profound.
“She isn't qualified.”
I bit my lower lip as I heard him proclaim. The interviewers exchanged curious looks while I watched helplessly, torn between defending myself and maintaining my composure.
“Why do you think so Mr Davidson? Aren't you only here to observe?”
The oldest of the trio interviewer said throwing shades at Jethro, obviously their dislike for each other was mutual.
“Of course, the chairman requested me to observe and that is exactly what I have been doing here all day.”
Jethro shot back at the man, awkward silence ensued between them and everyone in the room seemed uncomfortable with the situation.bI figured Jethro had stepped out shortly before I was called in but seeing that he disqualified me as he walked in, he must have been watching the process from CCTV footage.
“What is your reservation about her performance Mr Davidson?”
“Well, she's underqualified for the post, also she doesn't seem smart enough to handle it and she was shortlisted due to my brother’s favouritism.”
He said with a smirk on his smug irritating face. I had to blink back tears that threatened to stream out of my eyes, I wasn't going to give him the satisfaction he craves for.
“That is a serious accusation you have here Mr Davidson.” the petite woman said bluntly.
“She seems intelligent enough to my reasoning.”The older man counter attacked Jethro’s words, defending me.
“Vigorously test her more, if she fails, she is out but if it is a pass, I let it go.”
His sly smile had revealed it all ,he wasn't going to let me get the job no matter how hard I tried. Their banter ended and all attention shifted back to me.
Had Jarvis abandoned me to prove his brother wrong?
Was I being fair judging him like that, wouldn't he prove Jethro right if he had showed up?
I draw in my innermost courage and faced my interviewer.vI could see Jethro adjusting on his seat but I couldn't care less,
I wasn't going to go down without a fight.
Time sleaked by without me realizing it until my body felt it, I was famished and so were my interviewer. To my absolute bliss, I had constructive responses to all the vigorous questions thrown to me.
My courage heightened significantly as I flowed freely with the pace of it all, the affirmative nods I got gave me the inclination that I was going great. I looked over at Jethro whose countenance remained expressionless, I knew my woes weren't over.
“Mr Davidson, do you have any questions for her?”
The older interviewer threw the word in the air and I felt Jethro's gaze on me intensified. Awkward silence ensued in the room for the longest time.
“Mr Davidson,” he called again.
“I do not… have any …question for her.” he said In between clenched teeth.
“Miss Williams, thank you for your time,we will get back to you.”
I bid them goodbye and left the company. The reality of my misfortune finally dawned on me as I walked through the gate of the mansion. I did exceptionally well no doubt but Jethro Davidson wasn't a mere onlooker, his family owned the company and I knew he wouldn't allow my employment.
I made peace with my impending rejection.
“Bad news on an empty stomach is the most terrible combination ever.”
I made it to the kitchen to have my lunch served. I even had the maid double my portion of the food, I would need a lot of stamina for tears, wouldn't I?
I was busy munching on my delicacy while scrolling through social media when a message notification popped up on my phone screen. My brows furrowed as I clicked on it.
“Congratulations Miss Williams, you have been offered a job position at Glassdoor empire, the details of the employment will be communicated to you through your mailbox.”
I threw a chunk of food out of my mouth and jumped up excitedly, I couldn't contain my joy, I had done it, I had overridden Jethro's condemnation.
“Congratulations, you have successfully proved my theory right l
ittle Miss gold digger.”
I turned to see Jethro looking down at me with full rage.
Jethro’s POVI woke up really pissed, I hadn’t planned on going out for that day, but I had made that choice before I could even open my eyes, the terrifying nightmare I just had changed my mind instantly.I made for the shower and wrapped a huge towel round by bulging erection. I remembered my father's scolding of me a few days ago and fresh anger soared in me. I took a warm shower and made for the bedroom, being prone to cold had its downsides, a lot of it.I made my way out of my room dressed in ripped jeans and a red t-shirt, I knew father wouldn’t approve of my appearance, but I couldn’t care less, it is weekend afterall.I had done enough of pretending to be “formal” during the week.On my way to the dining area, the fresh smell of fresh toast filled my nostrils, I inhaled it happily, it felt like all my problems had melted away at that very moment, not that I have much problems, except the fact that father is poking around my life too much.I got to the dining area and I couldn’
Jarvis’s POV My eyes met Elsa's, and I could tell she was embarrassed by my presence. I felt Diana’s long fingers resting on my shoulder as she walked up to me, the commotion had died down a bit as Elsa’s attention was focused on me, for an unknown reason,I felt guilty,Guilty of something that shouldn’t be a crime.“This bitch lied, I swear.”I heard the drunk man trying to defend himself. I looked through his appearance and I could tell he had all the stereotypes of a new money, and most new money are always unnecessarily loud!“Miss Williams, let us leave.”One of her colleagues said, trying to drag her shoulder, confusion written on their faces. I sighted them all except the hefty one, his name I tend to forget.Elsa turned her back, probably trying to take the counsel of her colleagues, but her opponent held back her wrist, taking her and everyone by surprise.“Where the hell do you think you are going bitch? I have to sue you for defamation, or you apologize right now!”Anger
Jarvis’s POV I walked into the restaurant fully dressed in the latest custom made suit I had just ordered from Paris, I didn’t need to be told how enticingly attractive I was, the look I was getting from females around me was proof enough that I had outdone myself more than I actually intended.I made for table seven of the VIP section that father had booked prior to my acceptance of the blind date. He had been insisting that I do as he wished, but I couldn’t bring myself to all these while, I had the hope that Elsa was still going to return to me,Unfortunately, her return proved my theory wrong, she had definitely moved on.I gently moved to my left, the curtain of the VIP room, my date, Diana was waiting for me already. Her face lightened up when she saw me, a green flag that she definitely fell for the looks. Now the second stage of impressing her becomes easier,The sense of humor.“You are right on time Mr Davidson.” She said playfully before I could sit.I smiled warmly at her
Jarvis’s POV The week went on lazily and I desperately wished it would run faster. Thankfully it eventually did, the weekend fell on me like a molten magma,Finally, I could have the chance to sleep in or maybe not,I still needed to work out!!!I yawned lazily as I got up from my soft bed, I kind of ached all over. I hadn’t gone through physical stress that week, but I sure went through an intense emotional struggle.I made for the rub, and immersed myself in the warmth it brings, shampooed my hair and restyled it neatly. I checked the time and I knew it was too late for a workout, so I preferred to take a stroll to connect with Mother Nature and ease my anxiety.I pulled a green tee shirt over my head and exchanged the joggers I had placed ready into a casual jean. I looked at myself in the mirror, and I was satisfied with my outfit and reflection. The moment I got out of my apartment, I stumbled upon Elsa again, this time she was distracted by the call she was on.“At this rate Le
Elsa’s POV I shrugged my shoulders when I made for the VIP elevator, what could the cranky old geezer want from me. I kept my mind open, and held up my confidence, whatever it turns out to be, I wasn’t going to break.I got into the VIP elevator, and when I got out, I had to adjust my silk skirt which was starting to wrinkle, I can’t afford to look less the part of a well put together version of myself. My phone rang and I dropped it. It was dad, but I knew we were going to be in for a long conversation which I don’t have the luxury for right now. He had questioned me repeatedly last night on the phone about the Davidson, obviously he still hadn’t gotten over allowing my return.I made it to the CEO’s office, I met the secretary’s absence, I rolled my eyes inwardly, she must be somewhere having lunch with Jethro, some of these ladies would never learn.I knocked twice before proceeding into the office, as usual the gigantism and welcoming atmosphere of the office engulfed me, in trut
Jethro’s POV I hated her more! She returned acting like she owned the room now, in just eight months, Elsa Williams came back with so much confidence that I feel so beneath her.Isn’t she a mere salary earner?I looked over to her side from across the room, she was talking with the department manager who was smiling sheepishly, I guess he finds her attractive afterall. In truth, she looks more attractive, irresistibly attractive, I must say. I had walked in on two male staff at the cafeteria talking about it the previous day, seeing her right across the room was a confirmation of her new found prowess. The hefty guy that came with her was a real weirdo, he had been staring at me since their arrival. I wasn’t certain if Elsa had told him anything about me, but I could tell it would be negative, I guess every fiber in his body wishes to beat me up right now!But who was he to her anyway? Could they really be mere colleagues?“Mr Davidson, we need your attention here.”I rolled my eyes
