The heavy crunch of snow beneath their boots was the only sound that filled the air as Aria and Lucien made their way up the winding trail towards their previous home.

Aria took a deep breath as she walked close to her mate, a feeling of anticipation churned within her as they drew closer to the cottage. The air was crisp, fresh and heavy with the scent of pine. The scent of the white vale forest. A scent that she just realized she had missed.

Her gaze lifted towards the cottage up ahead. It was weird looking at the cottage without seeing smoke staining the air from its old chimney. Just two weeks ago, she had considered this place her home. The first she had ever had.

It was the one and only place in her life where she wasn’t held prisoner, tortured, hunted or despised.

After she had left with Lucien for the castle, she realized that her home wasn’t a place, it was a person, Lucien.

But even then, she still missed the small, cozy feeling of the cottage.
