Ava's pov

The dream started the way all nightmares did, it was too quiet, too still.

I was standing in a vast, endless void of nothing, the ground swirling with black mist that stretched as far as my eyes could see. The air was thick, suffocating and laced with the smell of evil and death.

Every breath I took felt heavier, as if the air was pressing against my chest. I tried to find my bearings but there was nothing. No ground beneath my feet, no sky above me. Just endless black stretching in every direction.

A shiver ran down my spine.

Something was wrong.

I turned slowly, my heartbeat picking up. I was alone.

Or so I thought.

Suddenly, a deep, dark voice broke the silence.

"Did you really think you could escape me, little moon?"

My entire body went rigid.

That voice.

I knew it.

I had fought it. Resisted it. Ripped my magic away from his grasp. And yet, somehow, I was here again, back in the abyss of Zerathos' world.

I clenched my fists, my heart pounding in my chest as I summoned ev

Ava's povI clenched my teeth, forcing my eyes open, forcing my body to resist.“You don’t control me,” I hissed.Zerathos frowned, his grip tightening. “Why fight, Ava? You were born from the dark.”“I was reborn in the light.”I gathered every ounce of willpower I had left and shoved against him.A crack of golden light burst between us, making him stagger back. The shadows around me recoiled.I gasped, stumbling backward, my body still shaking from the darkness he had poured into me.Zerathos scowled, his gold eyes burning with irritation. “This isn’t over, little goddess.”I turned and ran.The darkness shifted around me, grabbing at my heels.Zerathos’ roar shook the void. “You can’t escape me!”My feet pounded against the nothingness, my lungs burning.I had to wake up.Had to get out.I saw something up ahead, a light in the abyss. I reached for it with every strength in my body. Then, just as zerathos reached me—I woke up.****My body shot upright, my breath ragged, my skin

Ava's povThe morning air was nice as usual stepped onto the balcony of our chamber, the familiar sound of Blackthorn castle stirring as the servants and guards alike started their daily activities. But something felt… off.I exhaled slowly, watching as my breath fogged in front of me. I had a hard time falling asleep after the nightmare last night, I barely managed to close my eyes again and before I knew it, it was dawn. Even now, the memory of Zerathos voice kept replaying in my thoughts like a plague that refused to go.You’re already mine, Ava.A shiver ran down my spine. I shook my head, gripping the stone railing at the thought. It was just a dream, I told myself. He isn't here, he can't be here. But deep down, I wasn’t convinced.Because something had changed. The shadows around me were moving in an unnatural way. At first, I thought it was just a trick for my eye but I kept seeing it.I frowned, turning my gaze to the corner of the balcony where the morning light hadn't touch

Ava's povWe gathered in the hidden chamber later that night. The council as well as our friends were with us and even Darius that I hadn't had time to check up on in a while.“This isn’t just a physical battle anymore,” I told them. “Zerathos is trying to worm his way inside my head, and I need to stop him before it’s too late.”Elder Maris folded her arms. “And how do you propose we do that?”I turned to the shelves, scanning the endless scrolls. “There has to be something here. Some kind of warding spell. A way to purge his influence from me completely.”Xander crossed his arms. “We won’t leave this chamber until we find it.”Everyone got to work.Books were pulled from shelves, scrolls unraveled, pages turned at a furious pace. The weight of the moment weighed down on everyone. I could still feel the shadows shifting around me, but I refused to let them consume me. Their effect had lowered ever since we got into the chamber but I could feel the shadows outside the chamber calling

Ava's povThe castle had never felt so empty. Two days had passed since I walked out of the war room, leaving the others to argue amongst themselves about whose life would be sacrificed. Since then, I have kept to myself, drowning in my own thoughts. No one had come to find me.Not Xander. Not Rowan. Not Kaida. Not Vanessa. Not Damian. Not Lyra. Not Kael. Not even my father or mother.I should have been relieved. I had wanted the space. I had needed the time to think. But now, as I sat on the window seat of Xander’s chamber, staring out at the snow-covered courtyard below, I wasn’t so sure anymore. The year was coming to an end. It was hard to believe that so much time had passed. It felt like time flew too fast and went too slow at the same time. With everything going on, it felt like I had been here for over ten years and not just a war.A lot has changed since I got selected, some for the better and some for the worst.I sighed, running the current problem through my head a thousan

Ava's pov“Are you ready?” Xander asked, his voice soft and touch gentle as he grabbed my hand.I couldn't speak so I gave him a nod then with that, we all left the war room and headed to the dungeon. The dungeon smelled like damp stone, blood, and rot.As we walked further into it I shivered due to the eerie feelings it gave me. The torches on the wall flickered, making the shadows move and claw at me.I squeaked as one touched me, making me press myself closer to Xander who wasted no time in wrapping his arms around me and shielding me from the shadows. The walls seemed to be closing in on me , making me feel claustrophobic. The stench of sweat and unwashed bodies clung to the air, thick and suffocating. The rogues had been locked away for weeks but they refused to crack after the first one did a few weeks ago.Not once. Not under interrogation. Not under the threat of death. They remained firm and loyal to Zerathos. That was why we had chosen one of them. And yet, as I approached t

Ava's povAs soon as the dagger went into the rogue's chest, a bright golden light filled the forge and then a deafening boom echoed through the chamber, it was so loud that it even shook the foundation of the castle. The golden glow became brighter with each second, the air cracked with raw, unfiltered power. The rogue let out a strangled gasp, his body arching against his restraints. His eyes, which had been burning with defiances and mockery a few seconds ago, were now filled with a strong sense of fear. The veins beneath his pale skin darkened, twisting like ink and shadows trying to crawl out of his flesh. His red blood turned black and began to bubble out of the wound in his chest like it was boiling. The eerie sound of sizzling filled the chamber and an unnatural shadow slithered out of his body, withering and screaming as it moved.“No—!” the rogue choked out but it was too late. The forge had claimed him as a sacrifice. The golden energy surged forward towards the rogue, movi

Ava's povI sat on the edge of the war table, tracing patterns into the wood with my fingertips. My mind was racing with plans and ideas but one thought stood out above the rest.We needed a map. Not just any map but the map of zerathos hideout.Turning to Xander, I took a deep breath. “We have spies inside, right?”He nodded, leaning against the table with his arms crossed. “Yes, why?”“We need them to make a map of the hideout and deliver it to us.” I said.“That is crazy, we all know that they can only pass information in fragments. Anything too big or else they will risk getting exposed.”“Then tell them to take the risk.”His eyes darkened slightly, his jaw tightening. “Ava—”“We need a map of that stronghold, Xander. It's important.” I pressed. “Every hallway, every entry and exit, every weak point. If we’re going to take Zerathos down, we have to know what we’re walking into.”Xander exhaled, rubbing a hand down his face. “It’ll take time.”“I know. But we have to start now.”H

Ava's povThere was a first line of message which read:“We heard zerathos saying some things to the higher members of the shadow council and wrote it down word for word.”Shadow council? What? Then came zerathos words, “You think you know war. You think this is just a battle of swords and blood. But you are blind. We have done more than build an army—we have awakened horrors from the past. Creatures that once roamed the darkest corners of this world now serve our cause. You will not fight soldiers. You will fight nightmares. You may prepare your weapons, your warriors, your magic. It won’t be enough. By the time the final battle arrives, Lycara will already be drowning in blood.Run if you wish. Beg the gods for mercy. It will not save you.”A chill ran through me.I lifted my gaze to the others. “They’re using more than just rebels and rogues. They’ve summoned monsters.”“Creatures,” Lyra corrected. She pointed to the bottom of the letter. “There’s a list.”I flipped to the next pag

Ava's povThe wind howled softly against the window, it was odd but it was like a lullaby whispered in an ancient tongue. Xander had fallen asleep hours ago, his breathing deep and even beside me. His arm was draped protectively over my waist, warm and grounding, as if even in slumber he was guarding the world he’d sworn to protect. But I couldn’t sleep. Not tonight. The baby, Rowan, was stirring more than usual. Little flutters and firm nudges beneath my skin, like he was restless too or sensing something beyond the veil of reality. I closed my eyes, fingers spread across the curve of my belly, and whispered a silent promise into the dark.“I’ll always protect you, little one.”The world tilted. It started slowly, like I was falling into still water. The bed, the room, the warmth of Xander’s body all faded away like early morning mist. I wasn’t afraid. Instead, an overwhelming calm settled over me, thick and heavy, the kind of calm that whispers of someone celestial. And then I stood

Ava's povThe celebration had ended hours ago, but the warmth still lingered in my body. The lanterns had gone out. The laughter and footsteps had faded. Kaida and Lyra had walked us back to the castle gates, cheeks glowing from too much dancing and cider. The moon was high now, very bright silver light watching from its throne in the sky as if it too had awaited this final part of the night. Our chambers were quiet, save for the occasional crackle from the fireplace. I was dressed in one of Xander’s tunics, hair damp from a quick rinse, and settled against the high pile of furs and pillows in our bed. My fingers rested gently on my belly.Xander came out from the mini kitchen attached to his chamber, barefoot, shirtless, hair tousled, with two steaming mugs in hand. He handed one to me and dropped onto the bed with a soft grunt.“Ginger and honey,” he said. “Kaida’s secret cure for growing royal pups.”I smiled at him. “If it works, I’ll personally carve her name into a throne.”We s

Ava's povThe air buzzed with excitement.Golden rays of the sun spilled through the leaves above as the clearing beside the Moonstone Falls which glowed with enchantment.I had never seen the sun so bright, it was as if all the gods were watching closely to see what would be revealed today.Long, linen banners fluttered from tree branches, dyed in the traditional white and silver hues of blessing rituals. It was a sacred spot—where our ancestors once received visions from the Moon Goddess herself—and it felt like the perfect place for today. My gender reveal.Or as the werewolves called it: The Spirit Beckoning.Kaida had explained it days ago while wrapping my waist in white silk, her eyes shining with pride as she narrated the ancient tradition.I wasn't surprised that she knew so much because the nightshade warriors were known for holding on to our history very tightly, they even knew far more than even blackthorn but only shared why they deemed necessary.“When a pup grows strong

  • THE ALPHA'S FORBIDDEN MATE    Chapter 131

Ava's povThe day had started like any other. There were meetings with the inner council, light bickering over the upcoming full moon festival, and more parenting advice— that I didn't ask for— than I could keep up with. My mind felt full, my ankles were sore, and despite how much I adored everyone’s excitement, all I wanted was silence, a soft place to lie down, and maybe a jar of pickled mangoes.Xander had been called away to handle a little rogue situation near the southern border, and although I tried not to worry, being apart from him—even just for a few hours—tugged at something inside me.Even after the war,.rogues would still be spotted from time to time. They weren't threatening and tended to run away at the sight of us. They just wandered aimlessly but we had underestimated them once and didn't want to make the same mistake twice. He’d been protective ever since we found out about the baby, even more so since I’d started showing a few weeks ago. My bump was still small, but

Ava's povI always thought pregnancy would feel magical. Glowing skin, cute bump, a sense of purpose, maybe even that mythical "pregnancy glow" everyone swore existed.Instead, it felt like I was being hunted… by my own body.“Move,” I growled at Xander, who stood directly between me and the basket of moonberry tarts I’d been craving since sunrise and asked the cooks to make.He turned slowly, blinking. “You’ve already had three.”I narrowed my eyes. “And?”“And… I love you,” he said quickly, stepping aside and lifting both hands like I was some scary creature.Which I kind of was.Pregnancy had changed me. It was like I had become Ava 2.0—crying over songs with puppies, getting irrationally upset when Xander didn’t refill the honey jar, then five minutes later curling against him like nothing ever happened. The mood swings weren’t just real. They were ruthless. The moonberry tart was cold by the time I got to it, but I didn’t care. I devoured it with all the speed of a starved animal

  • THE ALPHA'S FORBIDDEN MATE    Chapter 228

Xander’s POVThe moonlight spilled through the open balcony, casting soft silver over the sheets tangled at the foot of the bed. The fire in the hearth had died a while back, quiet and tired like the rest of the castle. The day has taken an unexpected turn which I loved so much. A twist that made my heart race and a smile light up my face. She was asleep.Ava.My mate. My Luna. My light. Her hair was fanned across the pillow, her face relaxed and peaceful—something I never took for granted anymore. I didn’t move, just sat at the edge of the bed, eyes watching the delicate rise and fall of her chest. Her unexpected words echoed in my head like a metal being hit by something. She’s pregnant. It should have been a simple announcement. But for me, it cracked something wide open. For weeks, I’d noticed something different in her scent. Not wrong—just new. I hadn’t placed it, not until she stood before me and told me herself. There had been no grand preparation. No expectations. Just her an

Ava's povSunlight spilled through the high windows of the grand hall, gleaming on the silver fixtures and dishware. For the first time in months, the hall wasn't empty. Laughter echoed all around me, mingling with the clinking of cutlery and the smell of warm bread and honeyed meats.I sat between Xander and Vanessa, my fingers curled around a steaming cup of tea. My stomach fluttered—not from nerves, but from something far newer. Something growing. The thought never failed to pull a smile to my face.I glanced around at the faces gathered at the table. Rowan was teasing Kael over a burnt piece of toast, Kaida sat beside him, her hand resting lightly on his wrist. Lyra was at the far end, wrapped in a thick shawl, her expression quiet but calm, a faint smile playing on her lips as she watched them. There was no tension in her shoulders. They were all here. All of them. And that meant more to me than any feast ever could.“Gods,” Vanessa said, stretching back in her seat. “It’s been f

Ava's povThe morning sunlight filtered in through the tall windows, casting soft golden glow across the stone walls of our chambers. The fire from last night had burned down to glowing embers, but I still felt warm—safe in the memory of the stars and the enormity of the secret I’d carried all night.I smiled, rubbing my tummy even though it didn't have a bump. It all still felt like a dream to me. I couldn't believe that I was carrying my child— out child— and would soon be able to hold him or her in my arms. This was like a reward from the gods for taking down zerathos. It was the most perfect gift.Xander’s scent hit me before I heard his footsteps. Woodsy. Earthy and a hint of citrus. He pushed the door open with ease, stridijg in, he was already halfway out of his ceremonial coat, his black shirt clinging to his chest beneath it. His eyes found me immediately—still seated at the edge of the bed, half-dressed, barefoot, lost in my thoughts.“There you are,” he said, his voice soft

Ava's povPregnant. The word sat on my tongue like a secret not yet ready for the world to know. Heavy and new. Sacred. My hands trembled as I exited the healer’s wing, the soft glow of lanterns lining the path doing little to light the darkness within me.It wasn't a bad darkness, it was just confusion. The corridor behind me felt like it belonged to another world—a place of certainty and whispered truths. Healers always knew things, some that we wanted to hear and the ones that we didn't want to hear. Out here, beneath the dark sky things felt more real.Too real.I walked slowly, aimlessly, not ready to return to the castle after what I had just learned. Not ready to face anyone. Especially not Xander. Not yet.The gardens were quiet this time of night. Peaceful. A hush had settled over the grounds, as though the very earth was holding its breath. The petals of Kaida’s cherry blossom tree glowed pale pink in the moonlight, and I found myself drawn toward it. Toward the spot we alwa
