Giovanni and I headed back inside, laughter still dancing between us from the move I pulled at the arena. Luca's face had remained tight, and Cristina had dropped her own gun, refusing to shoot again.

Giovanni glanced at me with a crooked smile. You didn't tell me you were good at archery."

I tossed my hair over my shoulder, mock smug. "I'm a woman of many talents, darling."

He chuckled, the sound warming my belly. "Clearly."

We shared a look, one of quiet understanding, and his expression softened.

He reached for my hand, brushing his fingers against mine as he spoke. "About the dream. Don't let it rattle you, I'll be fine."

I nodded, my heart fluttering at the reassurance from his tone and I opened my mouth to respond, but a voice cut through the hall.

"Oi, Gio!"

Enzo.

He stepped through the front door, dressed in a dark jacket and matching slacks, his face was unreadable as he walked towards us.

"Hey, man," Giovanni greeted him with a smile, and they shared a brief handshake.

I hadn't said a word since I left Enzo. My mind was spinning and my chest felt hollow. A part of me was scared to even admit that I was afraid. Afraid that telling Giovanni the truth would destroy the fragile peace they'd built. That he would never look at me the same. That he might walk away. And that's why I came here. For answers. The cab slowed to a stop, its tires crunching lightly on gravel. I blinked out of my thoughts and looked up at the familiar house. I reached for the door handle, her fingers briefly trembling before I masked it with a deep breath. "Thank you," I murmured to the driver. The cab pulled away, leaving me with my thoughts once more. I took one step toward the porch, trying to steady my heartbeat. Before I could even knock, the door swung open. Michelle's face appeared. I blinked, caught off guard by the timing. "Hey," she said, unsure. Michelle widened the door without a word, and I stepped inside. It smelled the same, vanilla candles and old perfu

I barged into Enzo's office, my breathing ragged and my eyes wild. The sound of my footsteps against the tiles board startled the men inside. Enzo looked up mid conversation, his eyebrows lifting in surprise. "Mr. Carlos." He said after a brief pause, his trademark smile crawling on his face. "Let's continue this tomorrow."The man sitting across from him nodded and rose slowly. He walked towards the door, throwing me a dubious look which I tactfully ignored. I forced myself to paste on a brittle smile as he passed me. The moment the door shut behind him, I stepped forward like a storm unleashed. "It's a woman," I blurted, my voice rising with panic. "The blackmailer. It's a woman." Enzo blinked at me, unimpressed. "You can't just barge in here like this. There's a thing called etiquette, you know.""Enzo!" I snapped, flinging my arms out. "This isn't about etiquette! It's a woman. Do you know what that means?"He cocked a brow, folding his arms against his chest. "No, educate m

The water ran down my scalp in a soothing manner, and I tipped my head back, running my fingers through my soapy hair. The scent of the lavender shampoo was thick as the steam from the warm water enveloped me. I heard a sound from the bedroom and froze. That sounded like the door. The noise echoed again and my eyes shot open. I turned off the tap, water was still running down my back as I called out. "Giovanni?" There was no response. My breath hitched. I stepped out of the shower, grabbed a towel and quickly dried my hair. I plucked a robe from the hanger and wrapped it around me, tying it tightly before slipping into my slippers and walking out. I stepped into my room and dread ran down my spine at the sight of the intruder. They were covered from head to toe in a black raincoat, the hood was pulled low so I couldn't make out a face. My eyes narrowed at the envelope in between their fingers. I recognized the crimson writing on the envelope, it was just like the last one.

GIOVANNI'S POV The bar was dim, and thick with smoke. The hum of the heavy bass music was literally vibrating through the cracked walls. I pushed the door open first, my coat catching the faint red glow of the neon sign above. Enzo trailed behind, scanning the crowd with a half-interested glance."This place is a shithole," Enzo muttered, wrinkling his nose. "You're sure he's going to be here?""He'll be here," I replied, my voice calm. "He's always here. Same day. Same drink. Same time."We moved deeper into the room, the music growing louder. Half naked women swayed under the lazy disco lights, but my eyes were fixed on the back of the room. I spotted him, slouched in the far booth, his fingers wrapped around a glass of brandy. "There," I said, jerking his chin. Enzo squinted. "Ew. Who the hell drinks brandy this early?"Giovanni chuckled, already walking toward the booth. The man didn't flinch as we approached, he simply sipped his brandy and kepts his eyes on the dancers

"Giovanni, no!" I jolted upright, my scream slicing through the quiet darkness of the room. My chest rose and fell in rapid, shallow breaths. The nightmare still clung to me. The image of Giovanni bloodied and crumpled on the floor, the Morelli's standing over him with merciless glares. My fingers trembled as I reached across the bed, desperate for the comfort of his presence but it was empty. And worse, the sheets were cold.Panic surged through my veins. I threw off the covers and swung my legs over the edge of the bed, bursting out of the room and hurrying down the hallway.I didn't care that I was barefoot, or that I clad only in my silk nightgown. The maids eyes widened at the sight of my disheveled state but none said a word. I spotted Cora and headed to her, she opened her mouth to speak but I beat her to it. "Where is my husband?" I demanded, my voice cracking with desperation. Cora hesitated only a second before answering. "The shooting range, miss." I didn't wait for
