CHAPTER FIVE

CHAPTER FIVE

Harriet’s POV:

I’ve never liked Hattie. I’ve heard so many stories about how she was a snobby and haughty girl, and she always lived up to those adjectives whenever I saw her on a few occasions we coincidentally both attended.

I didn’t know she had a boyfriend, let alone know that it was a future Alpha. The future Alpha who told his son I was his mother, everything is so confusing.

I told Kyla that I would be back and she should wait for me here. After that, I took Nelson out of the hall and went to search for his father and Hattie. After the dance was over, I saw them leave the hall together and it made me a bit angry that Tyler had turned me into a babysitter so he could go have fun with some girl not even minding about his son who he kept with a total stranger he assumed to be his mother.

I had memorized Tyler’s scent from when we were speaking and it was very easy to do that because of the distinct scents Alphas usually have. I was able to trace him to the garden behind the banquet hall.

I stood at the entrance as I watched him and Hattie speak. They were a bit far but I could hear what they were saying clearly due to my advanced hearing ability.

“Please Tyler, just agree to date me already. I’ve been waiting for too long and you keep turning me off. Please Tyler.” I heard her beg Tyler. Really? So what those girls were saying was true? A beautiful and classy girl like Hattie was actually begging a man to date her? Hell, she could have ninety men at her doorstep if she wanted, so why did she bother with this one?

“I love you so much Tyler, more than any girl can ever love you and you know that.” She continued to profess

I noted Tyler’s face was emotionless and unyielding, even though a pretty girl like Hattie was confessing love to him and had his hand in hers. But for the fact that he was still here with her, allowing her to hold his hands and tell him these words and even agreed to dance with her, that meant he was somewhat interested in her. No wonder Nelson feared greatly about the possibility of her becoming his step mother.

“Let’s go.” I said to Nelson and nodded. We walked further into the garden and then Tyler and Hattie heard our footsteps and noticed our presence.

“Oh, I’m so sorry for leaving Nelson with you and bothering you. Please forgive me.” Tyler begged and I noted that Hattie had own a bitter scowl, clutching Tyler’s hand tightly in my presence.

“There’s no problem baby, after all I am his mother and I have no problem taking care of my baby boy.” I replied and both Tyler and Hattie’s eyes widened at that statement, exactly the reaction I was looking for.

I glanced at Nelson, he had on a proud smile. I was just playing along so that I could make Hattie jealous and then she would leave Tyler alone, just for little Nelson’s sake.

“What did you just say?” Hattie asked me, unable to believe her ears.

“Oh? You haven’t heard of it? I am Tyler’s fiancée and he is the father of my child, Nelson. We are getting married soon.” I added and Hattie’s eyes nearly popped out of its sockets.

She gasped, “Tyler? Is this true? Is she really the mother of this child?”

“Yes.” Tyler simply said and Hattie wanted to run insane.

“What? Oh my God Tyler! I can’t believe you. You knew this all these while and you refused to tell me?” She questioned Tyler with a tone that spoke both hurt and anger then she burst into tears.

“Hattie, I can explain.” Tyler tried to pacify her and I rolled my eyes, why is he still trying to explain things to her? He’s obviously not interested in her so why bother.

“Just leave me alone.” Hattie said amidst her tears and ran away from the garden crying. Nelson and I gave each other a knowing look, I think I like this boy.

However, I thought Tyler would be angry at me for putting up this act and making Hattie cry. But the moment Hattie ran away, Tyler faced me with a happy smile. Like he was thankful I drove her away.

And then he did it again, he wrapped his arms around me and hugged me. “Thank you, Ivory.” He whispered into my ear and my happiness dropped. God, he mistook me for his dead ex–wife again. I can’t continue to deal with this behavior of his any longer.

I disengaged from the hug and faced him with an annoyed scowl, “Stop calling me Ivory! I’m not your dead wife.” It was getting too much.

“But you are Ivory, you just don’t recognize it yet.” He said to me and I rolled my eyes. There he goes again. I said nothing in response and just knew I needed to go away from him. I turned around and walked out of the garden. I went back into the banquet hall, and left the party with Kyla.

I really hope I don’t see him again.

The next morning, I was done getting dressed for my early–morning stroll to the river bank. I enjoyed the scenery and it was so calm and soothing for me, I usually went there to collect my thoughts and read without any disturbance.

“My princess, are you sure you want to go alone?” Kyla asked for the umpteenth time when I nodded in affirmation.

“Yes, Kyla. I will be safe, don’t worry.” I assured her.

“Okay My Princess. Please be well.” Kyla said to me and I smiled at her. Turning around and signaling at the gatekeeper to open up the privacy gates so I could leave.

However, we were all shocked to see the unexpected presence of Tyler and his son Nelson in front of our pack house!
