MasukXavier was confused. He turned around, but couldn't find the woman who was with him in the room.
"That bitch," He murmured, putting his length back in. He turned to the girl who had gotten into his room. He stared at her for a while before smirking. "You've got guts, but you do know I can end your life with just a snap of my fingers." She smirked. She moved around his room, staring at the stuff he had. "You can." She touched the tip of a sword that was hanging on the wall. "But I don't think that would help either of us." Xavier raised a brow at her. "So what do you think you have that can help me?" "Well, you need a woman who can seduce a dragon, and I need the reward from the King." "So many women have tried to seduce the dragon," He said, walking towards her. He held her hand before she touched an artifact by the corner. He pulled her closer, staring into her blue eyes. "What makes you think you can?" She chuckled before gently pulling her hand away from his. "All my life I have lived in a tavern. I have watched people make endless love to each other. I know what to do, how to do it, and what not to do." She walked towards a chair next to his and sat on it. "If you are looking for someone to do the job, then I don't think you'll ever find someone better than me." Xavier was intrigued. He stared at the girl as she sat like a noblewoman in the King's court. But, from the way she was dressed, he knew she was nothing more than a peasant. He sighed. He had tried noble ladies and peasants, those who were skilled in the art and those who weren't, so why not try this girl? Besides, she was beautiful. Her long blonde hair flowed to her waist, her blue eyes could catch anyone's attention and pull them like a magnet, and her skin was smooth and flawless. She looked the part, so what more could he lose? He walked towards her and sat down. "Fine, I'll give you a shot, but first of all, tell me, how were you able to get up through my window." "I'm sorry Mage, but I'm sure you know this too well." She folded her arms. "A Magician never reveals her secret." The Mage chuckled. "So tell me, what is the name of this brave damsel?" She smiled. "You can call me Elaina." *** Elaina stood by the gate. She had been adorned by the Mage's maids. When the Mage arrived, he handed her a torch and then a harp. "What do you need this for?" He asked. She smiled. "It's part of my plan." He just looked from her to the harp. "Then I expect great news from you then." Elaina curtsied before turning around. Slowly, she went down the flight of stairs. When she got to the bottom, she searched for a torch holder. She lit the ones she found, giving light to the dark dungeon. She turned around, surveying everywhere. She was alone. There was another gate by the corner, a smaller one, but it was shut. That was where the dragon was—she guessed. She sat down on the floor and started playing the harp. A minute turned to an hour, but she didn't stop, she just kept playing. Suddenly she heard footsteps approaching. At first, it was faint, but then it became more audible—he was getting closer. Then, she heard the gate open. She looked up to find a tall man walking towards her. His skin shimmered like hidden scales, and his golden eyes burned like fire flakes, with its slit pupils cutting through it. His black hair gleamed like molten metal. He was handsome, so handsome—Elaina couldn't stop staring at him. As he approached her, her heartbeat fastened. When he was right in front of her, he crouched down, meeting her eye level. He had a stoic look on his face, never batting his eyelids. All of a sudden Elaina heard the cracking of wood. Her eyes widened as she looked down to find the harp crushed under his arm. "I hate music," He muttered, his voice deep and raspy, laced with a hint of disdain. Without saying anything else, he stood and walked away. Elaina was shocked. She watched as he walked back into the small gate. Then she frowned. She was furious. She stood up and walked through the gate. It was not as big as she thought. Bones lay scattered on the floor. She felt fear creep in, but pushed it away. She looked around, and found him at a corner, sitting on the floor. She hurried towards him and threw the broken harp next to him. The dragon was shocked. "Do you know that it costs a fortune?!" Elaina yelled at him. He pushed the harp away and picked up a bone covered with meat. He was about to take a bite when she slapped it away. "How dare you?!" He yelled at her as he stood. "No, how dare you?!" She screamed. He took a few steps back, confused and stunned. "Didn't your Mom ever teach you how to treat a woman?!" He stared at her with bewildered eyes, not knowing what to say. This was the first time in centuries that a human had treated him this way. Creasing his brows he looked from her to the broken harp. He smirked. "My Mom never taught me how to treat a human woman right," he said before sitting down. Elaina chuckled. "Then she should have, because right now, you are in a spot that only a human woman can get you out of." "What makes you think so?" She crouched down in front of him. "You may try to hide it, but I can see through your facade. The sweat breaking out on your temple, your weak pupils, your slow but heavy steps, it's written all over you. You are in a lot of pain because of your estrus period and you need help—" "—I will never mate with a human!" He yelled as he glared at her, cutting her off. She snickered. "Who said anything about mating?" He raised a brow at her, confused. "What do you mean?" She sighed. "I do not want to mate with you...I want to help you escape."EPILOGUE For days after the gathering, Drake remained silent as he watched the kingdom rebuild itself piece by piece. He watched everyone go about their daily activities with charisma and enthusiasm, happy to be free again. But even as peace spread, one question lingered within him and it was not whether he was needed or if they had forgiven him; he was very sure of that now. But instead what kind of role he was meant to play in a world that had already suffered under the weight of kings. So when he finally spoke, it was not in a council hall nor before the crowd that still gathered outside the palace gates. It was with Aurora and Elaina beside him.“I will not take the throne,” Drake started and they didn't interrupt, letting him speak about what he truly wanted. “If I rule as a king, it will feel like history repeating itself like thrones are the only answer to chaos and I do not want that. But I want to stand for this kingdom, not above it or over it…. For it.” Drake continued,
One week passed after Vaerik's death and the kingdom finally began to breathe again. The people were still in shock that it was really over. They had lived too long in fear that the lack of it felt unnatural but it was real.Vaerik was really gone and Drake was back.Across Skyrend Citadel and other parts of the dragon realm, the name of the true king spread like a healing fire. People rejoiced endlessly, they gathered in streets in groups to extend their voices toward the palace in gratitude and disbelief. It was seven days after the war and everyone was eager to see their saviour again but Drake remained in hiding, he was purposefully avoiding seeing the people. They gathered daily outside the palace gates only to return to their homes disappointed. Drake stayed within the inner halls of the palace, answering through messengers, giving vague responses, and stepping away whenever the topic of rulership was brought up.He did not feel like a king, not after everything that had been
Drake hit the ground hard trying to dodge the fire, his body slid across the floor before coming to a stop. His breathing was uneven, he couldn't dodge it and the fire had struck him in the same spot again.Where Vaerik’s dark fire had struck him, his dragon scales began to flake away completely charred this time. And the pain was unlike anything he had seen before, he felt his head was about to split into two.Elaina’s voice called out to him from her hiding, it was strained with fear and rage to see him like that, his pain ate into her too. “Drake… you need to get up! Get up and fight”She wanted to rush to his side but Vaerik’s presence kept her anchored in place.Vaerik laughed loudly in satisfaction as he took slow steps forward like a predator hunting his prey. “You thought you could taunt me and go scout free, well think again. So this is the king they had chosen, the great protector of dragons… the one they could wail for at his funeral… pathetic!,” he said mockingly.Drake f
The moment the signal was given to go, the sky was littered with warrior dragons. The army surged forward in formation as they flew straight to the Skyrend Citadel. Vaerik's men had already been notified and the war alarm sounded while they waited to receive the guests. Elaina held tight to Drake’s back, she was calm despite the chaos about to begin. Behind them, Aurora rode one of the warrior dragons, she looked sharp and focused as her eyes were already scanning for threats.Drake’s jaw tightened as he angled his flight higher. “Now,” he signaled sharply and the army answered.A group of dragons broke formation and dived toward the outer defenses of Skyrend Citadel. Then followed another group and another at different points of the capital just like they planned.Soon it was the last group with Drake, Elaina and Aurora and they flew swiftly to the heart of the capital where the throne Aerie was and Vaerik's castle. On getting there the group and Aurora began fighting the guards th
“I am with child.”Instantly, every trace of rage that had been coiled inside Drake dissolved like smoke in open air. The tension in his shoulders loosened and the fire in his chest went quiet. He stood stood there and stared at her for a while, his brain finding it hard to process a reaction.Elaina watched him nervously as he reaction didn't exactly give anything to work with, ”Drake, are you alright? You don't look…”She could finish her words because Drake pulled her in for a hug instantaneous. “Oh Elaina… you have just made me the happiest man in the world” he blurted out with a vulnerable and genuine tone that made her heart flutter and her knees feel weak. She smiled widely and hugged him back and they stayed in that position bursting with joy. Drake felt so giddy, her announcement echoed in his head so much that he didn't realise that he had tightened his hug with her. Elaina let out a small sound of protest, and he immediately loosened his grip, pulling back just enough to
The sky trembled and shook under the weight of wings. Drake flew at the front and behind him was a fearsome army that consisted of the red dragons from the Cradle of Flames, wyverns of the sky, and the forest drakes.Their force alone had people raise their heads at their numbers. Elaina sat firmly against Drake’s back, ready for the battle ahead with strong hope and determination. They all mirrored her feelings as well, the only option was coming out victorious. They decided that their camp ground was going to be the cradle of flames so a raven had already been sent for Aurora and Ryker to head there as well.Drake descended slowly on the familiar ruins, the damage was still there but the villagers had managed to clean up nicely so they had enough space to set their camp. The army flew down as well and they moved around smartly to set up tents or other basic amenities. Before Elaina could even steady herself fully, she saw her mother standing at the edge of the camp, her eyes search
The scream was coming from a woman running towards them frantically. She looked quite frightened and out of breath, everyone was on alert eager to know what the ruckus was all about.“Great warriors! Come quick, there has been an ambush in the market and everything is a mess, the people are terrifi
“Thank you but we are good” Elaina rejected the couple's offer with a polite smile. They were in an unfamiliar place with unfamiliar people, it was better to be safe than sorry.“No, I insist… at least have a few bites, you must be missing home cooked food” Mrs Butterworth said as she pulled us to
“This journey is going to be a long one. I think we will need another horse, Zane is too weak to carry both of us. We need more clothes and food too for the journey. But we have no money with us, what do we do?” Elaina said with a tired sigh as she watched Drake roast the rabbit they had caught in
Elaina could barely process why everyone was so quiet when the audience suddenly bursted into cheers and appreciation. They were all standing; some folks were shaking profusely while tears streamed down their faces, some cheered happily with wet eyes from unshed tears, and others held a solemn gaze
