EVIE POV
“Disguising yourself as a boy to go to an all boys academy is insane!” Mom yelled, looking at me like I had gone insane. “Especially when the school in question isn’t exactly known for being kind to its students.”
“Don’t you get it Mom?” I cast a look at my Dad for help. “The school board said there’s no evidence that suggested that Ethan was bullied despite the bruises all over his body. Once I’m able to get the evidence to prove it, Ethan will finally get the justice he deserves.”
A sound came from the doorway, pulling us away from our argument to look at my twin brother Ethan. Seeing him standing there, looking confused, wounded and hurt makes my chest hurt the most.
Anger stirred up in my guts at what has been done to him. Ethan has always had a hard time due to his autism. Growing up together means I was always there to protect him, until we had to go our separate ways for college.
It was a decision that was hard on both me and our parents, but Ethan was determined to fly solo. He wanted to experience life without me hovering around, which I understood even though it hurt to be separated from him.
Despite him being an hour older than me, I was always playing the role of big sister. One could imagine my excitement when he was given a scholarship to study in Relics collage, an academy for the elites only.
Usually only the sons of Alphas, Betas and other wealthy members of the pack could attend due to how insanely expensive the academy is. My brother, being a genius, became the first student to be awarded a scholarship into that school.
However everything came crashing down a week ago. Ethan was being bullied, at first it was scratches—which he managed to hide from us for a few days. Then the injuries got bigger and harder to hide.
“Ethan…come here.” Mom quickly wipes her tears, gesturing for him to come closer.
“Don’t let Evie go…” he whispered, looking down. “They are evil… Kaden, Logan…and Jordan.”
I winced inwardly, turning my back on him to hide the tears blurring my vision. It doesn’t matter what my parents say, I’ll make sure those bastards pay for the nightmares they’ve brought upon my family.
“Darling, I hate this as much as you, but Evie may have a point.”
Hearing my Dad say that, I spun around, my face lighting up at the support. “Tell Mom please, we can’t let them get away with what they did to Ethan.”
“What is your plan then?” Mom demanded after glaring at Dad. “Because there’s no way I’m throwing another one of my children to the wolves. This is all my fault, I shouldn’t have agreed to let him go.”
My mom hasn’t stopped blaming herself ever since the whole thing unfold. I wish I could make her understand that none of this is her fault. It is those bastards and I won’t rest until I make them pay.
“I—”
Dad interrupts me, shaking his head. He motioned for me to take Ethan back to his room. I did exactly that, realizing he needs the privacy to convince Mom to let me do this.
The plan is simple: set them up, film the evidence and send copies of it to the cops, and the school board. Let’s see if either of them can argue with the evidence.
Ethan's grip tightened on my arm as we reached his bedroom, pulling me away from my thoughts.
“What is it?” I ask him calmly, urging him to sit down.
He shook his head, his eyes wide and frightened. “Don’t go… they are evil.”
“Which is why I need to go, people like them should be locked up in a cell. What they did to you Ethan… it’s cruel and I won’t let them do it to someone else.”
“They are evil…” he repeated, clearly not paying attention to my words. “They will hurt you, Evie.”
Moved by his concern, I forced a smile. “So because you went to a fancy school for a few months, you’ve suddenly forgotten how tough I am, huh?”
Folding my arms across my chest, I feign anger.
“You’re tough, but—”
“No buts.” I place my pointed finger on his lips, using it to shut him up.
“Evie?”
I turned at the sound of my name, rising to my feet, I walked over to our Dad.
“Are you able to convince Mom?” I inquired, pausing for his response.
He nodded. “But only for a week, if you’re unable to get the evidence in a week, she has sworn to come and drag you out of there by herself. And I fully support your mother on that.”
Filled with happiness, I threw my arms around him. “Thank you so much! I should have no problem taking Ethan’s identity.”
Turning to my brother with a mischievous grin, I say. “See? It pays to be an identical twin.”
He turned away from me, his eyes clouded. My heart dropped, not having his support hurts but knowing I’ll earn his forgiveness after I expose the demons who are responsible for hurting him.
In the two days that followed, I went through a complete transformation. Cutting off my long dark hair to mirror the same haircut Ethan has. I borrowed his uniform and IDs.
“Remember, you only have a week and if you run into any trouble, call me or your Mom immediately.” Dad reminded me, dropping me off at the gate.
“Seriously, I will be fine.” I reassured him, leaving over to kiss him goodbye.
I waited until the car drove out of sight before making my way into the school premises. Having been here only once when Ethan wanted to enroll, I had stared wide-eyed at the building structure and marveled at the beauty of it.
But after knowing the horrors that goes on in there, it became a haunted castle to me. Taking a deep breath, I make my way to the Dean’s office, aware of the curious eyes I was getting.
“Ethan Moonstone, is it?” He didn’t bother to mask his surprise, to be fair my Mom did make a scene about my brother never coming back the last time we were in his office.
“Yes, sir.” I responded in a voice I am hoping sounds like Ethan.
He eyed me, a line of wrinkles forming on his forehead. “It’s good to see you again, hopefully this time you won’t be causing any scene. It took the board a lot to make up for the accusations you filed against our star pupils.”
My fingers crawled into a fists at his words. I wanted to slam them onto his face until my knuckles blistered with blood. Despite the anger stirring up inside me, I force a smile.
“That won’t happen again sir.”
“Good, have a wonderful semester.” He dismissed me, going back to the porno he was watching before I came in.
No wonder every student in there is a rotten piece of shit, I mean… look at what the Dean is watching in the middle of the day.
I had barely stepped foot in the hallway before I was shoved into a commotion by the rushing students. They gathered, forming a circle. Joining the crowd, my mouth flew open at the scene that unfolds in front of me…!
EVIE POV The moment I pulled Jordan into his room, the courage to tell him failed me. How was I supposed to tell him the betrayal was coming from inside? I looked at him without raising my head, he was staring back at me waiting for me to say something. “Evie?” He urged, breaking the silence. “I wanted to talk to you about the last conversation we had. Forget it, don’t think too much of it.” I blurted out instead since that was the first serious discussion that came to mind. He nodded, seemingly buying it. Although when he tried to pull me into his arms, I easily stepped out. “I have to see Professor Shane about Ethan’s research, they are having a meeting today.” I strode out of his room, aware of him trailing after me. “You seriously want to get involved with that research?” He inquired, adding to my confusion. “Has anyone seen Kaden?” Logan poked his head out of his room, looking at us. “He left earlier,” I responded, my face heated up at the memory of what transpired betwee
EVIE POV For some reason I have started to get an odd feeling about my brother’s research. But I have bigger things to worry about, like the migraine I woke up with this morning. I thought after showering, and drinking a glass of water, my head would stop hurting. I just figured out it was due to stress, I was wrong. Since Logan is the medicine guy, I went into his room to see if he had some pain killer. I stopped at his desk, frowning at his open laptop. The screen was still lit up, indicating he probably just left the room. I sat down, checking the open tabs to see what he’s been up to. Something—a video flashed across the screen next. The video of Victoria and the random due that's been flying around campus for the past two days. I froze up, not wanting to believe that Logan would share the video. Closing the tab, I stood up and rushed out of the room, forgetting all about the painkiller I went in there to grab in the first place. I walked into someone, causing me to jump back
EVIE POV For the first time since I have known them, Jordan was hesitant about leaving the dorm. While we wouldn’t have minded staying with him all day, I had classes to attend, so did Kaden and Logan. However, I didn’t think Kaden would be attending any of his classes as he is still obsessed with finding out the source of the linked video. It couldn’t possibly have been shared from Jordan’s phone. The culprit needs to have a copy, which they will then distribute. My conversation with Jordan left me feeling a bit jumpy as I’m scared he will tell Logan and Kaden the truth. Although it is true, I didn’t think they would understand. I’m having fun with them, but with Jordan it feels different—and I don’t hate him. I looked at Professor Shade from above my laptop, marvelling at how normal he looks. Looking at him, there’s no way of guessing he’s running an illegal activity in the school tunnel. Once class was over, I took my stuff and hurried out. “Mr. Moonstone—“ his voice stoppe
EVIE POV As Jordan kissed me, brushing me backward against the bed. I was aware of the fact that Alfred of all people was just outside the door. Colour stains my cheeks, my breathing deepening when I feel his hand creep into my shirt. Before things could spin out of control, I broke the kiss. Eyes heavy with lust, he stared questioning at me. My heart jerked against my chest at the intensity of his gaze. I almost forgot why I stopped in the first place. I plastered my palm across his chest, feeling his heartbeat. His expression shifts to confusion as he continues to curiously watch me. “You need to work through the pain, Jordan. I think the reason why he still hurts is because you’ve been running away from it. You need to feel it, to embrace it.” I whisper, sliding my eyes back up to him. My hand moved up his chest to cup his face. I bring his face down, giving the illusion of kissing him. His tongue darts out, more than ready to take control of my lips. I draw back, my lips bri
EVIE POV I have a tutor session with Asher, so I couldn’t return to the dorm just yet. Maggie and I parted ways, a sweet reminder that we are really back to being friends. I remind myself to ask her later about what caused the fire at her school and stuff like that. By the time I arrived at the auditorium, I was a little late. I slid down in front of Asher, immediately setting my laptop up. “Sorry for being late, it’s been a crazy day.” I paused, figuring out he might have an idea about what I am talking about. I wouldn’t be so shocked to learn that every department is aware of that video—poor Jordan. Things are already on the verge of rocks with his parents. I know for a fact that this would shatter whatever that’s left of their relationship. Even though Victoria is an asshole, and her husband an even bigger one. For the sake of Jordan, I am going to do something about the video before he finds out. “Do you know anything about computers? Like hacking and stuff?” I asked Asher.
EVIE POV Test week is over, and what better way to celebrate it by treating ourselves to a certain amount of yoghurt. At first I’d try to use it wisely as Jordan, Logan and Kaden, haven’t been available for me to treat them until now. We sat under a shed, just drinking and saying nothing. It was peaceful. Being with them like this— when they are not trying to torture me or ruin somehere else life. Not to mention they’ve been really helpful trying to make me forget about Maggie being here, and not talking to her. Even though it was their freaking fault. I have decided not to dwell on the past, why do that when you’re enjoying the present a little too much? My eyes met with Jordan’s, he winked at me then went back to whatever he’s watching on his phone. I could smell Damien’s scent from a distance, I knew the others could too. After the incident at the tunnel a few days ago, he has been stalking us—me in particular. Kaden had made it clear that once the deal with Alfred is over, h
EVIE POV I went completely still against him, squeezing my eyes briefly shut, wishing I was dreaming right now. Or better yet it was all in my head. When the feeling wouldn’t go away, my eyes opened just as the light came on again. “Did you switch off the lights to kidnap me?” I demanded as soon
EVIE POV After Jordan’s sister came to inform us about his mother asking us to join them at the yard for an activity, it took half an hour to finally join them. I had to shower and change into something, it took longer because I was trying to prevent Jordan from seeing me. If it were up to him, w
EVIE POV About an hour later, I was done showering and getting ready, the only thing I was waiting for was the maid Jordan said he would send to fetch me. In the meantime, I pace around the bedroom looking at the artwork. While I’m not exactly an art enthusiast, I admire the ones I found pretty.
EVIE POV I knew my parents weren’t going to come, yet I still find myself occasionally looking at the entrance. Feeling suffocated by my tie, I loosen it and took a glass of champagne from a passing by waiter. Well, it’s one of the students volunteering to be one. There are quite a few like him w
