Even though the new handmaiden the Alpha had assigned to her was diligent—attentive to her needs, industrious, and obedient—Lena could not help but long for Milicent.

Milicent had been more than a mere servant. She had been a companion, a confidante, perhaps the sister Lena had never known.

She had not yet thanked the Alpha for saving her. In truth, she had scarcely left her chambers in days.

“Thank you, Lord Jaime, for granting me your time,” she said quietly, rising to her feet in an effort to see him to the door.

As they stepped across the threshold, the corridor beyond was alive with activity. People moved about with purpose, tending to their duties, yet many paused to greet her with warmth and familiarity.

A far cry from how they had received her upon her arrival.

Dorcas, her new handmaiden, had informed her that the people now saw her as their Luna—news had spread that she was not the traitor’s daughter, as once believed. Their treatment of her had shifted accordingly.

They turned down a path, the cobbled stones damp beneath their feet, and the torches on the walls casting flickering shadows."Even if I know my husband's feelings for you will not depart from his heart," Selena said, her voice gentle, almost wistful, "I still believe that one day, he will love me for who I am."Lena stopped at once. She said it. The words Lena had long dreaded, yet expected, had finally been spoken. The silence lingered like a held breath."Luna," Lena began slowly, choosing her words with care, "we... I do not have feelings for your husband. My heart is for another."Selena reached out, grasping her hand with a soft smile. "I am not bothered by that," she said. "I would rather find a way to rid myself of the problem."Lena quickly pulled her hand away and turned her gaze about. Only then did she realize where they stood. The corridor was narrow, the light dim. The usual castle bustle was absent. No guards. No servants. No sound but their breathing and the faint rust

  • Surrogate Bride To The Alpha Stand-in   103: Rising Fury

Alpha Ethanasius rode hard into the camp, mud splashing beneath his horse’s hooves as his eyes scanned the group of gathered Alphas. They were already on edge, some armed, others pacing like caged beasts.“They ambushed us,” he said as he dismounted, voice low but sharp. “The pack leaders… they’re here. And they brought human soldiers with them.”“What?” Alpha Solen barked, stepping forward. His eyes glinted with disbelief and fury. “Where is Darius? Why hasn’t he returned from the witches’ clan?”Ethanasius met his gaze. “I don’t know. But sure he's getting aid as we speak.”Alpha Valren scoffed, folding his arms. “Maybe he’s left us to our doom. That man always walks his own path.”Before anyone could respond, a booming voice echoed across the clearing.“Alphas of the fallen blood,” Lord Rhovan’s voice carried like thunder. He sat atop a tall black steed, flanked by guards, his red cape flaring in the wind. “Come out of your tents now. No bloodshed. No resistance. Or I will burn you

Alaric stood abruptly, wiping the tears from his eyes with a trembling hand.“I want nothing to do with that child. Take him away from me.”“But—”He cut off the voice with a cold glare and turned sharply, his eyes burning with fury as he strode toward the pack leaders gathered around a roaring bonfire. The infant’s cry pierced through the pounding rain, echoing across the open clearing like a desperate plea.“You’ve taken my wife from me because of your blind fears,” Alaric roared, voice raw with grief and rage. “And now my son? What has he done to deserve your hatred?”Lord Rhovan held the baby aloft, the flames dangerously close—licking at the child’s half face, already marking it with a raw, angry scar.“He carries the blood of our ancestors. We cannot allow him to live.”Alaric stepped forward, eyes wild and voice trembling with emotion.“You vile, power-hungry fools! Open your eyes! That child has my gift—no ancient blood stains his veins.”His gaze locked on the infant’s fragil

The thunder of hooves echoed through the village as Cedric rode hard into the square. Villagers turned from their tasks, eyes drawn to the rider whose cloak billowed behind him like a banner in the wind. From the doorway of a modest cottage, Milicent stepped forth, breath catching as she beheld him. “My lord!”Without pause, they rushed into each other’s embrace.“My lord, you have returned,” she whispered, her voice trembling with relief.Cedric drew back slightly, eyes scanning her for harm. “Are you hurt? Did they lay hands upon you?”She shook her head, a soft smile tugging at her lips. “Nay, I am not. By some miracle, Lillian reached me before they did.”“Praise the gods,” Cedric breathed, pulling her close once more, his hold fierce with fear barely past. “The Moon Goddess has shown mercy this day—I dared not think what might’ve come to pass.”Milicent laughed gently, though his words stirred unease within her. His joy, so sincere, could cease any moment.“You said Lillian saved

  • Surrogate Bride To The Alpha Stand-in   99: The Breaking of Scarlet

Morning light spilled gently through the arched window of the healer’s chamber, casting golden shafts across the stone floor. It crept toward the narrow cot and brushed against Scarlet’s face. Her lashes fluttered at first, then slowly lifted, revealing eyes dazed from slumber. She blinked against the light and, with effort, rose upright. Her gaze swept the room—empty. Neither the healer nor Alpha Darius was present. But then—there was a sound. A soft clatter from the shelves, as though something had been disturbed.“Hello?” her voice called, faintly hoarse. “Is someone there?”No answer came. Only silence returned. She swung her legs over the cot and attempted to stand, but her knees buckled beneath her. She collapsed to the floor, the chill of the stone biting into her skin. Her breath caught. She felt... hollow. There was no strength within her limbs—and worse, her wolf was silent. She could not sense it. Could not call to it.Panic pricked at the edge of her thoughts. Then—footste
