Mag-log inBexley’s POV The ring felt heavier when I wore it into the dining room. It was a narrow gold band with a small round diamond. I chose it because I liked it, which seemed ridiculous when so much about the evening was something I wished I could avoid. Justin touched my elbow before we went inside. “You can still change your mind,” he said. “I know.” Dad noticed the ring before Magdalena did. His eyes moved from my hand to Justin’s face, and he smiled with the satisfaction of someone watching a plan work. “Well,” he said. “You two have something to tell us.” “We’re engaged,” Justin said. Magdalena got up so quickly that her chair scraped the floor. She hugged him, then came to me with both hands extended. Maxwell stood beside Dad, already talking about how pleased they were. I tried to smile properly. Justin stayed close enough that I didn’t have to face all of them alone. We invited my friends because I couldn’t bear making an announcement this important and letting them hear
Bexley’s POV I told Mom about Justin’s offer that evening. She listened without interrupting. When I finished, the silence lasted long enough that I checked whether the call was still connected. “Mom?” “I’m here. What do you want from this arrangement?” “Time. Some room to decide things without Dad turning every conversation into a wedding.” “Would Justin’s family understand that you aren’t planning to marry him?” “No.” “Then they’ll still expect a wedding.” “I know.” I sat against the headboard, looking at the scan pictures beside me. I could tell myself the engagement would solve everything, but my mother wouldn’t let me say it without asking what happened afterward. “And the babies?” she asked. I closed my eyes. “Dad can’t find out they’re Blake’s.” “Have you thought about what you’ll tell the people who love him?” “Asaf is trying to reach him too.” “That isn’t what I asked.” I rubbed my forehead. “I don’t know how to tell Asaf and keep it from everybody around him
Bexley’s POV Six weeks later, I was still taking my phone into rooms where I knew Blake wouldn’t call. I worked, paid the rent on my studio, and turned the campaign project into a monthly contract. I spoke to Mom whenever we could manage it and saw her twice through Sawyer’s arrangements. Dad spent part of that time away on business, which made it easier to avoid the dinners he kept suggesting. Blake remained in Italy, according to Israel. I heard that answer from Sawyer, from Asaf, and finally from Israel himself during a short call that left me with more questions than before. “Tell him I need to speak to him,” I said. “I’ll make sure he knows.” “Can you put him on the phone?” “Not right now.” There was always a reason it couldn’t happen right now. Asaf was angry too, which kept me from believing it was only me. That helped until I wondered why Blake could ignore his father and brother for this long. On the morning of my scan, I chose loose black pants and a green blouse. M
Bexley’s POV Dad was already at breakfast when I came downstairs the next morning. He put his phone beside his plate and smiled at me, and I remembered my mother sitting with my graduation pictures in her lap. I pulled out a chair before he could notice how long I was looking at him. “How was your meeting yesterday?” “Fine. The client approved the changes.” “That’s good.” He reached for his coffee. “Magdalena called. We should have dinner with them this weekend.” I spread butter over a piece of toast. “You can have dinner with your friends, Dad.” “They’re going to be your family.” I put the knife down. “Justin and I haven’t agreed to get married.” “You spend enough time together.” “Spending time with someone isn’t the same as agreeing to marry him.” He watched me over his cup. There was nothing unusual about the table, the food, or the way he sat across from me. That made it worse. I kept hearing Mom say he told her I was safe while refusing to tell her where I lived. “I’m
Bexley’s POV My mother kept hold of my hand while I told her about the appointment. “About six weeks,” I said. “That’s what the doctor thinks. I have a scan later.” “And the father?” “Blake.” She looked at me for a moment. “The man who helped me?” I nodded. “He’s in Italy. I haven’t been able to speak to him.” “Does he know?” “Not yet.” I explained the unanswered calls and the message his father received. Saying it made me feel foolish again. Here was a woman who lost years with her child, and I was crying because a man hadn’t called me for a few days. “He knows I need to tell him something important,” I said. “I’m glad you’ve seen a doctor.” She rubbed her thumb over my hand. “Is somebody helping you?” “My friend Justin came with me.” “Just a friend?” “Yes. Dad wants me to marry him, but that isn’t what I want.” Her expression changed. “Does your father know about the pregnancy?” “No.” She nodded slowly. “Give yourself time to think before you agree to anything.” I
Bexley’s POV My mother was standing beside a small sofa when I opened the door. She wore a blue blouse beneath a gray cardigan, and her hair was pulled back from her face. I recognized her from the photograph, but that didn’t prepare me for seeing her turn toward me. “Bexley.” She said my name so softly that I almost missed it. I stepped inside, and Sawyer closed the door behind me. For a moment, neither of us moved. Her eyes traveled over my face, then down to the envelope in my hand before returning to me. She lifted one hand, lowered it, and pressed her lips together. I knew that face. There were things about her mouth and eyebrows I’d seen in the mirror without knowing where they came from. “I’m sorry,” she said, wiping her cheek. “I thought I’d be able to say something.” I shook my head. I couldn’t find anything useful to say either. The questions I carried into the room were still there, but all I could think about was the space between us. “Mom?” Her face crumpled. “Yes
Bexley's POV Blake was supposed to be on his way to Italy. I was shocked to see him attend the Galla. What is happening? Did he change his mind or what? "Oh my God. Blake is here. How lucky can I get". A stupid bimbo screamed behind us and I tilted my head to the back to glare at her. Stupid woman.
Blake's POV After I listen to Bex. I was ecstatic. I wanted to be wrong about it. She is the only woman that has this much effect on me. Yet, I couldn't trust her because of a stupid picture. I got up immediately and walked to her. I took her hands in mine and pulled her up and cupped her face. She
It was fast and sudden. But it was also filled with emotions. As soon as he was satisfied. He drew away from her. His hands were still on her to steady her before he finally let her be. "You can sit down Bex". He said nonchalantly as if he hadn't just kissed her seconds ago. They both sat down acro
Bexley's POV I met my four maids down the foyer as I came out of the elevator. They welcomed me with a beautiful and charming smile which I returned. They were wearing a new maid uniform. And it looks nice on them. But if only they knew that they would not be wearing that thing again. I already or
