TORMUND'S POV

I was raging out, smashing everything in my office. My fists tore into the furniture, sending papers and trinkets flying. My wolf snarled deep in my mind. 'Our mate, our wife, the mother of our heir, had dared to plan a runaway!' He growled. 'How dare she think of leaving us! We are Alpha!' Belto's growl vibrated through my chest as I punched the bookshelf.

Wood splintered, books tumbled, and the whole thing collapsed in a heap at my feet.

'She better not try to leave. If she does, I'll lock her in the dungeons. I don't care if she's pregnant.'

'I agree,' Belto added, a low rumble that made my teeth clench.

Everything in the room seemed to echo our fury, from the shattered wood, to the toppled lamp, even the papers that were scattered like fallen leaves. I could feel my pulse pounding in rhythm with Belto's rage. He surged inside me, each heartbeat screaming for retribution. 'She is mine,' he whispered. 'Mine and no one else's.'

KYLA'S POV"The Wolf's Mother's Bones!" Tabitha gasped. "Then it's true. What I've been hearing is true... Tormund, you really did find the treasure.""I see nothing stays a secret in this pack," Tormund hissed."And what do you plan to do with it?" Tabitha pressed."You know what I want, Mother. You just want me to say it out loud," Tormund grunted. "I need it to bring Vivica back from the dead."Tabitha swallowed. "I'd love to have that sweet girl back too, but magic like that comes with consequences. Are you sure you're willing to risk it?""I'd risk a thousand wars and a million plagues if it meant I could have my love back. I'm living in hell, stuck with this worthless piece of shit. I hate the woman I'm married to. Every day with her drives me closer to madness."Hearing those words from Tormund made my legs weak. It was a good thing I was already seated, or else I would have collapsed to the floor.Tabitha cleared her throat and turned to me. "And you? Why do you want the treas

KYLA'S POV Three days later, I felt my body growing heavier and heavier. I wondered if it was because I was pregnant or if it was those apple pies Claudia kept sending over every day. They were my favorite as a teenager and ever since my stepmother learned I was pregnant she had been acting like a loving mother and an excited step-grandmother-to-be. "I don't feel so good," I said, suddenly coughing up a mouthful of blood. I was terrified. I thought to myself that this was because my baby had a defect and since Tormund still wouldn't give me the Wolf's Mother's Bone I figured going to the hospital would be useless. That was when I heard the voice I'd been dying to hear for months now. 'Kyla! Kyla!' Gemma's voice sounded like a frazzled transmission. 'Gemma? Is it really you?' 'Yes, Kyla. It's me. I've been so weak and I've been trying to reach you for a year now.' 'What do you mean you've been weak?' 'Wolfsbane. Somebody has been feeding us wolfsbane to weaken me, but I do

KYLA’S POV The driver pulled up to my father's estate, the wheels crunching over the gravel driveway causing me to have an even more painful headache. My father had moved to a bigger house after he retired as beta. Something I knew was Claudia's idea. The rain had slowed to a drizzle, but the clouds still hung low and grey, mirroring the feeling in my chest. I sat stiffly in the backseat with my arms folded tightly over my belly. I was still trembling from the ride and from Tormund's relentless presence beside me. His cold eyes never left me, even as the chauffeur cut the engine. "Wake up and stop your daydreaming," he ordered sharply. "You will walk in there like you own nothing. Don't even think about pretending you're dignified." I swallowed, my throat dry. I had tried to straighten my dress and smooth my hair, but the fabric refused to cooperate, and my eyes were red from tears. I glanced at Tormund, searching for something warm, but all I found was hatred and disdain. "Why

THIRD-PERSON POV "Wake up, you lazy sow!" Kyla jolted awake as a bucket of icy water crashed over her face. It stung her nose and flooded down her throat, making her choke and cough violently. She blinked through tears to see her mother-in-law towering over her like a vulture. "Mistress Tabitha," Kyla rasped, shivering. "Wh-what are you doing here so early?" “It’s 5 PM.” Tabitha let out a scornful laugh. "Plus, what a brainless question. Do I need permission to step into my own son's house? Or were you hoping to laze around all day and keep him away from his duties, you shameless leech?" Her lip curled in disgust. "Get up! You're a disgrace. Honestly, you're even uglier when you wake! How he can stand to look at you, I'll never know." Kyla scrambled out of bed, her movements awkward and careful, but she kept her head ducked. She couldn't believe she had slept the day away. "Stand up straight!" Tabitha barked. "Don't slouch like some mangy mutt. I want to see exactly what

  • THE BURNT FACE LUNA   9: The Wolf’s Mother’s Bone

TORMUND'S POV For the first year of our marriage, I treated Kyla with coldness. I avoided her bed. I did not want her to bear my child. But after a while, my mother told me the pack needed an heir. So I had to turn to alcohol to give me the strength I needed to bed such a wicked and ugly woman. She had a nice body...I even thought it was nicer than Vivica's, but I couldn't get myself to look into her face. Last month, drunk and confused, I had a moment of weakness and I slept with her when I walked in on her taking a shower. I had never been that horny before, and even though I whispered Vivica's name I was only thinking about Kyla in that moment, how good she smelt and how good her muscles felt around my girth. She was so tight, but the moment she whispered that she loved me I had to do something to shatter her, so I whispered Vivica's name out of spite. The next morning, shame burned through me. I thought Kyla had tricked me again. She must have been using her magic to get me to
