Nathanael

I open one of the fake wine bottles, smelling the cork.

“It might not be what you are used to, but they are trying their best.”

She giggles as she watches me pour a glass full of a rare type of blood. “It’s astonishing what those humans are ready to do for a bit of their currency.”

“Hmmm,” I agree with her cynical comment, my guts churning as I find myself conflicted with mocking them for the first time.

Not that I would suddenly care for those poor souls.

“I can take you to the club one of these nights. If you want to really be left astonished,” I force up a mask, washing down Baxter’s face flashing up in front of my inner eye.

Lifting her hand, she giggles again, saying something I can’t hear as my attention gets captured by Gilda standing in the door frame.

How long has she been standing there?

I gulp down the anxiety rising in my chest, my throat flooding with a sour taste as the fear of what her empty expression might mean.

“What is it?” I ask dryly, wanting t

TheodoreI always knew that I was just the side piece. But seeing him with her disintegrated me on a whole other level. I feel numb as I do another set of the weight-lifting machine that I’m sitting in, my biceps not hurting badly enough, if I can still feel my heart stinging in my chest. Ugh. Of course his beloved is flipping gorgeous. Also, my guilt and shame are eating me alive, my senses drifting off as I lose count of whatever exercise I am doing. Luckily, the gym is half empty, and even if my phone died halfway through my cardio exercise, I just got as desperate as my heart could take about karma getting my ass. During a mini panic attack, I managed to call the Hel Company to reach Brad and inform him about my small inconvenience. As usual, he and the stick up his arse took it very professionally, and he gave me an indication of time when he would pick me up at my apartment with his driver, giving me enough time to finish my gym routine. Bleh. Closing my eyes as I let t

Theodore “Hey there,” my lips hurt as I fight to keep my smile upright and push down the urge to retreat and run out of the room again. The hulkish man, I definitely had a feverish dream about beating him senseless, steps closer with a scrunched-up expression. I try to read it to find out if he is about to attack me, but it seems unreadable, as disgust certainly doesn’t match the situation. “Baxter, right?” He grumbles, his Adam's apple bumping as his throat seems to revolt at the words he wants to force out of his mouth. And still he wasn’t that shy to talk to me in the cafeteria. I gulp, continuing to grin at him like an idiot, my stomach trying to transform its walls into iron to fend off the fatal blow coming for it. “Uh-huh.” My fingers itch, and I clench my fists to prevent myself from clasping my shirt’s collar. Oh, but at least I smell like a fairy-tale princess. Maybe that will play in my favor. The desairologist will have a lot less work to do on me. If he doesn’t

TheodoreI slip into my shirt, stumbling into the kitchen where I find Gilda staring at two steaming cups with an empty look. “Oi,” I shout out of breath, causing her to jump up. Halting to look at her, I scrunch up my nose, taking a deep breath. “Are you alright?” She nods, the light returning into her eyes as she forces a smile onto her lips once again. “Sure.” Picking up the cups of tea, she empties them into the kitchen sink. “I guess I overbrewed them.” She waves dismissively as she puts up a strange expression, making me forget what I just saw in the bedroom. “Is everything alright with you? You seem quite upset.”“Erm…” I pull at my clothes, sorting out my thoughts as I remember what just happened. “I’m not quite sure. Maybe I’m ready for the asylum for good.”We stare at each other in silence, and she blinks in confusion. “What?” “You have to see it, or you will never believe me.” Grabbing her wrist, I pull her out of the kitchen. She cusses me out, stumbling after me as

TheodoreI’m about to drift off into the land of dreams when I hear the door open and close with a bang, jerking me out of my half-sleepy state. The beloved? I turn my head to the door, waiting for the heels clicking on the shiny floors to reach me. My skyrocketing heartbeat calms down immediately as Gilda pops her head in, smiling broadly at me. “How are you feeling?” “Awesome.” I grin at her, lifting my hands filled with little bubbles. “I must be taking a bath that costs somewhat around one million dollars.” She giggles as I let my arms fall, washing my hands from the foam. “You are looking ridiculously cute.” “Just look at how fancy those bottles are. I guess this is the last straw that will get me fired,” I giggle with her, swaying one of the bottles back and forth. Stepping closer, she closes the door behind her to stop the cold from streaming into the room. “Wow, you really emptied a lot of into the tub.” “Yeah,” I sigh, lowering my head to the bubbles. “I guess his belov

Theodore Pulling at the strand of my hair, I bounce my legs as I am leaned over, my elbows propped onto my knees. I start to feel dizzy, but I don’t care. The blood sticking on me is making my stomach churn, and I would want nothing more than to just tear the clothes off my body. Oh, God, I think I’m going to throw up. Sobbing, I tighten my fists, clasping my hair harder. Not only will I be processed for an assault in a cafeteria and be broadcast on all news channels for my family to see. But I will also lose my job. Oh, God, I’m going to jail. Who cares about the job? Helades’ face flickers up in front of my inner eye, and I sob again, cuddling deeper. As I’m sobbing pathetically, I nearly miss the lock of the door clicking, and I jerk up to look at the door opening. My heart backflips in my chest as Helades steps into the narrow room, and before I can feel any fear about what he will say or do, I feel so relieved. As the scent of his cologne envelops me, I s
