LOGINFor five years of marriage, David was the perfect husband everyone envied. He gave me endless gold cards and pampering, only when mentioning children, his eyes were bone-chillingly cold. Until the day I was diagnosed with a brain tumor and accidentally got pregnant, I broke his lie that had lasted five years: he never traveled on business, but secretly financed a flower shop called “Sylvia” without telling me. The girl in the shop, Emry, had a face identical to my sister‘s, and she stroked her slightly protruding belly, calling him “baby‘s dad” coquettishly. I chose to leave [Three years later] I became the most dazzling new star in Milan‘s architecture world. When we met again, I appeared at a celebrity dinner on the arm of my real brother Eric, with a child beside me who had a pair of eyes exactly like his. This once cold and aloof plutocrat now stopped my car in the rain. He knelt in the mud with red eyes, tugging on the corner of my skirt, and begged humbly, “Alice, please... look at me again.” I just gently brushed the child‘s broken hair from his forehead, without even pausing to glance at him. “Sir, you‘ve mistaken me for someone else. My husband died in that fire three years ago.”

My husband David came home from a month’s business trip, eager to make love to me.
But the moment he withdrew from my body, my body felt empty.
David rolled out of bed without hesitation, and turned his muscular back to me in a cold manner under the dim wall lamp.
I curled up between the silk sheets. We’d been married for five years, and every time we had sex, he made me scream.
My attraction to him wasn’t just physical though; it was also psychological.
I met David at summer camp nineteen years ago, and I’ve loved him ever since. Now, at twenty-nine years old, I felt lucky to be his wife.
My only lament was that we never had the chance to have a child.
He was always busy, filling his time with endless work. I chose to be an obedient wife though, and to support him in whatever ways I could.
I looked at him adoringly as he raked his hands through his hair. But the pleasure from the orgasm hadn’t even faded yet when I was suddenly gripped with a sharp pain in my head.
It felt as though something had suddenly tightened in my head. The pain took my breath away as it spread out in all directions, pulling at my nerve endings, causing my vision to briefly blur.
“Ugh...” I pressed my temples tightly. “I don’t feel so well.”
David didn’t even pause. He just continued buttoned up his shirt, his back still turned to me.
He was facing the full-length mirror, skillfully arranging his dark blue tie, his slender fingertips appearing particularly dignified in the reflection of the mirror.
He tilted his head, and there was no worry in his deep eyes. Instead, a hint of teasing that was almost mischievous appeared.
Sitting back down on the edge of the bed, he reached out and lifted my chin. The pad of his finger caressing my pale lips.
“Not satisfied yet? yet? Hmm?”His voice was magnetic and deep. He thought I wanted more sex. I shook my head and opened my mouth to tell him something was wrong, but the pain in my head was pulsing through my brain in sharp waves.
“I can’t now,” he said, his voice curt. “I have a transnational signing meeting. Be good and stay home. Wait for me. When I come back tonight, I’l satisfy you.”
The edges of my vision began to blur. .
He didn’t look at me, not really. . If he had, he would definitely have noticed something wrong with me.
I could taste blood in my mouth.
“Please,” I managed to say, my voice barely above a whisper. “Something’s wrong.” I swallowed.
“My head hurts.”
He finally frowned.
It wasn’t worry on his face, but discomfort at being interrupted.
“Alice.”
The way he said my name was always restrained, with a certain unquestionable patience. “Enough of this.. You’re just seeking attention. You know I don’t like this. It’s childish.”
He thought I was being coquettish. But I wasn’t. The pain in my head was making me feel sick to my stomach . I needed help. “Please,” I tried again. “Something’s wrong. Don’t leave me like this.”
He took a gold credit card from his wallet and casually threw it on the bedside table.
“What do you want? Sotheby’s diamonds? That Hermes you were drooling over at last week? Go ahead and buy it.”?”
He came back and gave me a brief kiss on the forehead.
“I know it’s our wedding anniversary tonight. Treat yourself. I’ll be home early.” And without another word, he strode out of the room as I clutched the silk sheets in pain.

“Congratulations, you’re eight weeks pregnant.”
It was later that afternoon and I was at St. Mary’s hospital.
Dr. Kate delivered the news, but there was no joy in her voice. Instead, her tone was tempered with an alarming gravity.
Pregnant?
My hand immediately went to my belly, which had yet to swell. I was ecstatic. But my initial ecstasy was short-lived as Dr. Kate handed me a black-and-white CT image.
We found this when we performed a full-body health check on you.” She pointed to a tiny shadow on the CT image. “I’m so sorry Alice. It’s a brain tumor.”I felt the floor fall out from under me.
“A brain tumor?” I said, my mouth dry. “Are you saying I’m going to…die?”My voice was shaky.
“There’s no sign of cancer yet. But the tumor is pressing on your central nerves.”Dr. Kate sighed.
“Unfortunately, it looks like the disease is developing much faster than we expected. If it continues to grow, it will start to affect your memory.” .””
“I don’t understand,” I said. I was struggling to process her shocking words.
“It’s a rare brain disease,” she explained. “Over the next three months, there will be a noticeable deterioration..” Her expression became extremely serious. “You’ll start to have memory problems. Possibly even memory loss. You may experience a blurred sense of time. Severe mood swings. As the memory loss intensifies, you’ll gradually start forgetting even the people closest to you.”
Memory loss?
Did she mean…I was going to forget the man I loved for ten years? The news caused my breath to hitch in my throat. My chest felt tight. I’d been married to David for five years. I was pregnant with our first child, the child I’d so desperately longed for.
But I had a rare brain disease. According to Dr. Kate, it was going to make me forget all the people I loved.
Including David.
Including my baby.
I felt like I couldn’t breathe.
My child was going to have to grow up without it’s mother?
[Alice’s POV]David became busier and busier with his “transnational conferences.”While I, under the double torment of my brain tumor and gestational vomiting, was rapidly losing weight.I decided to contact my brother.Eric and I had only recently found each other. I was actually just the adopted daughter of the Taylors. Sylvia wanted a sister more than anything in the world, so the Taylors decided to adopt one. They chose me at the orphanage when I was younger because I looked like Sylvia. They figured it would be best if both their ‘daughters’, their biological one and their adopted one, at least looked the similar. The Taylors were always very kind to me, even though I wasn’t their biological daughter. After graduation, they even supported my dreams to study architecture in Italy. It was there, in Italy, that I found Eric. We met at a blood donor clinic, and I knew right away that he and I were related. Our features were so similar. After a quick DNA test, it was confirmed.Eric
[David’ POV]The black Maybach’s windshield wipers swished over the windshield, brushing away the rain that drizzled from the dark sky. I leaned back in my seat, my fingertips caressing the medical document. On the folder, the St. Mary’s Hospital wax seal stood out prominently.“Embryo transplant successful.”I let out a long sigh of relief. The huge stone that had been weighing on my chest for five years was finally released. It was time to tell Alice the truth, a truth that I’d been hiding from her for five years.During the fire five years ago, Alice believed that I rescued her by mistake. That wasn’t the truth though. I’d rushed back into the fire not because I recognized the wrong person, but because I liked Alice.I fell in love with Alice the first time I saw her. Ten years ago, at summer camp, one afternoon under a huge sycamore tree. I was just nineteen years old when I first saw her shy, timid smile. Her smile struck a chord in my heart that had never been struck before. Ali
[Alice’s POV]Later that night, I found myself locked in my familiar nightmare. The raging fire blazed, devouring everything. The scorching heat was so intense, it threatened to melt everything in its path.Panicked, I stood in the room, choking on the smoke. There was no way out. I was going to die in there. The fire raged all around me, the flames licked the wooden floor, the air thick with the pungent smell of smoke. And then he appeared.David.Come to rescue me, to save me from certain death. In the sea of fire, I saw him reach for me hand. But then, he furrowed his brows and cocked his head to the side.“You’re not the one I want,” he said, a look of disgust on his face. He tossed my hand to the side and gave me a hard shove, throwing me backwards into the fire.My eyes flew open as I gasped for air. My chest heaved violently, my forehead covered in sweat. The bedroom was lit only by a dim wall lamp, its soft light reflecting the familiar room.. It was only a dream. I was saf
[Alice’s POV]I didn’t open the door.Instead, through the surveillance screen, I stared fixedly at the woman standing in the rain. She was holding the bouquet of white tulips in her arms, and her beautiful face looked so familiar and unfamiliar under the light of the villa’s porch. Her features, her charm, and even the slightly upturned corners of her mouth bore an uncanny resemblance to my dead sister Sylvia. But as I stared at her, I saw a hint of cunning and confidence that Sylvia never had.Pressing the intercom button, I asked with a nervous tremble in my voice:“Who are you?”The woman chuckled at the camera, her eyes carrying a hint of triumphant pride.“Didn’t Mr. David tell you? I’m Emry.” Her voice was soft and sweet, but with a sharp edge.“Emry?” I turned the name over in my mouth. “No, David hasn’t mentioned you,” I said. She chuckled again. “Well, this is awkward,” she said, although her tone didn’t sound awkward at all. With a wry smile, she looked dead into the camera
