"You just shifted," was how the King responded, a fire in his eyes that seemed to make Kendra feel like she was melting. "Y-yes sir," she stammered before standing up fully, though she kept her eyes down again. She wasn't sure where to look. "I was confirming, not asking," he says, though his voice is not unkind, but curious. "Incredible. A female Alpha. A thing not even of legends." He stood up, and crossed the space between them in an instant. The mouthwatering scent was now overwhelming her. He lifted her chin with the tips of his fingers. Electricity spread from the spots where his fingers touched, and her breath hitched. Their eyes met, and his was now as wide as hers. She finally heard her wolf, confirming what was starting to dawn on her. Mate. Kendra was the daughter of the Beta of her Pack, and while she had that strong wolf blood in her veins, she hadn’t shifted at 13. Rather than despairing, she threw herself into her future, where she would be an Advocate amongst humans, asking for wolf rights and hoping that being unable to shift would put them at ease. However, on her 18th birthday, something unheard of happened- she shifted. Now, she has to juggle handling her newfound responsibilities, her conflicting feelings with the former Gamma’s son, Derek, and on top of all of it, her mate bond with Lycan King Kenzo, who despite being cold and distant to many, grew to be warm and kind to her. Will she be able to disregard her feelings for Derek and live happily with Kenzo, or will she reject her mate bond, and risk losing everything, to be with a man who seems to be hiding a secret from her?

Kings protect the entire race, willing to give their lives if necessary. Pack members find their purpose, whether it's learning to fight, learning medicine, or being the advocate for the human realm so they can continue living their lives. All of these roles are critical to the survival of every pack. That is why if there is a wrench thrown into these expectations, things tend to go wrong.
Take Kendra Wilder, for example. A young, quiet, gentle young woman who didn't receive her wolf at 13 like was expected of her. Despite being the daughter of a Beta, and having an unbroken werewolf lineage, the pack thought that she would never have a wolf. This made her the perfect advocate for the human world, which she already enjoyed learning so much about. She learned their languages and customs. She learned their manners and laws. She learned the way they dressed and their expressions. She was nearly a human expert, and that was all anyone expected of her. There was no way that a Beta's daughter would get her wolf any later than that, so she needed to something that would benefit her Pack.
However, the night of her 18th birthday changed all of that. Not only would her life forever change, nor would just the lives of her pack change, but the lives of her entire race would be changed, and her name would forever be etched into history.

The morning of Kendra's birthday, she was so excited that she could hardly stand it. Her entire body felt electrified. Every nerve was standing on edge. She could hear her family downstairs, excitedly putting last minute things for the party later tonight ready. Despite the fact that her hearing wasn't quite as good as her family's, or anyone else's in the Pack for that matter, she still had better hearing that humans, which let her pick up some things that they were saying, such as that she was going to be getting a large cake and that the party would be huge, but that was pretty much all that she could hear.
Since she knew that she still had a lot to do before everyone got there, she decided to go ahead and finish some things up. She texted her cousins to make sure that they were still coming to decorate, double checked the RSVP list to make sure that at least most of the Pack was coming, and was filled with butterflies when she saw that her crush, Derek, had requested tonight off from Patrol to attend. He was a high ranking member, and despite her not having a wolf, a Beta's daughter is still a good catch for any wolf looking to climb the ranks. She knew that that was part of her appeal to him, but he had always been nice to her, so she hoped that it was more than that.
Looking forward to seeing you tonight she texted him, her heart aflutter.
Almost instantly he read it, but he didn't respond. She didn't think too much of it because she knew that he was probably having to do Patrol now to make up for missing tonight. She thought for a moment about trying to mindlink, but she pushed the thought from her head. Everyone knew that only members with wolves could mindlink. Part of her wondered why after so many years she thought of trying it again, but she chalked it up to nerves. She just wasn't thinking, and for so long she had thought that she would be able to, it makes sense that every now and again she might think about trying it. It's not like it would hurt to try, anyways.
She stood there for a moment, trying to decide if she should try to mindlink with Derek. Is he really the first one that she would want to mindlink with though? No, that would be Pixie. She steeled herself, ready for disappointment, as she closed her eyes. She pictured Pixie in her head, and was throwing her mind towards her. She was thinking about how much she missed her and wanted to see her best friend again. There was no response. There was, however, a feeling of excitement.
Kendra sighed and opened her eyes, assuming that that was just her own excitement for her party. She felt foolish for trying to mindlink with anyone. She knew better. After checking off a few more items on her checklist, she flopped on her bed. She was tried from double and triple checking. She hadn't even gone downstairs to eat yet.
She took a deep breath before pushing open the door, her limbs once again shaking. Inside the room was two men, and a woman. She was certain that the man in the middle, a man only a few years older than her, at the head of the table as they all sat around, was the King. He had shaggy black hair, and was lazily lounged out, with his feet in another chair. However, just as she realized that the wonderful scent of a warm fireplace seemed nearly overpowering in here, his eyes snapped up to hers, and she saw the depths of his amber eyes. She felt like she was going to be eaten alive if she looked into them for too long."H-hello," she stammered, dropping her head under the intensity of his gaze. "My name is Kendra Wilder.""Miss Wilder, it is a pleasure to meet you," the other man, whose gaze isn't still consuming me, said as he stood up, offering his hand to her. She took it nervously, though she gave it a firm shake. "My name is Beta Jax Clyde. I am the King's right hand.""It's nice to
Kendra was left alone in her childhood room, and she couldn't help but feel guilty for how she had treated her mother. Even if she found the idea ridiculous, she should have been kinder, or at least more respectful, of her mother and her choices. She was only doing what she had thought was best for her, and she still mocked her for it. A stone of guilt settled in her stomach as she stared at her reflection. If she was going to be an Alpha, then she had to grow up, and fast. She couldn't afford to be childish or make other people upset or uncomfortable. It could jeopardise her position, and that of her family. She couldn't allow for that to happen. She slowly stood up, straightening herself and smoothing out her dress as she stood. The stone in her stomach was accompanied by a lump in her throat, but she did her best to ignore both of them. Drawing in a slow, long breath, she finally turned around so she could walk out of the room. Everything in her home was chaos. People were running
The warm morning sun shun on Kendra’s face, waking her from her uneasy sleep. There were dark bags under her puffy, blood shot eyes. Her arm ached from where the IV was tugged last night, but at least it wasn't actively hurting, and it didn't seem like she had accidently caused any bleeding. Breathing a sigh of relief, she then rolled over onto her back, staring up at the ceiling, Her stomach was tied up in knots, because today was the day that she was going to meet the King, and he was going to annoyance if she was truly an Alpha or not. He was able to smell it on someone. Most higher ranked Lycans were able to, actually, but the King was able to do it without a shadow of a doubt, something that no other Lycan could boast about. Only the King was able to do that, and even then, not all Kings had been able to. Sometimes it skipped a generation or two."I'm scared," she whispered out loud, wishing that her wolf would speak to her. Everyone else had said that they did, so why didn't her
“I mean, I don’t know,” Derek admitted, still looking to be in awe. “You don’t smell the way that I thought mates were supposed to,” he admitted further, breaking eye contact.“You don’t either,” she sighed, looking down at her hand. “So what was that?”“Maybe since you’re a female Alpha, stuff is different,” he suggested, slowly reaching to touch her face. His hand on her face sent a shiver through her body, and it was clear it did for him as well. His eyes went dark with need, and she wondered if she was in touch enough with her wolf for hers to as well. He lowered his lips to hers, and she greeted them eagerly. His hand moved to the back of her head as he slung one knee on the other side of her so he trapped her body against the bed, not that she minded. Her hands grabbed the collar of his shirt, yanking him closer to her.She wrapped her arms around his neck, each spot of skin to skin contact sending another wave of heat over them. However, just as the make out session was getting
Dr. Hangslin left Kendra alone, telling her that she would come check on her in a couple of hours. Kendra was tossing and turning, unable to fall asleep again. She knew that she would need all the sleep she could get so that way she would be somewhat presentable to the King when he arrived, but she couldn't help it. She was riddle with anxiety. Her entire body was still sore, though it no longer hurt thanks to the IV the doctor had given her. Her body didn't even feel like her own from the pain, but that was the least of her worries. As an Alpha, she would be required to do so many things that she wasn't even aware of. Besides the basics like protecting and leading the Pack, she would have to approve marriages, determine if a Pack member's mate should be allowed to become a member of the Pack or not. She would be responsible for determining who would go on Patrols. Picking her own Beta and Gamma. There was so much that she would have to do that she felt like her chest would burst. Des
Kendra awoke on something soft, surrounded by angry voices and hushed tones. The smell was harsh and artificial. That was what clued her into the fact that she was in a hospital bed. She must have been brought here by someone that found her in the shower after her seizure. She tried to open her eyes, but they were too heavy. So we’re her limbs. Even her chest felt heavy, though luckily she seemed to be breathing fine.“I don’t care what you say,” came the snarling voice of a man she didn’t know, though his voice sounded familiar. “This is a lie. A lie that will bring shame on this Pack. Do you take us for fools?” the last sentence was shouted, silencing all the other voices.“Well then, bring in your own doctor,” came a cool, calm voice. That of Dr. Hangslin, the Pack’s main doctor. “I will even provide you with copies of the x-rays to take back to your Pack, though I know that your doctor is here. This was her first shift. Everything was in line with it. All the broken limbs. The sei
