LOGINWithout looking back, Elaina ran out of the tavern into the cold night, pulling her hood tight as she hurried through the empty streets. Her boots clicked on the cobblestones, the sound too loud in the silence.
She stuck to the shadows, moving quickly past the market square and into the narrow alley near the guest house. When she got there, she slipped inside and bolted the door. As usual, the guest house was empty. Every night, the residents always went out to get drunk and carry out some mischief. But most of them were girls who worked for Tyler at the tavern. They were only home in the daytime. Elaina continued, climbing the creaking stairs to her small room. Shutting the door firmly behind her, she turned to find a hooded girl with a pick ax raised in the air staring at her. "Arrrrgghhh!" They both yelled. "You scared me, Elaina?" The other girl muttered. "Scared you? Seriously Laura? You're the one with the man slaughtering weapon pointed at me!" Laura looked at the tool in her axe, and then they both ended up laughing. "I wasn't expecting anyone this early." "Same here." Elaina looked at the satchel on the bed. "I never saw you at the tavern today, Tyler isn't going to be happy about that." Laura noticed where Elaina was looking at. She crouched over, stuffing the rest of her clothes into the satchel. "I won't be here when he returns." Tears rolled down her eyes as she forced her clothes into the leather bag furiously. Elaina moved forward, holding her arm and pulling her up. "Hey." She held her cheeks, making Laura look at her. "What happened?" "He... Tyler... He found out about me and Nathan and had him..." She covered her mouth, sitting on the bed as a new wave of tears rolled down her eyes. "That bastard." Elaina sat next to her. "So where is Nathan now?" "He sold him off to the Groths. He sold him off to those... Cannibals," She muttered. "I can't stay here anymore, Elaina. I have to leave." "So where will you go?" Laura sniffled. "To the castle." Elaina was shocked. She couldn't help but chuckle. "People like us don't survive in that kind of world, Laura." "You mean someone like me. You are a talented, beautiful woman, you can survive anywhere." She wiped her tears. "But that's different because the King is searching for people like us now." Elaina gave her a questioning look. "What do you mean by that?" "The King is looking for brave ladies who would help him seduce the beast." She stood up and continued packing her bag. "To anyone who succeeds and ends up getting pregnant for it, she'll be given a huge reward and will be given a chance to stand before the King." Elaina remembered hearing Tyler and the Knight talk about a beast. But she didn't think the ladies had to seduce it. "What beast exactly?" "The dragon with the black scales." Elaina's eyes widened, her heart skipping a beat. "But hold on, how do they plan on seducing a dragon that flies around the world?" Laura paused, giving her a questioning look. "You don't know." "Know what?" "The dragon has been captured." *** "Strip," Xavier commanded the ladies. Step by step, they took off the layers of their dress. He raised his hands, pointing towards them. "Too chubby... Not enough flesh... Too tall... But you, you are perfect." The girl smiled. "Thank you, Mage." In less than an hour, she was washed, adorned, and taken to the dungeon. Xavier stopped at the gate before the stairs, handing the girl a torch. "From here onwards, you'll go on your own." The girl's eyes widened as she trembled. "You want me to go to him... On my own?" Xavier's brows creased. "Do you want me to go down, seduce the dragon, and get pregnant in your stead?" The girl shook her head. "No my Lord, just that... I didn't think I would go to meet him alone, and... And in the dark," She muttered. Xavier sighed. With his eyes closed he smacked his forehead lightly. "Listen." He looked at her. "The dragon is rather shy. He wouldn't want to be with you if someone else escorts you." "But... But I thought someone would..." "Listen, little Damsel, you better go down there, or the deal is off." *** (Few Minutes Later) "Useless! Useless! A bunch of women who cannot even make a dragon on heat fall for them. And the ones you think can are too scared to even go down the stairs! Such useless...beings!" The Mage exclaimed, pacing. He turned to the stripped girls standing by the corner. "Leave! Get out right this instant!" The girls scurried around, picking up their dresses and running away. When they left Xavier sat down. A hooded girl walked in stealthily, wrapping her arms around his neck. "You didn't tell me you were coming," he said as he leaned into the chair. "Do I now have to take permission from you before coming?" She moaned against his ears, running her tongue along his earlobe. She pushed her hands through his shirt, grabbing hold of his nipples, but he pushed them away. "If you do not have any news for me, then I suggest you leave. I do not have time for such frivolities," He commanded, but she didn't listen. She turned around, crouching down before him. "Well, I always have good news for you, but first, you have to let me please you." She pulled out his length, taking it into her mouth. Her lips ran up and down his skin. He moaned as he leaned in, finding her breast underneath her hood and dress. All of a sudden, the window flew open. Xavier jerked up from his seat, as he saw a woman jump in through the window. "Who are you?!" He questioned. The girl looked at him and smiled, pointing towards his exposed length. "I'm the one who won't tell everyone in the Kingdom about how the Mage was pleasuring himself in his room."Elaina stepped out of the small cabin, brushing her hair back as her eyes adjusted to the morning light. Then she saw Drake standing a few steps away, looking already dressed and prepared. She could tell there was something different about him so she approached him. “I noticed you didn’t sleep much last night.”“You are right, I didn't” he replied while avoiding her gaze. She frowned and asked, “Is everything alright, Drake?.”A brief silence followed before Drake spoke again. “I’m leaving.”She paused brushing her hair, clearly surprised, “Leaving to where?”“For Cradle of Flames today,” he added as he finally turned to look her in the eye. The determination in his eyes made her still.“Today?” she repeated, her brows drawing together. “But why the sudden rush?”Drake sighed “Because waiting is costing us more than we realize.” he answered. Elaina shook her head in disagreement, “But we’ve been waiting for the right moment…”“And what if that moment never comes?” Drake cut in, his t
Elaina hesitated, unsure of if it was appropriate to tell him what Ryker wanted a secret. Then she thought that it probably didn't matter anymore, she had already seen it. So she answered, “Drake…”“What is it?”“It’s Ryker… During our training, I found a huge weight of sadness in his mind, it was twice as huge compared to other emotions and worse still, he had built a wall around it to hide it”“Sadness? Wall? I don't understand, what does that mean?” Drake asked, more concerned now. Elaina sighed, “I tried to ask him about it but he was reluctant to answer and then I lost control and unintentionally forced him to tell me… he's been struggling badly with his farm…” She then proceeded to tell him everything in detail and the more she went on, the more Drake's frown deepened. “Your power… You can control memories and cause temporary hypnosis? Fearsome!” he commented, finding it hard to choose between being impressed or worried. Then he paused and looked in the direction that Ryker ha
Days passed too quietly, waiting had never been easy, but this kind that came before war felt heavier than most. So instead of letting it get to her, Elaina chose not to sit still. If she could not fight yet then she would prepare. The clearing behind the hideout had become their training ground, it was secluded and shielded by tall trees that kept wandering eyes away. So on that day, Elaina stood facing Ryker for training.Drake leaned against a nearby tree with his arms folded, watching quietly.“Again,” Ryker said, stepping back.Elaina nodded and she closed her eyes briefly, centering herself the way Drake had taught her and focusing on the energy around her. She had been using her free time to learn more about her dragon powers from Drake and Ryker, and it was during the early stages that she discovered that she had the power to delve into any dragon’s soul. She used a deep connection like she did with dragons at the tower back then, to enter into their consciousness and feel a
Skyrend Citadel no longer felt like home. It still stood tall, just as it always had, with it's towering walls that surrounded the city like Drake remembered. The walls did not change, not the buildings too or the street paths… but everything else was wrong.Drake stood at a distance cloaked in Aurora’s disguise and watched the day to say activity of the city. He did that everyday and he could tell, something was off. There was a darkness clinging to it now. Not the natural kind that came with the stormy night but something more sinister and it felt like it had seeped into its very foundation. He off course knew it had to be Vaerik's doing. How cruel could he be?Even from where he stood, he could feel it the tension and fear in the air. The people moved around while watching their backs and guards walked around like they were mini gods. They had become too aggressive and was ever ready to draw out their weapon against anyone who tried to oppose them. This was not the kingdom he had o
In the throne room of Vytharion, Vaerik leaned back against the his seat with one arm placed lazily over the armrest and his fingers tapping slowly against it. He was restless and trying so hard to contain it, he didn't want to lose himself over a small matter or let people see him so affected. The room was silent and yet it did nothing to quiet the anger and hatred inside him. But how could he stay still when his sworn enemy might be returning?Drake. The name alone felt like a thorn lodged deep beneath his skin.At first, he had dismissed the rumours of his return flying around. He thought it was just whispers carried by weak villagers clinging to hope like it could save them. He had heard foolish stories of fallen kings returning or saviors rising from nothing so he paid no heed and calculated that it would die soon. But he was wrong, the news kept spreading like wild fire. His name was everywhere, from the streets, to the guards and even his council. It irritated him greatly to
The kingdom had not seen celebration in a long while so everyone basked in it. Music played in the halls and candles were lit in every corner. Tonight was a different kind of celebration, it was for their heroes. Elaina stood at the edge of the hall as her eyes looked over the gathered crowd. There were Nobles, warriors and servants in attendance, everyone had come together out of gratitude to appreciate what Elaina and the others had done to bring back peace and equality to the kingdom and to send them off for their journey to Vytharion. “For someone who doesn’t like attention, you’re handling this quite well.” Drake commented as he stared at her with amusement in his eyes. They had walked in together and stopped to take the crowd in. Elaina glanced at him and rolled her eyes, “I’m enduring it,” she corrected. Drake smirked. “Same thing.” She shook her head though the corner of her lips lifted just a bit. Across the hall, Sachin had already made himself comfortable, a goblet i

Elaina had just quietly returned the scroll to Xavier's chambers and now it was time to move on to the next step of searching her old house from her childhood. She made sure to step out only after Xavier had left for his new alcoholic routine, she said to the guards by the gate, “I’ll be back soon,
Everyone fell silent and stood up to greet the king as he walked into the hall. Xavier stepped aside in surprise to see him, why would he show up now?Alfred ignored Xavier and everyone else, he had a blank look on his face as he sat on his throne. He paused for a few seconds with an unreadable exp
Drake was resting his head when the familiar scent of Elaina wafted through his nose. He was surprised because she had just left moments ago, this could only mean something was wrong. Elaina was quiet when she entered the cell and Drake noticed it immediately, he was by her side in seconds before
