Zara's POV***

"Where is your keychain?" Roman asked, catching me completely off guard. The question sliced through the quiet like a sharp knife. My pulse skipped a beat. I hadn't even realized he paid that much attention, let alone noticed something as small and ordinary as my keychain.

"It should be here... somewhere," I replied hesitantly, rummaging through my bag with clumsy fingers. My movements became frantic as I dug deeper, heart pounding faster with each empty pocket I explored. The keychain was missing. A knot of unease coiled in my stomach.

Roman watched me closely, his gaze unwavering, intense, like he was searching for a lie on my face.

"Maybe I left it at home," I added, trying to sound casual, though my voice lacked conviction. "How did you even know about it?"

"I’ve seen it before. It sometimes peeks out of your bag," he said with a casual shrug. But his answer didn’t sit right with me. There was something too rehearsed about the way he said it, like he was covering for

  • THE BILLIONAIRE'S REGRET   The Rooftop Confession

Zara’s POV***Roman’s voice echoed across the reception hall, slicing through the heavy tension like a blade. For a second, everything around me stilled. A part of me had wondered where he was in all of this. I should have known he wouldn’t stay out of the chaos for too long. And when his voice cut through the air, stern, commanding, unrelenting, I wasn’t disappointed. For a fleeting moment, despite the storm between us, a smile curved my lips. I didn’t mean for it to happen. But when Tania’s hand froze mid-air, then dropped stiffly to her side, I couldn’t help it.“Smart girl,” I muttered under my breath, my eyes never leaving her face.Tania’s features hardened, her shock clear. She looked between me, Selene, and finally Roman, as though searching for an explanation. But when she found none, she turned on her heels and walked off, her pride limping with every step.“Serves her right,” Selene whispered beside me, feigning innocence, as though she hadn’t stirred the pot herself.I whi

  • THE BILLIONAIRE'S REGRET   The Edge of Apologies

Zara's pov***Roman had looked me dead in the eye and accused me of plotting with his father. The words still rang in my ears like a curse, sharp and poisonous, each syllable cutting deeper than the last.Every word dragged me back to that day three years ago, the day he turned his back on me, his cold voice accusing me of sabotaging his contract.I had thought I would be able to forget that memory, but it clawed its way out now, raw and vivid.Back then, I had sworn that if life ever put me in the same space as Roman Vale again, I would never, ever let myself be vulnerable to him.Yet here I was, standing in front of the same man, foolish enough to believe things could change.I thought he would be different this time. I thought maybe there was something new between us, something worth holding on to.But I was wrong. Roman Vale hadn’t changed. He was still the same as ever, sharp-edged, quick to distrust, ruthless in the way he cut me down. And I… I was wrong, so, so wrong, for think

  • THE BILLIONAIRE'S REGRET   At least I didn't Steal

Roman’s POV***“How are you?” I asked her, deliberately ignoring her question. The worry in her eyes was clear as day, but I had no intention of telling her the truth. Some truths were too heavy to speak, especially to her.“That’s not what I’m asking you,” she snapped back almost immediately, her tone sharp and unwavering. She wasn’t going to let this go, not tonight, not with that fire burning in her gaze.“I went out on an impromptu meeting for my business, Sera. I don’t think I have to report everything I do back to you.” My words came out firm, harder than I intended.I saw the shock ripple across her face, the way her mouth parted as though she hadn’t expected me to draw such a line.“Really?” she asked, her voice colored with disbelief.“Yes, really.” I pressed on, ignoring the guilt gnawing at my chest. “You and I, we’ve only been on what, two dates? And now you come into my house to ask me where I’ve been? You don’t own me, Sera. And if this is some plot between you and my fa

  • THE BILLIONAIRE'S REGRET   Chasing Ghosts.

Roman’s POV***I stared at them from where I sat, two tiny figures no more than three feet tall, their little legs carrying them down the grand staircase with all the clumsy urgency of children. They rushed straight into her arms.“Hello, my lovelies,” Sylvia beamed, her smile stretching wide, her arms opening to catch them. They collided with her, clinging, their laughter ringing through the dining hall like a discordant note against the tension pressing on my chest. They seemed entirely at home in her presence, intoxicated by her warmth. The housekeeper came running shortly after, breathless.“It’s far too late for this,” she said softly, bowing her head slightly. “I apologize, ma’am, but even after I tucked them into bed, they refused to sleep until you came home.”Sylvia’s smile did not falter. “Take them inside,” she said smoothly, her eyes never leaving the children. “We have a guest.”The housekeeper nodded quickly, urging the children back up the staircase. I watched her close

  • THE BILLIONAIRE'S REGRET   Shadows around the Corner

Roman’s POV***The news of Zara’s death hit me harder than I thought it would. It wasn’t just a blow; it was the kind of hit that keeps echoing inside your chest long after the initial strike.I had thought I was ready for anything, that I had already buried every part of her in a box labeled betrayal. But hearing she was gone… that box exploded open like it had never been sealed.I picked up my phone to call someone, anyone who could understand what I was feeling. Someone who could hold the weight that was caving in my ribs. Levi. My best friend, my right hand. The call went straight to voicemail. For a moment I just stared at the screen like it had betrayed me too. Then it clicked, in my fogged-up brain, Levi hadn’t been around for days. And I hadn’t noticed. Or maybe I hadn’t wanted to.The realization clawed at me. My best friend had walked out of my life, and I didn’t even see it happen. I betrayed him, just like she broke my heart. No worse. I pushed him away, cut him out with m

  • THE BILLIONAIRE'S REGRET   Evidence of Me.

Chapter 59 — Zara’s POVIt had been two days since the fever took me down without warning, and Roman still hadn’t come back like he said he would. On the first day, I told myself not to care. He was a big boy; he would show up when he wanted to — probably working through one of his many father-shaped wounds. But by the second day, the silence felt less like space and more like a wall.I had called his phone more than once. Straight to voicemail. No call back. No text. Selene had even stopped by his office to confirm what I already suspected: he hadn’t been in for two days. The world kept spinning, deals were still being made, problems still multiplying, but Roman Vale had folded himself into the city’s shadows and taken my peace of mind with him. That morning Selene had left for work, giving me instructions not to move around too much. I had agreed, then lay there staring at the ceiling like it might offer me a map to everything I had lost. The apartment was quiet in the way a hospita
