LENA’S POV

“You’re shaking again.” Edward’s voice comes from behind me. Calm. Too calm. “I’m not,” I respond but in reality I am.

I’m standing in front of the mirror, fixing a button that doesn’t need fixing. My hands won’t stay still. I hear his footsteps on the marble floor, slow and deliberate, like he has all the time in the world.

“Don’t lie to me,” he says. I swallow. “I’m not lying.”

He’s close now. I feel him before I see him. His hand comes up, grips my arm, tight enough to hurt. He looks at the spot like he’s checking the quality of something he owns.

“You do this every time,” he says. “You act nervous like I’m the problem.” “You’re not,” I say quickly. The words come out too fast. That annoys him.

He lets go of my arm and steps back. “So what am I, Lena?” I don’t answer. That’s the wrong choice.

He hits me. Not hard enough to knock me down. Just enough to make a point. My head snaps to the side. The mirror blurs then I grab the dresser to stay upright.

“Answer when I talk to you.” “I’m sorry,” I whisper. “For what?” “For… for everything, for stressing you”

He watches me for a moment. Then he nods, satisfied. “Good.”

He turns away, loosening his tie. He tosses it on the bed like I’m not even in the room anymore. My cheek is burning. I keep my eyes down.

“You know what kind of day I had?” he asks. “No.” “Men died today,” he says casually. “Grown men. Strong men.”

I don’t know if he’s exaggerating. With Edward Caldwell, it could go either way. He sits on the edge of the bed. “And you’re standing there acting fragile”.  “I didn’t mean to,” I say. “You never mean to but you do it again and again”.

He stands again and walks past me. His shoulder bumps mine on purpose. I stumble. “Follow me.” I follow him but not too closely.

We move through the house. The lights are on even though it’s morning. Everything is too bright, too clean, too expensive. This house looks like nothing bad has ever happened inside it. Edward stops in the living room. “Look around,” he says. I actually take a look around the house.

“This life costs money,” he continues. “Protection costs money. Silence costs money.”

“I know.” He turns sharply. “Do you really know what you are costing me?” “Yes.” He walks toward me again. “Say it properly.” “I know,” I repeat, louder. He studies my face, then nods. “Good.”

Then his phone vibrates in his pocket he takes it out to check. His jaw tightens. “Things are getting messy,” he mutters.

I don’t ask questions. I learned that early. He looks up at me. “You’re not leaving this house today.” “Okay I won’t” “Because if anything happens to you, it happens to me.”

He taps his phone once. “Send him in.” I stiffen. Edward notices. “Relax. This is for your safety.” The doorbell rings. I flinch before I can stop myself.

Edward smiles like he enjoys that. “Stand there,” he says, pointing to a spot near the couch. “Don’t talk.” I move where he tells me. He opens the door. A man steps inside.

Tall. Broad. Dressed in black. His posture is straight, alert. His eyes scan the room immediately, fast and sharp. They land on Edward first. Then they move to me.

They don’t linger. They just register. “Edward,” the man says. He turns to me. “This is Ethan Cole.” Ethan nods once. “Ma’am.” That’s all he says.

Edward keeps talking. “Ethan is here because certain people would love to hurt me. And they’d love to hurt you even more.” Ethan’s jaw tightens slightly. He doesn’t speak.

“His job,” Edward continues, “is to stay close. Very close”. You don’t go anywhere without him.” I nod.

Edward looks at Ethan. “You see any marks on her that weren’t there yesterday, you tell me.” Ethan’s eyes flick to my face. My arm. My posture. “Yes, sir,” he says. Edward claps his hands once. “Good. Get settled.”

Edward walks away, already on his phone, already somewhere else. Ethan steps further into the room. He positions himself near the wall. Not close to me. Not far. Just present. The silence stretches. I don’t look at him. He doesn’t move.

After a moment, Edward calls from the hallway, “Lena.” “Yes?” “Don’t make me regret this.” “I won’t.”

The house feels different now. Heavier. Like there’s an extra set of eyes everywhere. I finally glance at Ethan. He’s looking straight ahead. His hands are clasped behind his back. He’s doing exactly what he was told. I turn away. This is my life. Luxury. Silence. Bruises hidden under silk. A husband who hurts me because he can. And a man named Ethan whose job is to make sure I stay alive inside it.

  • THE BODYGUARD MY HUSBAND HIRED FOR ME    CHAPTER TWELVE

ETHAN’S POVI couldn’t take it anymore. Two days. Two whole days of pretending Lena didn’t exist. Two days of watching her walk around the mansion quietly, carefully, like a shadow of herself. Two days of seeing the bruises on her face slowly fade while the sadness in her eyes stayed the same. And it was hurting me every second of it.I stood in the security room, staring at the camera that showed the hallway leading to her bedroom. She had just gone inside. Edward was still at work. Lewis was outside supervising the gate. It was the safest moment I was going to get. My chest tightened. I didn’t think again. I walked out.Her door was slightly open. I knocked softly. “Lena”. Then her voice came out quietly. “Come in.” I pushed the door open and stepped inside. She was sitting on the bed, reading something on her phone, but she looked up immediately when she saw me. Her expression changed. Surprise. Pain. Guarded emotion.“You came,” she said softly. The words hit me harder than anythi

  • THE BODYGUARD MY HUSBAND HIRED FOR ME    CHAPTER ELEVEN

LENA’S POVThe Paris trip ended too quickly. Not in a good way. In the kind of way where everything felt unfinished, broken, and heavy. No closure. No peace. No healing. Just silence. Cold, painful silence. We were heading back home. The private jet was already waiting at the airport, engines humming softly like nothing had changed in the world. But everything had changed. At least for me and Ethan.Edward walked ahead of us, speaking to Lewis about business schedules and meetings. Like Paris had been nothing more than a business stop. Like the bruises on my body didn’t exist. Like the tension between everyone didn’t matter.I walked behind them slowly, my sunglasses covering the fading bruise under my eye. My ribs still hurt. My arm still ached. But what hurt the most was the silence. Ethan walked a few steps ahead of me. Not looking back. Not slowing down. Not waiting. Just walking like I didn’t exist. Like we were strangers. Like Paris never happened. Like our fight never happened.

  • THE BODYGUARD MY HUSBAND HIRED FOR ME    CHAPTER TEN

LENA’S POVI woke up in pain. Not the normal pain I had gotten used to. This one was deeper. Heavier. My ribs ached every time I breathed. My arm throbbed. My face felt swollen, tight, like my skin didn’t belong to me anymore. For a moment, I didn’t move. Edward was still asleep beside me, lying peacefully like nothing had happened. Like he hadn’t nearly broken me the night before.I slowly slipped out of the bed, careful not to make a sound and walked into the bathroom. The mirror almost made me scream. Bruises covered my face. Dark purple under my eye. A cut on my lip. Finger marks on my arm. Red and blue patches on my shoulder and collarbone. Tears filled my eyes before I could stop them. I gripped the sink tightly, trying to stay calm. Trying not to break. But the pain wasn’t just physical. It was deeper than that. Because Ethan didn’t come. He saw me. He saw everything. And he walked away. My chest tightened painfully.I washed my face slowly, trying to hide the swelling with mak

  • THE BODYGUARD MY HUSBAND HIRED FOR ME    CHAPTER NINE

LENA’S POVParis looked beautiful at night. Cold air. Golden lights. Quiet streets. Soft music drifting from restaurants and passing cars. It should have felt amazing. Instead, it felt like a cage made of glass.I stood in front of the hotel mirror, adjusting the black dress Edward had chosen for me. It hugged my body perfectly, elegant and expensive, the kind of dress women dreamed about wearing in Paris. But my hands were shaking.Edward walked out of the bathroom, fixing his cufflinks. He stopped when he saw me. His eyes moved slowly over my body. Assessing. Possessing. “You look good,” he said calmly. “Thank you.”He stepped closer, standing behind me in the mirror. His hand rested on my waist. “You represent me tonight.” “Yes.” “You embarrass me, and you will regret it.” My chest tightened. “I understand.” He smiled faintly. “Good.”The dinner was worse than I expected. Rich men. Powerful men. Expensive suits and dangerous smiles. They sat around a long table in a private restaur

  • THE BODYGUARD MY HUSBAND HIRED FOR ME    CHAPTER EIGHT

LENA’S POVI knew something was wrong the moment Edward called me into his study. He never called me in the afternoon unless it was important. Or dangerous.I stood in front of his desk, my fingers locked together, trying to look calm while my heart beat unevenly in my chest.Edward looked up from the file in his hand. “You’re traveling with me.” The words hit me before I could process them. “Traveling?” I repeated quietly. “Yes.”He leaned back in his chair, studying me. “We are going to Paris for three days.” Paris. My stomach tightened instantly. Paris sounded beautiful. Romantic. Free. But with Edward, it sounded like a prison in another country. “When?” I asked softly. “Tomorrow morning.” The fear came immediately. So fast it almost made me dizzy. “Is there a problem?” Edward asked calmly. “No,” I said quickly. Too quickly. His eyes narrowed slightly. “You don’t sound excited.” I forced a small smile. “I am. I’ve just never traveled before.” That part was true. Edward watched me

  • THE BODYGUARD MY HUSBAND HIRED FOR ME    CHAPTER SEVEN

LENA’S POVThe first time I noticed him watching me, I was pouring tea. Not just looking. Watching. Studying.Lewis stood near the window, arms behind his back like every other guard in the house, but his eyes followed every movement I made. The way I picked up the cup. The way I stirred the tea. The way my hands slightly trembled. I felt it in my chest. This man was not here for security. He was here for me.I forced myself to keep moving normally, lifting the cup to my lips and taking a slow sip. Calm. Controlled. Not suspicious. From the corner of my eye, I saw Ethan enter the room. He didn’t look at me. Not even once. He walked past me like I didn’t exist and positioned himself near the wall. Professional. Distant. Cold. It hurt more than I expected. But I understood. Lewis was watching. Always watching.Edward walked in seconds later, his presence immediately tightening the air. “Good morning,” he said calmly. “Good morning,” I replied softly. His eyes moved between me, Ethan and
