MasukRyan's whole body became seriously cold as he watched the entire mind-blowing scene unfold right before him. Ava was the mysterious new chairwoman of such a big business brand…she was married…not just married, but with kids. His world was spinning.
“How was your trip?” Ava asked the little ones while fiddling with their hairs. She paid little to no attention to the presence of Ryan there. Ryan stood like a lost sheep, not knowing which move he ought to make. “Adrian was asleep all through the journey!” Little Adrianna said with a loud chuckle. Adrian tucked his dad's hand in protest. Then, he said in protest, “Dad, you know that's not true. Can you tell mom here that Adrianna has told a lie against me?” Ava giggled and looked at Arnold, his husband. “Who should I believe?” Arnold simply grinned and threw his hands in askance, a gesture that meant she should not drag him into the argument. “Av…” Ryan almost called her name. But it felt as if his tongue had been tied up. There was a lump in his throat. The memories of the past years were protesting in his thoughts. He betrayed her. He hurt the woman that loved her well. Now, she's back. Even if he wanted to apologize, where would he start from? He was still in his dazed state when one of the little angels asked a question. “Mom, who is the man over there?” Adrianna asked in an inquisitive tone. The attention was suddenly turned to him. He looked into the eyes of the kids and his mind tickled him. Those eyes…there were his. He could see his miniature form standing right there before him in the person of Adrian. Were the children his? He thought. But hell no. That was not even possible. Ava never mentioned a word to him about carrying a baby for him. Besides, years had passed. There was another man in her life already. “Is he your friend?” Adrian added. Ava looked at Ryan. Then, she looked at the kids and smiled. “No, my babies,” she replied. “He's not your mom's friend. He's just a stranger who came here for business.” The response hit Ryan in the chest. He was not a stranger. They had something in the past. As a matter of fact, his heart was still beating for her. “Hello, Mister,” Arnold said as he walked to him. He reached out to shake hands with Ryan. Ryan looked at him, a feeling of jealousy and disgust swelling up in his eyes. Arnold wasn't looking bad. But he was definitely not better than him. His eyes flashed to Ava. The lady seemed not to be flustered. She simply leaned on the office desk and had both hands on the heads of her children. “Arnold Clifford,” Arnold said. “Hmm,” Ryan exhaled heavily and shook his hand. “Ryan Blake.” Ryan was expecting him to be a bit flustered on hearing his name. Ryan Blake was a popular business figure. But Arnold was not flustered. He simply turned to Ava. “Oh well, sweetheart, you have a business talk to do. I will go with the kids. And yes, I have an online meeting to catch up with.” Ava stole a glance at Ryan before she replied. “You can cancel it.” Arnold eyed her inquisitively. “Why?” “Because I haven't been with you in two weeks,” she answered. “It's just a week, babe,” Arnold corrected her and laughed. “Well, that's how much I miss my hubby.” She walked up to him and kissed him slightly. Ryan's heart was about to be torn apart. He couldn't bring himself to believe Ava did that right in his presence. “Uhm, Mr Ryan Blake, please, leave the office. I won't be entertaining any clients again. Do yourself a favor and come some other time. That is if you really want to compete for the deal. Thank you.” The kids ran out. Ava locked arms with Arnold and was leaving the office when Ryan grabbed her free hand. She glared at him. “What's the meaning of this?” She queried him. Ryan shut his eyes and opened it. Then, he said, “I'm sorry I hurt you.” His eyes were pure and he meant those words. But Ava wasn't flustered. She just smiled, patted him gently on the shoulder and said, “Your wife is waiting at home.” She walked away with Arnold. She looked happy. But Ryan was hurting. He wanted her back. There was a trace of shock on the face of Ava. Arnold could see it and despised it. He could tell that something had swept Ava's mind off the topic of interest. “Is everything okay?" He asked her calmly. Ava chuckled and looked at him. Then, she said, “The internet is buzzing, you know." Arnold sighed. “I do think we expected it." Ava shook her head. Arnold didn't understand what she meant. “Something else just took over the internet,” she said to him and flipped the screen for him to take a look. "Ryan and Kristie are divorced?” Ava nodded his head. The news was definitely bad for Arnold. He hated the fact that Ryan had to always find a way to wriggle himself into the conversation. “Isn't that somewhat strange?" She asked him. Arnold shook his head. "Maybe not,” he replied. He tried to continue from where they stopped in their conversation. But Ava was not having any of it. Arnold got pissed. He was mad and had to vent it on the right person. It was merely a matter of time
Moments later, Ryan drove into Kristie's home and parked right in front of the house before walking in. Kristie was just seated in the living room, idling with her phone, when he walked in. Ryan's motion came to an abrupt halt the moment he saw her. The document that he received earlier on was clutched tightly in his hand. “Look who we have here," Kristie said in a jovial tone. But Ryan was not cut out for her play at the moment. He drew closer and slammed the document on the table. “What's the fuss about?" She asked him. She was purposely trying to get under his skin. He was going crazy already. What was the need to drive him crazier? Ryan pointed at the document on the table. “What is this about? A divorce? At this moment? Damn it, Kristie! This isn't right." Kristie was mute for a while. She leaned back and crossed her legs. “What isn't right? You mean divorcing you isn't right. You are not that daft." Ryan shut his eyes and opened them. He was searching for the proper wo
A couple of hours into the day, Ryan was getting his check-up from a nurse. The whole event could not just give him a little breathing time. Ava had hit him in a manner that he least expected her to. “When will I be free to leave this place?" He asked the female nurse attending to him. With a smile, she replied, "When you are ready, sir.” Ryan felt he was ready to take on his daily routine again. They say a man whose house is on fire has no time to go after rats. That was his condition at the moment. There was no need for him to let himself remain on the hospital bed, waiting to be properly healed before facing the challenges ahead of him. He could imagine the disappointment his father was probably feeling over the matter. The man had his reasons to be mad at him. Ryan failed handle the situation well. Or maybe Ava was just too much for him to handle. “I think I'm ready right now," he said. “I have a whole lot on my table to do at the moment. I should be out there already."
When the morning was in full swing, the news of Ryan's defeat had reached every nook and cranny of the internet. It was the most searched topic on every blog. Ryan's phone would not stop buzzing. Calls and messages from business associates never stopped coming in. His social media handles were flooded with words that could traumatise a soul. Humans just didn't know when to draw the line and stop. In his home, his father was fuming badly while waiting for him to return. Kristie played the role of a good daughter-in-law. “Please, calm down," Kristie said to the man in a seemingly concerned tone. Mr Blake was tapping his knee cap on a regular rhythm. He was trying desperately to ease off the tension that was on the rise inside him. “Where the hell is your husband?!" He finally growled. Kristie pretended to care. But the truth was that she didn't. As a matter of fact, she was getting things in line to pull the string that would collapse the family's business. “He's probably out ther
Ava got home in the next couple of moments. Arnold was seated in the living room waiting for her to return. He had a few bottles of wine ready to celebrate the victory. The moment Ava's car drove in and parked, he got up and went outside to receive her. “Hey, Arnold,” Ava said in a very exhausted tone. “Congratulations, Ava,” Arnold said. “You have done something really huge this time.” Ava giggled and walked in with him. “What are these for?” She asked him and sank into one of the couches. Arnold chuckled. “To celebrate your win, of course.” He opened a bottle and poured some wine into two cups. Then, he handed one of them to her. “Let's toast,” he said. “Sure,” Ava replied. “To win more like this,” Arnold said and clanked the glass with her. While they drank, Arnold could not help but just stare at her. Ava was one hell of a lady. The stunt she pulled off tonight was completely out of the blues. It seemed more like she had been expecting this to happen long ago. “Why are
Some kilometres away at Blake Haven group's war room, Ryan was standing in the midst of the whole activity. He was glued to the screen. There was a cheer from everyone. It seemed they had won the battle against Ava. Ryan could see that Ava pulled away from the bidding war after he raised the bid to fifty million dollars. “Sir, we just won the bid!!” Someone shouted out. Everyone seemed to be excited. Platinum enterprise, though everyone believed it to be small, was seemingly the secret cash cow of Avalon corp. And that was the reason Ava was trying to buy it and keep it close enough. Ryan's tech people caught wind of this information while they were digging here and there. Somehow, he jumped into the deal to take it away. But with the way Ava pulled off, he was not relaxed. Sarah walked up to him. “Congratulations, Sir,” she said. “We secured the deal.” Ryan wasn't looking excited in any way. “At fifty million dollars, Sarah,” he said. Sarah didn't know what he was trying to s
