The morning after our mating ceremony, I wake up tangled in Amos's arms in our new shared quarters. For a moment, I just lie there enjoying the warmth of his body against mine, the steady rhythm of his breathing, the completeness of our bond.

Then reality crashes back. Seven days. The Pure Bloods gave me seven days.

"You're thinking too loud," Amos mumbles sleepily, pulling me closer. "I can feel your anxiety through the bond."
