Rein’s laugh echoed across the room. Low and dry at first, then darker. He stood there, arms folded, the corner of his mouth curling like he was genuinely amused. It made my skin crawl.

“Well, that’s unexpected,” he murmured, taking a step forward. “Even after everything… you still stick with him.”

My spine straightened. “This isn’t a choice. It’s survival.”

“No,” he said. “You chose. And that will have to change.”

“What the hell does that mean?” I asked. My voice shook, but I didn’t back down.

He stopped walking and tilted his head. “If you want to live… if they are to live,” he said, gesturing vaguely to my stomach, “you’ll have to let go of him. Soon.”

I blinked, confused. “What are you talking about?”

Rein turned his back to us and began to walk slowly toward the exit. “You really don’t get it, do you?” His voice was quieter now. “You still think this is just about him… about the packs. But it’s not. This is about them. And they’re coming.”

My stomach sank. “Who’s coming?”

EvelynJust as the door had begun to close behind them, a sudden wave of pressure was felt in the center of my forehead. Not painful, just… present. Like something had brushed against the inside of my skull.A voice, clear, calm, and familiar, rang through my mind.“I’ll keep him safe. No matter what happens.”My breath caught. The voice hadn’t been spoken aloud. It had echoed inside my mind, wordless but fully understood. My eyes snapped toward the door, which had already been shut behind them.I stood frozen. So it was true. All those odd moments, how Rein always seemed to know what I wasn’t saying, how he anticipated people’s emotional shifts before they spoke, it hadn’t just been therapist intuition. It wasn’t a guess, or a trained sensitivity. He could read minds.A telepath. It had been confirmed in a single sentence, spoken without a mouth, heard without ears. But despite the shock settling into my chest, a strange calmness followed. The room was still empty, the coldness still

EvelynThe air had been tense. Heavy silence lingered after Christian’s words were spoken. Rein's gaze had hardened, his jaw set in that expression he often wore when things were about to turn, when time was no longer on anyone’s side.“It’s time,” Rein said sharply, stepping toward the door and glancing over his shoulder. “We can’t waste another bloody minute.”A nod was given by Christian, subtle but filled with meaning. No more time would be bought by hesitation. His eyes had then found mine, softer than before. “Get ready,” he told me, voice low but firm. “We’re leaving.”But the moment had barely settled when Rein’s arm was extended sideways, stopping him. His tone was cold and abrupt. “You’re coming with me,” he said, eyes cutting sharply. “She’s not.”The words hadn’t even fully registered before my head shook. “Hell no,” I snapped, stepping forward. “I’m not staying behind. Whatever you’re doing, Christian, I’m doing it too.”Rein turned fully to me. The tension in his jaw cou

Evelyn"This," Rein growled, tightening his grip on Christian's throat, then flinging him backwards against the wall. The sound of Christian's body hitting the plaster made my stomach flip. A picture frame crashed to the ground beside him. "This is what you choose, Christian? This?"Christian groaned, dragging himself up slowly, his hands braced against the wall for support. Rein walked toward him again, his boots thudding heavily across the floor."Answer me!"I flinched at the sound, but Christian spat blood onto the floor and straightened. His voice was hoarse. "Leave her out of this."Rein didn’t listen. He grabbed Christian again and shoved him hard enough that the drywall cracked behind him. My breath caught in my throat. He turned toward me now, pointing one long finger at me. "Is this the fucking hill you want to die on, Christian? A girl you just met? You put her in the middle of a war for what? To save face? Your damn ego?"Christian coughed, wincing as he straightened. "You

EvelynThe bathroom was already filled with steam when I stepped in, the floor slightly slick beneath my feet. I didn’t bother adjusting the temperature knob, I wanted it cold, and I wanted it now. I pulled off the shirt, his shirt, and let it fall into the laundry basket like it weighed a hundred pounds. His scent still clung to my skin.I stepped into the shower, shivering slightly as the icy water crashed onto my shoulders. I tilted my head back, letting the stream wash over me, soaking my hair, sliding down my face, my neck, my breasts, my stomach, everywhere he’d touched. And god, I could still feel him.His mouth on me. His hands gripping my thighs. The way he’d said my name like it meant something.I pressed my palms against the cold tiles and shut my eyes, my breathing shaky. The image of Christian kneeling in front of me flashed in my mind. His lips, wet and hungry, trailing down my stomach. His voice low and raspy in my ears."You’re driving me crazy, Evelyn."A moan slipped

Evelyn“Why are you just standing there?” Christian’s voice pulled me from my haze. He was still behind the counter, flipping a fork in his hand like he was thinking of tossing it at me for ignoring him.I didn’t answer. I couldn’t. My throat felt dry, my legs stiff like they belonged to someone else.He stepped around the kitchen island, his footsteps soft but sure, moving across the marble like a predator, smooth, silent, confident. Every inch he moved closer made my skin burn hotter. By the time he stopped in front of me, he was just inches away.My breath hitched. He was so close now I could smell the warmth of his skin, coffee, cedar, a trace of the body wash I remembered lathering onto his chest last night. The heat of his body rolled toward me in slow, lazy waves. My eyes flicked up, only to meet his piercing blue stare, unapologetically direct. My lungs forgot how to function.I closed my eyes, instinctively.Maybe if I didn't look at him, I could stop myself from doing someth
