Xander’s POV

I was still trying to wrap my head around everything.

A week.

We had been gone for an entire week. The keeper's warning about the elders rang in my head, I had always known that they couldn't be fully trusted and this has solidified my decision on that.

A lot rested on my shoulders now, taking care and protecting Ava, handling the issue with the rouges, finding the traitors in the castle, being cautious around the elders, destroying the human rebellion and finding out who this dark god was so I could help Ava.

I looked up at her. She was lost in thoughts just like I was. Even if the world around us was on fire, she would always ground me.

“We need a plan.” I said, breaking the silence.

She looked up and nodded. “What type of plan?”

“First, we need to make sure that we maintain control over the pack at all costs. A divided pack would fall before the war even begins. The rogues are watching us, they are waiting for a sign of weakness to latch onto and bring us down.”

  • THE ALPHA'S FORBIDDEN MATE    Chapter 60

Xander's povThe council had summoned me yet again. The air was thick with tension as I stood before them. Their cold and calculating gaze burned into me.I maintained a neutral expression and clasped my hand behind me, back straight as I started back at them. Leo growled, he was seething deep in me. It was a struggle to contain him.“Alpha king Xander.” Elder Thane began. “You suddenly disappeared for over a week and threw not just your pack but the entire Kingdom into a frenzy as they relentlessly searched for you. Do you care to explain your sudden disappearance?”He tried to look and sound intimidating but he looked like a pup. “I left to go investigate a recent rogue activity I had spotted near the borders.” U answered calmly. “It needed to be handled with utmost discretion and secrecy which is why I didn't tell anyone because I couldn't risk a word of it getting leaked and jeopardizing everything I had planned.”Elder Maris scoffed, I turned to her and saw her eyes were narrowed

Xander's povThe oracle stood by the door. This was unlike her, she doesn't leave her cottage unless summoned. The room fell into hushed silence as we all watched her walk to the front of the room.“Thane, Garrick and Maris.” She started. “You will not lay a finger on a single hair on that child's head.” She ordered.“Or-oracle.” Garrick stuttered giving her a bow. “What brings you here? This is a simple matter.”“It is not a simple matter. It is far greater than every single one of us in this room— and the realm as a whole.” She said, “Leave Ava alone.”“Why?” Maris snapped. “Ever since that human stepped foot in this castle things have changed and not for the better. Take a look at Xander, he hurt his own people and has been slacking in his duties.”“The wheel of fate has been spun, everything is now set into motion. Many threads of destiny have been knotted together, a story that cannot be undone has been made. Each choice and action taken henceforth, is a step closer to the inevit

Xander's povI ran my fingers through my hair, my hands trembling slightly.“That’s the reason why my father hates me,” I said, my throat tightening. “It’s not just because I remind him of my mother or because he thinks I’m weak. It’s because he blames me for her death.”Ava’s brows furrowed in confusion. “But you said that she died from childbirth complications after the rogue attack. How could that be your fault?”I let out a dry laugh, it sounded hollow and filled with pain. I regret everything that happened till this day, her death would forever haunt me.I let out a bitter laugh, the sound hollow and filled with pain. “Because I was the reason she was in the forest that day. I begged her to come with me.”Her eyes widened, and I could see the shock and sympathy warring within her.“It was a beautiful summer day,” I said, my voice distant as my mind flashed back to the memory. “The sun was shining, the air was filled with the scent of jasmine and lavender— my mother's favorites af

Xander’s POVI watched as her chest rose and fell asleep. She slept peacefully. She had exhausted herself while comforting me.I brushed a piece of her hair away from her face before standing up and walking to the door. I wasn't sure if she'd appreciate me being there when she woke up so it was best for me to leave.Casting one last glance at her sleeping figure, I opened the door and walked out. Today had been mentally draining, I didn't have the energy to focus on pack work so I quickly had dinner then went to bed.The next day….The sun has just begun to rise, peaking about the horizon, bathing the castle and the pack grounds with its golden glow. I stood on my balcony, looking at the view before me and thinking about my plans for the day.Everything Ava did for me the day before still lingered in my mind. She deserved something special, she has given me much more than I have ever given her. She was a treasure that I was lucky to have been blessed with. So, I decided to take her to

Xander's pov)We spent the rest of the morning eating, talking, laughing, and sharing childhood memories. Ava told me a lot about her childhood—her favorite memories, her struggles, and the little things that made her happy. I made sure to note every single detail down in my mind.“I used to climb trees all the time,” she said, her voice filled with nostalgia and eyes distant as she transported back to the period of the memory, mentally. “There was this one tree in the village square that was taller than all the others. Everyone always wondered how it managed to thrive so well in the harsh climate, I guess it was just determined to survive at all cost.”“Just like you. You're the bravest person I know.” I said. She blushed again. “Anyway, one day my friends dared me to climb it, and of course, I couldn’t back down from such a challenge. I climbed it despite how difficult it was, I made it to the top, but then I couldn’t get down.”I laughed, imagining a younger version of Ava stuck at

Xander’s pov“Alpha!” I heard Magnus yell from a distance, I turned and saw him sprinting toward me, his face grim.“How did this happen?” I demanded.Magnus stopped in front of me, breathing heavily. “It was an attack. A bomb—one unlike anything we have ever seen before. It went off near the southern border, but it was so powerful that the shockwave reached here.”“A bomb?” Ava asked, stepping forward.Magnus glanced at her briefly before nodding. “Yes. The damage is worse near the border. Some of our warriors and pack members… they didn’t make it.”I clenched my fingers into a fist at his words. Through the pack bond I could feel some people snap as they died and the pain of their families. Each death was like a stab to my chest, literally, that was one of the burdens alpha kings had to bear. They would feel pain for each member of lycara who does.“Who's responsible for this?” I asked.Magnus hesitated, his jaw tightening. “We don’t know yet but we caught a trail of rogue scent nea

Xander's povAva and I decided to walk through the borders now that the rogues had been dealt with. We wanted to see the extent of the injuries and how many we had lost. The southern border which was once a place filled with happiness and love as people went about their day and children played. It was now a graveyard, one filled with memories and death.A young bloody warrior walked towards us, arm wrapped in bandages that were soaked with his blood. His face was pale and his breathing sounded laboured, he was in severe pain. Ava immediately rushed over to his side and placed a hand on his shoulder to help him walk better. He looked surprised at her assistant and was a bit apprehensive because she was human. He remained rooted to his spot. “Let me help, please.” Ava said upon noticing his hesitance. Her voice was calm and welcoming. The warrior shook his head. “I'm fine…” he didn't know what to address her as, he winced as he tried to move out from her hold. The sight both warmed my h

Xander's pov)“So right now, our top priority is to locate their hideout— the center of all their operations.” I continued. “We also believe that the rogues may be working with someone, we have to find out who has joint forces with the rogues.”They nodded.“They’ve managed to evade us for too long, but that ends now. I want every resource at your disposal to be used to track them down. Follow every lead, no matter how small. Leave no stone unturned.”One of the enforcers, a tall man with a scar that ran across his eye named Kael, stepped forward. “Alpha, we’ve already begun gathering as much information as we can get our hands on. There are whispers of rogue activity near the eastern mountains, but nothing concrete yet.”“Then make it concrete,” I said firmly. “Send scouts, interrogate prisoners, do whatever it takes. I want their location as soon as possible.”“Yes, Alpha,” Kael said. “There's something else ““Speak.” I ordered.“We believe that the humans and rogues have joined fo

Ava's povThe wind howled softly against the window, it was odd but it was like a lullaby whispered in an ancient tongue. Xander had fallen asleep hours ago, his breathing deep and even beside me. His arm was draped protectively over my waist, warm and grounding, as if even in slumber he was guarding the world he’d sworn to protect. But I couldn’t sleep. Not tonight. The baby, Rowan, was stirring more than usual. Little flutters and firm nudges beneath my skin, like he was restless too or sensing something beyond the veil of reality. I closed my eyes, fingers spread across the curve of my belly, and whispered a silent promise into the dark.“I’ll always protect you, little one.”The world tilted. It started slowly, like I was falling into still water. The bed, the room, the warmth of Xander’s body all faded away like early morning mist. I wasn’t afraid. Instead, an overwhelming calm settled over me, thick and heavy, the kind of calm that whispers of someone celestial. And then I stood

  • THE ALPHA'S FORBIDDEN MATE    Chapter 132

Ava's povThe celebration had ended hours ago, but the warmth still lingered in my body. The lanterns had gone out. The laughter and footsteps had faded. Kaida and Lyra had walked us back to the castle gates, cheeks glowing from too much dancing and cider. The moon was high now, very bright silver light watching from its throne in the sky as if it too had awaited this final part of the night. Our chambers were quiet, save for the occasional crackle from the fireplace. I was dressed in one of Xander’s tunics, hair damp from a quick rinse, and settled against the high pile of furs and pillows in our bed. My fingers rested gently on my belly.Xander came out from the mini kitchen attached to his chamber, barefoot, shirtless, hair tousled, with two steaming mugs in hand. He handed one to me and dropped onto the bed with a soft grunt.“Ginger and honey,” he said. “Kaida’s secret cure for growing royal pups.”I smiled at him. “If it works, I’ll personally carve her name into a throne.”We s

Ava's povThe air buzzed with excitement.Golden rays of the sun spilled through the leaves above as the clearing beside the Moonstone Falls which glowed with enchantment.I had never seen the sun so bright, it was as if all the gods were watching closely to see what would be revealed today.Long, linen banners fluttered from tree branches, dyed in the traditional white and silver hues of blessing rituals. It was a sacred spot—where our ancestors once received visions from the Moon Goddess herself—and it felt like the perfect place for today. My gender reveal.Or as the werewolves called it: The Spirit Beckoning.Kaida had explained it days ago while wrapping my waist in white silk, her eyes shining with pride as she narrated the ancient tradition.I wasn't surprised that she knew so much because the nightshade warriors were known for holding on to our history very tightly, they even knew far more than even blackthorn but only shared why they deemed necessary.“When a pup grows strong

  • THE ALPHA'S FORBIDDEN MATE    Chapter 131

Ava's povThe day had started like any other. There were meetings with the inner council, light bickering over the upcoming full moon festival, and more parenting advice— that I didn't ask for— than I could keep up with. My mind felt full, my ankles were sore, and despite how much I adored everyone’s excitement, all I wanted was silence, a soft place to lie down, and maybe a jar of pickled mangoes.Xander had been called away to handle a little rogue situation near the southern border, and although I tried not to worry, being apart from him—even just for a few hours—tugged at something inside me.Even after the war,.rogues would still be spotted from time to time. They weren't threatening and tended to run away at the sight of us. They just wandered aimlessly but we had underestimated them once and didn't want to make the same mistake twice. He’d been protective ever since we found out about the baby, even more so since I’d started showing a few weeks ago. My bump was still small, but

Ava's povI always thought pregnancy would feel magical. Glowing skin, cute bump, a sense of purpose, maybe even that mythical "pregnancy glow" everyone swore existed.Instead, it felt like I was being hunted… by my own body.“Move,” I growled at Xander, who stood directly between me and the basket of moonberry tarts I’d been craving since sunrise and asked the cooks to make.He turned slowly, blinking. “You’ve already had three.”I narrowed my eyes. “And?”“And… I love you,” he said quickly, stepping aside and lifting both hands like I was some scary creature.Which I kind of was.Pregnancy had changed me. It was like I had become Ava 2.0—crying over songs with puppies, getting irrationally upset when Xander didn’t refill the honey jar, then five minutes later curling against him like nothing ever happened. The mood swings weren’t just real. They were ruthless. The moonberry tart was cold by the time I got to it, but I didn’t care. I devoured it with all the speed of a starved animal

  • THE ALPHA'S FORBIDDEN MATE    Chapter 228

Xander’s POVThe moonlight spilled through the open balcony, casting soft silver over the sheets tangled at the foot of the bed. The fire in the hearth had died a while back, quiet and tired like the rest of the castle. The day has taken an unexpected turn which I loved so much. A twist that made my heart race and a smile light up my face. She was asleep.Ava.My mate. My Luna. My light. Her hair was fanned across the pillow, her face relaxed and peaceful—something I never took for granted anymore. I didn’t move, just sat at the edge of the bed, eyes watching the delicate rise and fall of her chest. Her unexpected words echoed in my head like a metal being hit by something. She’s pregnant. It should have been a simple announcement. But for me, it cracked something wide open. For weeks, I’d noticed something different in her scent. Not wrong—just new. I hadn’t placed it, not until she stood before me and told me herself. There had been no grand preparation. No expectations. Just her an

Ava's povSunlight spilled through the high windows of the grand hall, gleaming on the silver fixtures and dishware. For the first time in months, the hall wasn't empty. Laughter echoed all around me, mingling with the clinking of cutlery and the smell of warm bread and honeyed meats.I sat between Xander and Vanessa, my fingers curled around a steaming cup of tea. My stomach fluttered—not from nerves, but from something far newer. Something growing. The thought never failed to pull a smile to my face.I glanced around at the faces gathered at the table. Rowan was teasing Kael over a burnt piece of toast, Kaida sat beside him, her hand resting lightly on his wrist. Lyra was at the far end, wrapped in a thick shawl, her expression quiet but calm, a faint smile playing on her lips as she watched them. There was no tension in her shoulders. They were all here. All of them. And that meant more to me than any feast ever could.“Gods,” Vanessa said, stretching back in her seat. “It’s been f

  • THE ALPHA'S FORBIDDEN MATE    Chapter 226

Ava's povThe morning sunlight filtered in through the tall windows, casting soft golden glow across the stone walls of our chambers. The fire from last night had burned down to glowing embers, but I still felt warm—safe in the memory of the stars and the enormity of the secret I’d carried all night.I smiled, rubbing my tummy even though it didn't have a bump. It all still felt like a dream to me. I couldn't believe that I was carrying my child— out child— and would soon be able to hold him or her in my arms. This was like a reward from the gods for taking down zerathos. It was the most perfect gift.Xander’s scent hit me before I heard his footsteps. Woodsy. Earthy and a hint of citrus. He pushed the door open with ease, stridijg in, he was already halfway out of his ceremonial coat, his black shirt clinging to his chest beneath it. His eyes found me immediately—still seated at the edge of the bed, half-dressed, barefoot, lost in my thoughts.“There you are,” he said, his voice soft

Ava's povPregnant. The word sat on my tongue like a secret not yet ready for the world to know. Heavy and new. Sacred. My hands trembled as I exited the healer’s wing, the soft glow of lanterns lining the path doing little to light the darkness within me.It wasn't a bad darkness, it was just confusion. The corridor behind me felt like it belonged to another world—a place of certainty and whispered truths. Healers always knew things, some that we wanted to hear and the ones that we didn't want to hear. Out here, beneath the dark sky things felt more real.Too real.I walked slowly, aimlessly, not ready to return to the castle after what I had just learned. Not ready to face anyone. Especially not Xander. Not yet.The gardens were quiet this time of night. Peaceful. A hush had settled over the grounds, as though the very earth was holding its breath. The petals of Kaida’s cherry blossom tree glowed pale pink in the moonlight, and I found myself drawn toward it. Toward the spot we alwa
