Chapter Thirty Five

Fire

The screams seemed so far away and Rodriguez felt like he was stuck in a terrible dream. A horrible, horrible nightmare. He could see everything, feel his body tremble with every passing second as he watched his father being ripped apart in front of him. The blood staining the ground coloring everything red, including his vision.

There had been blood everywhere that day and it still haunted him, even now. He knew that he was having a nightmare, but getting out of it was the problem. Somehow all of a sudden, a sound penetrated his dreamlike state, forcefully bringing him from his nightmare.

“No!” Rodriguez’s shout pierced through the fog that had filled his brain and his world came back into focus in a flash of light. He had not had a single nightmare for years now.

This memory was one that he had kept locked, far away. He looked around frantically, hoping someone would hear him and save him. His eyes caught sight of Silver’s wild curls beside him and the sight helped calm him
