Lucia's pov

The first thing that caught my awareness was the coziness of the blanket covering my body and the strong but welcome aroma of food wafting through the air.

For a minute, I thought it was all a dream - that perhaps, somehow I'd fallen asleep in my tacky apartment. Maybe the contract, fire,my divorce and Lucas never happened.

But reality hit me like a shitton of bricks when I opened my eyes. The ceiling above my head was gorgeous, ivory panels with subtle silver inlays which enhanced the lavender outlook of the walls. The room was huge and far too expensive to be something I owned. I sighed as I got off the bed slowly, still a bit light-headed but managing to place my feet on the ground.

But before I could walk to the door, I heard someone's footsteps coming up the stairs.

I froze but didn't panic. I had a feeling it would be someone I knew…maybe Adrian or Lucas and when the door finally swung open, Adrian was there with a food tray in hand.

Lucia's pov Streams of sunlight hit me in the face once again, signaling the arrival of the morning.I sat awake to watch them bouncing off the sleek marbled floors and the tall glass panels of my guest room. The place still amazed me,it truly belonged to a billionaire - perfect and expensive and I would get used to it in time. I was sure of it. I knew that soon I'd feel less like a guest and more like someone who had a role to play here.Today I felt the overwhelming need for change. Granted, there was still a part of me that wanted to run away and hide after all that I'd gone through but it was overshadowed by something else, something that meant a lot to me. Mine and mine alone - ballet. So I decided to give into it and dress elegantly for an outing today. I picked a beautiful blue dress with a nice hairdo that'll last - before asking Adrian if the chauffeur could drive me out. And I felt relieved when Adrian didn't argue with me this time.“Mr. Marano already thought of this…the ch

Lucia's pov The early morning sun broke through the penthouses' windows like molten gold.I fluttered my eyes against it dazed for a second until the woodsy scent of pricey furniture polish reminded me of where I was.Not hope General. Not home. But Lucas Marano's sky fortress.I pushed myself up steadily in the giant bed, stretching my sore muscles. I thought of Sophia and a sharp ache poked at my chest. She was probably in some place I couldn't follow right now. That both terrified and relieved me.I willed my body out of the comfy bed and started my daily wandering through the penthouse. It was almost eerily silent, the kind of quietness that made me almost hear my heartbeat. The tiled floors made my steps echo, magnifying the sound as if the house wanted to remind me that I didn't fit in here.Adrian was already in the kitchen(a place he made his second office) when I got there, placing a tray of omelettes and pancakes with coffee on the counter.“Good morning to you, miss Lucia,

Lucas's pov I hated unwelcome distractions. Work was my safe haven : charts, contracts, deals worth kidneys - all of it was where I thrived. But for the first time in history my focus was divided.I was reminded that I was no longer by myself when I heard her light footsteps in the hallway.Lucia.I loosened the tie around my neck and shifted my eyes back to the work reports on my desk. My trusty assistant(Adrian) had just brought these documents from the Hong Kong branch - scuttlebutt about a property expansion deal that needed my signature immediately. Usually,I would over analyze all the details, words and all else but today something was off. I groaned because it had everything to do with the ballerina wife I had with me now who had taken a liking to exploring her new home. Not that I minded too much, the arrangement was temporary anyway. She passed out two days ago. Extreme exhaustion, Dr. McClain had called it.The kind that pushes people to their breaking point.I felt my jaw

  • THE BILLIONAIRE'S BEAUTIFUL MARIONETTE    The vow she never heard

Chapter thirteen Lucas's pov I rarely ever got anxious about anything.Life was always in order. Mergers worth billions, cut throat takeovers, rival hostility - I'd faced them squarely with indifference and control that earned me respect across boardrooms. But here in my arms was my passed out ballerina wife, Lucia. I had scooped her into my arms after she fell to the ground with a sickening thud. Now, staring at her pale face which seemed a little too translucent under the glow of the lights, a pang of sorrow shot through me.I guessed that everything she'd been passing through finally took its toll on her body.I set her down gently to pick up my phone so I'd call Adrian.“Hello, sir?” His voice rang out from the other end.“Adrian, I need you upstairs immediately, Lucia's unconscious.” I said, my voice steady betraying the emotions I felt within.“Alright sir, I'd be up there right away.” He said,no unnecessary questions asked.I waited with Lucia back in my arms for a few minutes w

  • THE BILLIONAIRE'S BEAUTIFUL MARIONETTE    papers and promises

Lucia's pov Lucas's magnificent private jet finally arrived. Its sleek black body descending from the clouds and shining under the sunlight. I held my breath in awe for a moment before reality hit me: It was here to take away the girl I called my whole world.Sophia.my heart stretched in pain as I saw her little frame being safeguarded in a personalized stretcher, surrounded by a team of top specialists. I wasn't permitted to board or even get too close. Now,all I could hear was the fading echoes of the jet's engine as it flew away with her leaving me with a dull ache in my chest.“It's going to be alright, Lucia…she's going to be alright,” I turned to the direction of Lucas's voice as he said those words, his pose perfect, face unreadable. And I wanted to believe him. Desperately.I gathered myself together before I nodded feebly, wrapping my arms around myself for comfort. Lucas turned away first“Let's go.” He ushered me towards his beautiful blue Porsche and I marveled at it in w
