Nicole's POV

The city streets were a blur of gray under the heavy rain, droplets pelting the cab’s windshield with relentless rhythm. My bag rested on my lap as I leaned back, closing my eyes for a brief moment, trying to shake off the lingering stress from school. The soft hum of the engine and the steady wipers against the glass were almost hypnotic.

Then my phone buzzed against my thigh, vibrating insistently. I opened it to see Zara’s name lighting up the screen. Of course. My best friend always had impeccable timing.

> Nicole! Don’t forget — my birthday is in two days! And no excuses this year! It’s at Club Vortex, dress code sharp. You’re coming. You can bring Liam with you, also his hot brother can tag along. Got it?

I smirked at her message, tapping out a quick reply. Got it, Zara. I’ll be there. Don’t worry, I’ll get my dress ready.

I glanced up at the cab window, watching the raindrops streak and distort the neon lights of the city. Just as I was about to pocket my phone, t

Adrian’s POV The house was too quiet when I got back. Not the peaceful kind of quiet, the kind that made every sound louder in your head. I loosened my tie, then pulled it off completely, tossing it onto the console table without caring where it landed. My jacket followed. The silence pressed harder on my chest the farther I walked in. Clearly no one was home.I checked the living room first. Empty. The kitchen—clean, untouched. Upstairs? Same story. Every room looked perfect, neat, and lifeless. It irritated me more than I expected.I stood in the middle of the hallway, hands on my hips. For a second, I considered staying, pouring a drink and sitting with whatever mood had followed me home like a shadow but the thought made my skin crawl.I grabbed my phone instead. “Ethan,” I said the moment he answered, not bothering with greetings. “Get dressed.”There was a pause. Then a sigh. “That bad?”“I will be outside your apartment in ten minutes.” “You didn’t even ask—”“I’m not askin

  • TANGLED BETWEEN BROTHERS    Chapter Twenty-Nine

Nicole’s POVI was bent over one of Zara’s tables, trying to arrange sample cards by color when I felt a familiar presence. That strange feeling… like someone was watching me.I lifted my head and froze.Liam stood just a few steps inside the office, hands in his pockets, eyes already locked on me. For a second, my brain refused to catch up. I honestly thought I was imagining him. I didn't expect him to come here, although I purposely ignored his calls and messages.“Liam?” My voice slipped out before I could stop it.Relief flashed across his face, quick and raw, before he masked it with a small smile. “Hi.”Before I could say anything else, Zara appeared beside me like a storm. “Oh no,” she said sharply, stepping in front of me. “You.”Liam blinked. “Zara—”“Don’t ‘Zara’ me,” she snapped, folding her arms. “If you’re here to mess with her head, you can turn around right now.”I reached for her arm. “Zara—”She ignored me completely. “Do you have any idea what she’s been dealing with

Anna stepped into the house with a bright smile. “Good morning family.” She echoed loudly.“And where the hell have you been?” Her father cut her off.“Relax Dad, I have good news for us.” She chuckled.“What could that be?” Her mother interjected.Anna sat with her legs crossed elegantly, the corner of her mouth curved in a satisfied smile as she placed her phone on the glass table. The room smelled faintly of expensive perfume and freshly brewed coffee.“It’s done,” she said calmly. Her father looked up, his sharp eyes narrowing slightly. “Done how?”“The partnership,” Anna replied, leaning back against the couch. “They accepted it. The board approved it.”There was a brief pause. Then her father set the document that was on his lap aside, folding his hands. “Accepted doesn’t mean secured. Who negotiated on their end?”“Liam,” she said smoothly. “Just like we planned.”Her mother, seated beside her, straightened immediately. “I knew it,” she said with a pleased hum. “I told you she

  • TANGLED BETWEEN BROTHERS    Chapter Twenty-Seven

Nicole’s POVZara’s workplace was busy, music playing low in the background as her workers moved around, arranging things and checking lists. I sat on a stool near the counter, watching Zara pace back and forth with her phone in hand.Zara suddenly stopped and turned to me. “Okay. Enough.”I blinked. “Enough of what?”“Enough of that face,” Zara said, pointing at me. “You’ve been quiet since morning.”I looked away. “It’s nothing.”Zara scoffed. “Nicole, please. I know you too well.” She dropped her phone on the table and crossed her arms. “What happened between you and Adrian?”My heart skipped. “Why would you ask that?”Zara raised an eyebrow. “Because I can and I'm curious.”I hesitated, my fingers tightening around my clothes. “It was just… awkward.”“Awkward how?” Zara pressed, stepping closer.I sighed. “There was a moment. That’s all.”Zara’s eyes widened. “A moment moment?”“Zara!” l hissed, glancing around.Zara grinned.I rubbed her forehead. “We kissed and his hands went un

  • TANGLED BETWEEN BROTHERS    Chapter Twenty-Six

Nicole’s POVI stayed quiet for a while after that, letting the comfort sink in. Zara didn’t rush me. She never did. She just sat there with me, thumb brushing absent circles over the back of my hand like she was anchoring me to the moment.Eventually, I straightened, wiping my face and taking a steady breath. “I don’t want to go back there today,” I said.Zara looked at me carefully. “The house?”I nodded. “Not yet. I just… I need to be around someone who feels normal. Somewhere that doesn’t feel like I’m constantly holding my breath.”She tilted her head. “So what are you thinking?”I hesitated for half a second, then said it. “I want to come to work with you.”Her eyebrows lifted. “Work-work?”“Yes,” I replied quickly, before I could overthink it. “I don’t want to sit alone and spiral. I don’t even care what I do. I’ll help you set up, run errands, carry things—anything. I just don’t want to be stuck in my head.”Zara studied my face, like she was checking whether this was impulse

  • TANGLED BETWEEN BROTHERS    Chapter Twenty-Five

Nicole’s POVI couldn’t stay in that house another minute. The silence was too loud. Every corner felt heavy with things unsaid, questions unanswered. So I grabbed my bag, slipped on my shoes, and left without telling anyone where I was going, although the housekeeper saw me. Zara’s place was close, and it was still too early for her to be at work. I needed her noise, her warmth, her honesty. The cab dropped me off just as the sun fully rose. I didn’t bother knocking. Zara had given me a spare key months ago, insisting I use it anytime I needed her. Anytime, she’d said. This counted. I unlocked the door quietly and stepped in.But I froze the moment I looked around. Clothes were scattered across the living room like casualties of a war, jacket on the chair, shoes kicked off near the couch, Zara’s dress hanging halfway off the armrest. My brain barely had time to process it before I looked up.Zara was on the couch, so also was the man. Very naked infact. I was very sure that this gu
