The full moon hung heavy over the BloodMoon Pack, bathing the entire courtyard in a cold, silvery glow. The night was supposed to be a sacred one — the night of the Mating Ceremony, when chosen wolves would finally meet their fated mates. Laughter, wine, and whispers had filled the air moments ago, but all of it vanished when Ethan Black stepped forward.

He was everything a future Alpha should be — tall, powerful, his dark hair catching the light like liquid shadow. His golden eyes glowed with dominance as he stood before Ariana Hale, his supposed mate, the woman the Moon Goddess had chosen for him.

But the look in his eyes wasn’t one of love.

Ariana’s heart pounded painfully in her chest as the whispers around her turned into cruel laughter. She could feel every gaze stabbing into her skin — the pack, the elders, even the servants standing in the shadows.

“Say it,” she whispered, her voice trembling but steady enough to be heard.

Ethan’s jaw clenched. “I, Ethan Black,” he began, his voice cold as the mountain wind, “reject you, Ariana Hale, as my mate and Luna of the BloodMoon Pack.”

The words fell like blades.

Ariana’s breath caught in her throat, her vision blurring. The mark that had glowed faintly on her neck — the symbol of their bond — began to fade, leaving behind only pale skin and unbearable silence.

The crowd gasped. Some pitied her. Most didn’t.

A low growl echoed from the crowd — her father, Beta Hale, stepping forward, fury burning in his eyes. But the Alpha raised his hand, silencing him. No one defied the will of an Alpha’s heir.

Ethan turned away, his expression unreadable. “You’re not fit to stand beside me,” he said quietly, though every word sliced her heart open. “You’re weak. The pack deserves better.”

Ariana’s lips parted in disbelief. “Weak?” she whispered. “Because I’m not ruthless like you?”

He didn’t answer. He walked away, leaving her standing alone under the moonlight — her tears mixing with the scent of crushed earth and broken dreams.

The crowd began to disperse, whispers following her like shadows.

“Poor girl.”

“She should’ve known her place.”

“No one rejects the Moon’s will and walks away unharmed.”

Ariana didn’t hear them anymore. Her world had gone quiet — except for the echo of his rejection repeating in her mind.

She turned and walked back toward her family’s estate, her steps unsteady, her breath shallow. Her mother tried to reach for her, but Ariana pulled away. She needed to be alone — to bleed in silence.

Inside her room, the reflection in the mirror stared back like a stranger. The once-bright mark on her neck was gone. The bond — gone. The hope she’d held for years — shattered.

Her voice broke as she whispered to herself, “Why wasn’t I enough?”

The wind outside howled as if answering her pain. The scent of rain drifted through the open window, heavy with thunder and promise. She sank to her knees, clutching the side of her bed, her tears falling freely now.

Her wolf — silent. Her spirit — fading.

But just as the first lightning flashed, there was a knock at her door.

“Ariana,” came her mother’s trembling voice. “You need to come downstairs. Now.”

“I can’t,” Ariana croaked. “Not tonight.”

Her mother hesitated. “It’s… it’s the Alpha. He has spoken.”

Ariana frowned, wiping her tears. “The Alpha?”

Her mother nodded, her voice breaking. “He has chosen you to marry Damon Black. Tomorrow.”

For a long moment, Ariana didn’t move. Her heart stuttered, then stopped entirely.

“Damon?” she whispered. “Ethan’s brother?”

Her mother’s silence was the only answer she needed.

A chill spread through Ariana’s veins. Damon Black — the cold, unfeeling Alpha of the BloodMoon Pack. Known for his strength, feared for his cruelty. Wolves said his heart was buried with his first mate — the woman he lost in the last Blood War.

And now he wanted her.

Her stomach turned. Was this pity? Punishment? Or something worse?

She forced herself to her feet, her reflection still trembling in the mirror. Her eyes were red, her face pale, but something inside her shifted — a flicker of defiance beneath all the pain.

“If the Moon Goddess wishes to break me,” she whispered to her reflection, “she’ll have to try harder.”

The wind blew harder, rattling the window. The moonlight caught her eyes, and for a split second — they flashed silver.

Ariana froze.

That had never happened before.

The knock came again, firmer this time. Her mother’s voice was thick with fear. “Ariana, please. Don’t make him wait.”

Ariana swallowed hard and turned toward the door. “I’m coming.”

Outside, the thunder cracked, shaking the walls. Somewhere deep within the forest, a wolf howled — long, mournful, and eerily familiar.

Ariana’s pulse quickened. She didn’t know it yet, but the sound wasn’t just any wolf. It was the call of the Alpha who had just claimed her fate.

And by tomorrow night, she would become his Luna.

The air carried a scent she didn’t recognize—metallic, sharp, and threaded with menace.“Something’s wrong,” Ariana whispered, stepping cautiously among the broken branches and scorched leaves. He was steady, grounded, but there was something else beneath his calm… something uneasy.“Stay close,” he whispered, voice barely audible. “Something’s here. And it’s not like the others we faced.”Ariana nodded, swallowing the lump in her throat. The remnants of last night’s battle still buzzed through her veins.
