Zachary POV

My head felt like it was splitting in half.

I woke up gasping for air, clutching my skull as a violent pain pounded against my temples. The room spun wildly, making me feel like I was strapped to a runaway roller coaster. I stumbled out of bed, staggering down the hallway of the estate, and threw open the bedroom door where Mina was sleeping.

"Mina!" I groaned, gripping the doorframe. "Wake up. Something's wrong. My head—it feels like it's going to cave in."

Mina stirred, rolling ov

I hope they don’t let Mina escape. Hopefully Zach helps them find Mina and her father as well they are all deep into the cult. Thru them hopefully they can nab few more Meridian folks and maybe put an end to this awful cult

Charlie POVI stood near the doorway of the master bedroom, looking down at Zachary as he lay paralyzed on the mattress. He was deteriorating rapidly. The broken Meridian anchor was damaging his body from the inside, and there was little time left before the damage became irreversible. Sweat covered his forehead, his skin had turned gray, and each breath came with a harsh rasp. He might have been an asshole, but right now, he was a dying man trapped in the consequences of his mother's dark magic. I wasn't sure he'd survive the week.He had asked to see Veronica.Over the past few weeks, watching her recover had made me realize how much I cared about her. I looked forward to seeing her, worried whenever I heard she was struggling, and found myself thinking about her long after I'd left. But I couldn't ignore the fact that she was still recovering from everything she'd endured.I didn't want to pull either of us into another complicated relationship. I'd already been through enough roma

My head—it feels like it's going to cave in."Mina stirred, rolling over with an irritated sigh. "What is your problem, Zachary? Let me sleep. We need our rest.""I'm not joking," I panted, wiping cold sweat from my forehead. "I feel sick. Burning up."She climbed out of bed, glaring at me. "You're just panicking because of the tribunal. Stop acting like a coward. Drink this, calm your nerves, and go back to bed."She poured a glass of murky water from a pitcher on her nightstand and shoved it into my hand.I swallowed a large gulp. The second the liquid hit my to

Alexander POVI stood strapped to the gurney in front of Elizabeth’s headstone, my lungs straining against the air.One of the Root Daughters stepped beside me. "Do not look directly at the gravestone, Alexander. Say Elizabeth's name once. Tell her to leave you alone. If you feel a sudden pull, stay standing. They will try to scare you, but you are stronger than whatever they throw at you."My eyes flicked between the Daughter and the mound of dirt. I didn't understand how a dead woman was supposed to hurt me. A thought crossed my mind. What if she clawed her way out of the dirt and attacked me? I wasn't someone who spooked easily, but standing on cursed ground made my skin crawl.Alpha Cameron stepped up beside me. "She is dead, Alexander. The dead have no power unless the living hand it over. Stand firm until they break the curse."I kept my mouth shut, swallowing hard. The Daughters held a stone bowl filled with water and white chalk. They handed me a small cup of water mixed with

"What's with that dreamy smile?" Anita asked, throwing a duvet over my feet. The couch in the sitting room had become my favorite spot."What do you mean?" I said, feeling my cheeks flush as I tried to deny that I was smiling."Don't do that." She wagged her finger at me. "Since we returned from the hospital, you've been wearing that wistful smile.""I can't help it," I said, chuckling as she sat beside me. Her nearness made me blurt out the truth. "I just can't believe he's awake. And he told me he loved me."She let out a fake gag, as though the word *love* were an abomination. "Well, I get that, but smiling this much is starting to look weird," she said, even though she was smiling too.We settled into a comfortable silence as she muted the movie playing in the background."So what happens when all this is over? Have you thought about it?" she asked.I managed a shrug. "I haven't really had the time to." I knew she was referring to the obvious next steps, the peace after the storm.

Emma POV "A light massage around the chest wall might help relieve some of his pain and also prevent him from locking his ribs in place."I hung on to Doctor Harry's every word as Wesley and I stood near the station outside Alexander's room. Occasionally, I turned to observe the two root Daughters standing on either side of his bed. There was no sound other than the steady beeping of Alexander's heart monitor."He woke up on his own," I said to Doctor Harry, peeling my gaze off Alexander. "That has to mean his body is fighting it off.""Of course," Doctor Harry said. "But he's in so much pain, and we can't overstretch or assume he's healthy enough yet."He gave Wesley a pat on the shoulder before heading inside. Wesley, who had been giving me a weird look, now smirked down at me."Now that your mate is awake," he said, exaggerating the word ‘mate’, "maybe you can stop blowing up my phone every twenty minutes and let me have at least one good night."I rolled my eyes. "It's not over.

Alexander POVMy body felt like it was buried under wet concrete and refused to answer the signals my brain tried to send. A metallic taste coated my tongue. I hated it. It seemed to leech into my blood, leaving a burn in the back of my throat.I tried to lift my right arm, but it was dead weight, completely unresponsive against the mattress.Panic spiked through my chest. I forced my attention downward, shifting my left hand instead. My fingers twitched, catching on the hospital sheets.I forced my eyelids open. The harshness of the fluorescent lights stabbed at my eyes, causing me to wince.A sweet scent, one I'd recognize even if I were thrown into the darkest pits, hit me.My mate.Emma was slumped over the edge of the mattress, her forehead resting near my hand. Seeing her in that uncomfortable position made my heart flutter and made me wonder how long we had been here.Hours? Days at most?My fingers brushed against the loose strands of her hair. She stirred, making me instantly

The wooden floor of the community center felt cold beneath my sandals.“I’ll volunteer.”A girl in the back row let out a loud snort. Beside me, Sasha’s hand clamped onto my wrist, her fingers digging into my skin to pull me back down. I did not look at her. I knew that if I met her eyes, the logic
