KAYE'S POV

Pain became everything.

It was not sharp or dull or burning in any way I had ever known. It was total. It filled every corner of me, erased edges, erased time. My body was no longer something I inhabited. It was something being taken apart and rebuilt while I was still inside it.

I felt my DNA tearing itself open, strands unraveling and reweaving with brutal precision. Every cell screamed as it changed. Bones stretched and reshaped from the inside, not snapping but flowing into new structures that felt wrong and right at the same time. My spine arched, muscles tightening and strengthening faster than my mind could keep up with.

My senses exploded outward.

Sound fractured into layers. I could hear machines humming through walls, electricity flowing through cables, blood rushing through veins that were not my own. Smell became overwhelming.

Through the mate bond, his presence anchored me. It was the only thing that kept me from dissolving into the pain. I clung to him with e

ETHAN'S POV The alarms changed pitch again. Not louder. Faster. Urgent in a way that told me the mountain itself had begun to die.I turned back toward Jon Tulip, who lay sprawled on the floor in a spreading pool of blood. His chest rose shallowly now, each breath a struggle that rattled wetly in his lungs. His eyes fluttered, unfocused, but there was still awareness there. Still that sharp, calculating mind refusing to let go.“Who,” I demanded, dropping to one knee beside him, my voice low and deadly. “Who is your partner.”Jon Tulip smiled with what little strength he had left.“You still think she is a victim,” he rasped. My stomach tightened.“Subject Zero,” he whispered. “She was never a prisoner. Never a mistake.”I felt Kaye stiffen beside me through the mate bond, shock rippling through her like a physical blow.“She chose this,” Jon Tulip continued, blood bubbling at the corner of his mouth. “She helped design the pathogen. Helped refine it. She believed in the work.”“No,”

  • THE ALPHA’S GHOST   CHAPTER 87

KAYE'S POVI reached Ethan just as his jaws closed around Jon Tulip’s throat.Time seemed to stretch thin in that instant, every sound dulled except the savage growl vibrating through Ethan’s chest. His wolf was fully forward now, eyes blazing, muscles locked, instinct screaming for blood. Jon Tulip’s pulse fluttered beneath Ethan’s teeth, fragile and fast. One bite. That was all it would take.Through the mate bond, I felt Ethan slipping. Not into unconsciousness, but into something far worse. Rage without limits. Grief without end. A place where the wolf ruled and the man dissolved.I slammed my hands against his chest.“Ethan,” I shouted, my voice raw. “Look at me.”His head snapped toward me, teeth still bared, breath coming in harsh bursts. For a heartbeat, there was nothing human in his eyes.I pushed through the bond with everything I had.You are not this, I sent fiercely. You are not his weapon. You are not his monster. The wolf snarled, resisting.I stepped closer, pressing

  • THE ALPHA’S GHOST   CHAPTER 86

ETHAN'S POVPain had become background noise.Every breath burned. Every movement tore at muscles already pushed past their limits. None of it mattered. Jon Tulip stood in front of me, blood streaked across his face, eyes bright with satisfaction, and the only thing I could feel clearly was the need to end him.He moved first.Too fast. His fist slammed into my ribs, enhanced strength driving the air from my lungs as I skidded across the laboratory floor. I rolled, barely avoiding a second strike that shattered the concrete where my head had been a second earlier.“You fight well for an Alpha,” Jon Tulip said calmly. “But you were never designed for this level of conflict.”I surged to my feet and charged him, letting my wolf push closer to the surface. We collided in a brutal exchange of blows, fists and elbows and knees moving faster than thought. Every strike I landed was answered twice as hard. His enhancements absorbed impact that should have crippled him.I tasted blood.Through

  • THE ALPHA’S GHOST   CHAPTER 85

KAYE'S POVThe silver light inside me settled into something steady. Not calm. Not peace. Control.I stood there breathing, my body humming with power that no longer felt wild or foreign. It felt purposeful, like my bones finally knew what they were meant to do. When I looked at Lucas collapsed on the floor, breathing and free, the truth clicked into place with terrifying clarity.I could cure them. Not slowly. Not with blood or machines or sacrifice.Directly.The pathogen inside the transformed wolves was no longer hidden from me. It pulsed in my awareness like a map of living poison. Every carrier was a signal. Every infected body a locked door I could now open.Hope surged so fast it almost knocked the breath from my lungs.I turned toward Sarah Vance. She stood frozen near the wall, watching Lucas gasp for air, watching Dr. Liston convulse on the floor as the pathogen was ripped out of her. Her face was pale, eyes bright with calculation rather than fear.“You do not have to stay

  • THE ALPHA’S GHOST   CHAPTER 84

ETHAN'S POVI had seen wolves break chains before. I had seen enforcers tear through steel doors when rage took them. I had never seen anything like this. The restraints around Kaye shattered as if they were made of brittle glass. Silver reinforced bands that were designed to hold creatures stronger than Alphas snapped apart with a sound that cracked through the laboratory. She rose from the table in one smooth motion, her feet touching the floor without a stumble, her balance perfect despite everything that had been done to her.She moved like water finding its path. Her eyes glowed silver, bright and steady, but they were still hers. Still sharp. Still aware. When she looked at me, I felt her recognition through the mate bond, warm and grounding, cutting through the chaos around us.She is still Kaye.Jon Tulip stared at her as if the world had just betrayed him.“This is not the outcome,” he said quietly, and for the first time, his voice held strain. “The models did not allow for
