ALEXANDER’S POV

A loud roar erupted from my throat as I watched her roll off the raven. Thoughts of how she could lose the baby engulfed my mind. My eyes became bloodshot. Anger surging through every part of me like fire being thrown into petrol, threatening to consume every inch of me.

Without thinking further, my legs made their way down, breaking out in a race. I could feel my anger forging some kind of power inside of me. I felt stronger and powerful.

With the speed of the light, I ran deeper into the dark hole. My eyes taking in every single detail in the place as I searched for her.

Yet, there was no sign of her.

That selfish woman really outdo herself this time.

I knew I was so going to rip her head off if I ever found her.

With my legs wide apart, I filtered out the noise and the sounds coming from wherever the animals were. I knew it was going to be only a matter of time before one of the wild animals found her and shredded her into pieces. I had to find her first.

I closed my eyes briefly and let my ears travel through. I could hear them storming. I could hear the leaves rustling.

But nothing that sounded like her.

Try harder, Alexo.

I mumbled to myself.

Finally I caught ear of something. It sounded like the heartbeat of my child. I know for sure because I have heard it not once.

I pulled my eyes apart, bringing myself back to reality then head towards where the heartbeat came from. The leaves let out sounds as I moved on them but I paid no attention to its warning of me being quiet.

I didn’t want to be quiet. I wanted to speak. I wanted whoever or whatever it was that tried or attempted to near my child to hear of my coming. I wanted to instill fear in them.

I was ready and willing to face whatever it was, just to protect my child.

I wandered deeper into the space, my heart thudding so loudly against my ribcage showed that I was almost there. I was close. At one point, I could sense her fear from a distance.

A rustle came from my right side and I turned my head to see her attempting to pull herself forward, deeper into this creepy place.

Letting out a groan, I made my way towards her.

“Foolish woman! You really think you can hide from me.” I said as my right hand grabbed her neck to bring her face up to me. “I will make you regret trying to kill my child.” I sworn.

She lets out low gasps. Her fingers trying to peel off mine from her neck. When she didn’t succeed, she hit me on my chest. Her breath coming out with full force.

“I hate you!” She cussed in a whisper then coughed. “This is never going to be your child.” She added, her lips dry.

She sounded weak. She was weak.

I could see the bruises she had on her forehead and arm. I was at least glad that nothing happened to my baby.

“We shall see.” I assured her.

She lets out a cough again, her hand hitting me on the chest one more time before it fell beside her. Her eyes closing slowly.

Picking her up in my arms, I carried her out of this dark space and back to the car. My anger heightening with each step I took.

“Wait till you wake, Mamito. I promise to make you pay.” I muttered under my rasped breathe, hoping she would hear and flinch.

But she doesn’t as she laid there like a pile of log. A pile of my log.

I formed my palms into fists as I watched the doctor check her up. Seeing his hands on her made me want to rip them off and make him serve as an example to anyone who dared to touch my wife or child.

But I managed to put my anger under control.

He was the only one I could reach after I got home. The females were either on leave or had another emergency.

He finally stood up after some minutes, taking his hand off her. I released the breathe that I held back, my fist dissolving into a less brutal one.

“How is my baby, Doctor?” I asked and saw him raise his brows in a questioning manner. “And my wife?” I added.

He cleared his throat and started to place his things back into his suitcase.

“I’m happy to announce that the baby is fine. We should be glad that she sustained the fall. It must be one hell of a strong baby.” He informed, causing me to close my eyes briefly and let out a sigh.

I was relieved. I could feel my heart rate slow down a little.

Was she dead? Was that why he said nothing about her?

Not that I cared but she had to stay alive long enough to birth my child.

“The Mother is recovering well too. I gave her some injections to help her rest well for now. I will be back by tomorrow to check up on her again.” He added as though he was reading my mind.

I gave him a nod.

I didn’t bother to argue with him because I knew deep down that there was no way he was coming back here to touch her again.

Maybe I could take it the first time but the second. The second might cause him his life.

“Thank you Doctor.” I said as politely as I could between clenched teeth.

He sent me a smile and stretched forth his hand to shake me. I took it, squeezing his palm tightly as jealousy consumed me, reminding me that he had touched her with this particular hand.

“You good, Mr Alex?” He asked causing me to snap out of my thoughts.

I nodded and let go of his hand then watched him leave, closing the door behind him. I made my way towards the bed, standing over her and watching her keenly.

She looked so peaceful and calm as she slept. Nothing like the devil she was. My eyes trailed down to her protruding belly.

A sense of belonging filling me up.

Finally I had something that was mine. Mine alone.

I leaned in towards her, my lips against her left ear.

“You are stuck with me forever, Mamito.” I whispered with a smirk curling up my lips.
