Daisy took the bold steps to walk into that office, as she could feel her legs trembling underneath her. It took a lot of energy to push the door open and she wondered why the door was that hard, perhaps, that was just her being nervous and anxious. She shivered as her first foot stepped into the office.
Some part of her in a big way, wanted to turn around and run away as fast as she could and damn the consequences, forget about the pay, forget about the job, forget about the sweet rates. She had never felt this way before. She felt that it got scarier, the closer she went. The other part of her waved it off and convinced herself that the fear was only based on the rumour she might have heard in the past and not based on reality. She had to remind herself what she stood to have as a secretary of the CEO and what she could achieve with the title alone. So, with boldness, she walked into that office, shoulders raised up in utmost courage, face focused and ready to tear down any questions and whatever that could come her way. As soon as she walked in, she felt that intense aura when the CEO walked past her earlier and it dawned on her that her friend Suzy might be right about what she told her. There was only one way she could find out! "I need a secretary as fast as possible, when did you schedule the interview Mark? That was the first thing she hears as she entered the office. "In two days time sir. On Friday, so that she can resume by Monday, if the interview was successful and accepted by the CEO sir." Mark replied abruptly. "In two days? Are you sleeping or something? I just said that I need a secretary as soon as possible and not just a secretary, I need whoever to work as my personal assistant." The CEO said, in an angry manner. Then, he turned to Daisy, "Have you read the terms and conditions? Daisy was taken aback by the question, as she wasn't expecting any questions from him, since he was having a conversation with the Mark, perhaps the application guy.She cursed quietly under her breathe, then stammered. "Well, sir .. I err, I uhm." She paused, cleared her throat sharply, then replied firmly. "No sir, but if I could get a hold of one now, I could do justice to it! She replied. After that, she wondered where the boldness came from. The CEO dropped the pen he held and stared at her briefly. "Hmmm... Are you ready to begin work today? I don't have any time to waste." "Yes sir! If I could get few minutes off to take breakfast in-between work time. I could start working immediately." Daisy answered unwavering. Still staring at her, he said "Mark, get the company's brochure and the manual contract now!As soon as he finished his statement, Mark dashed out of the office. Daisy could sense a little sign of relief from him as he left the sight of the sadist of a man, or should he say, the monster? She composed herself and assured herself that it wouldn't be as difficult as the world around them made it look like. She convinced herself into believing that even if he was a monster, she was going to break him and take him to be a human, that is if humans can be tamed! "What is your name? The Ceo, Mr Dash asked, jolting her from her kingdom of imagination. "Ohh. I am Daisy sir. Daisy Omorh. I am the first daughter and the first child of my parents, though my dad is late now, but my mom is still alive and kicking." "Good for her, unfortunately, I only asked for your name."That was when she realized that Mark had returned with the brochure and the manual contract. Mark handed the brochure over to her, while she took it.Mark stood by the side as she opened the brochure and scaneed through. "Flip to page 15. Check the terms and conditions involved in working with the CEO. I specifically put that there. You have five minutes to do that and give me your response. Then, we can proceed to the next step. Sit! Daisy sat down on the chair just across him as she flipped to the page number he had mentioned.Something caught her attention, she saw a part that stated that the CEO has the right to dictate to the secretary every activity of each day if needs be that the activities were changed. Another aspect that got her captivated was the part that says, the secretary does not have a working time frame. "I have a question." Daisy said, raising her hands. "Refer that to Mark." Daisy turned to Mark and asked, "no working time frame, what does that mean?Mark hesitated a little before he responded, "well, that means that you cannot leave when other workers does, except permitted by the CEO. you don't have any closing hour or time."Daisy nodded as she reflected back to what Suzy said about working all night just to make sure that a particular work is done. After a little while, Daisy spoke up. "I am ready to work sir! The CEO nodded at Mark and he handed the manual contract to her. The manual contract contained options for her name, age, address and some personal information. She filled each one of them as fast as she could, careful not to make any mistake which could ruin the business. After filling the contract, she gave it back to Mark, who in turn submitted it to the CEO to complete the final signing and stamping of the manual contract. As soon as he was done, he handed it back to Mark who took it judiciously from him.The CEO received a call which took a little time of the partial interview phase. He dropped the call and turned to Mark. "Work on that immediately." Then to Daisy, "You start tomorrow. Mark will give you some heads-up on some basics you need to know. You two can leave." Both Mark and Daisy left the office almost simultaneously. Daisy could feel her heart racing so fast as she walked out. Mark locked the door behind him and walked back to his own desk. "Mr. Mark. Uhm, I know this might not be the right question to ask but, is he always like this? So cold and ill mannered? Mark smiled calmly, "Daisy, right? She nodded. "Yes, correct". "I'm not in a position to answer such questions, but yes, he is. You don't have to be afraid alright, just do the jobs assigned to you as fast as you can and without mistakes. That is how you can keep out of trouble from him." Daisy sighed coldly. "That's a scary revelation. I hope I will cope with him." She said dryly. "I won't say it will be an easy job, I have been acting as his secretary since the last one left after her contract expired. It hasn't been easy, but I assure you that you can cope. I will contact you on W******p since I have your details, all you have to do is meet me if you encounter any issue." "Thank you Mr. Mark, I won't easily forget this kind gestures of yours." "You are welcome, but just call me Mark, no need for the formalities." "Okay, I will keep that in mind."Daisy walked into the elevator, her files held firmly in her left hand. She got a cab as soon as she got out of the building and headed home. She just had a shower and was about taking breakfast around 1pm, when she heard a beep on her phone. She took it up to check what it was.She screamed when she saw it. A sum of $1000 has been transferred to her from the company, with the narration, "THE STORM HAS JUST BEGUN!It was noon, the weather was a bit cool as compared to the previous day. Daisy decided to go for shopping with the money she received from the SABS company. It took her aback as she wasn't expecting anything until two weeks time, seems this was her dream job after all, or so she thought. Although, she had goosebumps each time she recalled her encounter with the CEO, Mr. Dash. The awkward silence that always enveloped every vicinity he entered or he stayed in. She knew something was definitely wrong and she hoped she'd be able to adapt to whatever condition she found herself in, in the future, while working with him. She had heard a lot of bad remarks from Stacy, even before she considered finding a job in the company. She never heard a single story about him that had happy endings. Still, at that point, she had no choice than to accept whatever came her way.She was $1,000 rich today, which used to be more than three months of her swear or even more. She'd gotten that in only o
She stood In front of the company and said a little prayer. The previous day, she was so bold and courageous, walking into the company like she had an affiliation with them. This morning, she felt like she had the whole world on her shoulders and she needed to carry it without faltering.Today would mark the beginning of her luxury or sufferings or whatever it may be. She couldn't tell what she'd encounter when she got there, but she was ready to face the little she had prepared for. Or so she thought. It was few minutes to the stipulated time that was agreed that she resumed work. So, she walked into the building, heads high, ready to conquer. As soon as she got to the office, which would be hers, starting that day, she saw a file on the table that contained a list of some daily activities that she needed to work on. She reported for work online and sat down comfortably on the chair, her chair. It was like a dream come true for her. The room was perfectly furnished. It had w
She returned home looking frustrated and famished. She was so worn out and fatigued that she lay on the couch for over twenty minutes. First day at work, but it felt like she had been in slavery since forever. After a while, she carried herself up from the couch and headed to the bathroom. She noticed that the room looked so untouched, which meant that her friend wasn't back.Daisy had returned home by some minutes past 6pm while the normal closing time was 4pm. Stacy should have been back by now, she thought. She had never missed coming home on time, except she travelled. Daisy searched for her phone at that moment and immediately she caught hold of it, she dialed the number. At the first ring, there was no answer. Her heart began to race faster than usual, so she calmed her nerves and tried again. "Hey Stacy, where are you? I have been..." "Oh, I'm at the door already, you'll see me now, alright." The call ended abruptly, she dropped the phone and disappea
It was a really chilly evening, Mrs. Kute, also known as Rachel, hurried home to get the house in order so the wind doesn't affect her kitchen specifically. She had a loose covering at the top and tried to manage it as much as she could till she could take hold on some cash to give it the repairs it desperately needed. "Oh no, not again. Please, give me a little more time and I will get you fixed alright. I know I have promised you that a lot of times, but this time it is special." She mumbled audibly to no one in particular but to the ceiling like it had ears. She placed a chair and climbed on it, so her hands could get to where she wanted. She kept muttering words to herself and hissed lightly. Luckily, she was able to tame it and the wind also subsided a little bit, which made it very much fairer for her. She climbed down slowly and sat on the chair for a while. She complained to no one, soliloquizing. "How can I do this alone. I am really tired of all t
Daisy returned home late in the afternoon feeling so tired and used up. She dumped her bag on the cushion and slumped there for a while, being sad for herself. She had just returned from a job hunt and it was obvious that it didn't go well. She was angry at herself for overreacting or acting up, when she would have been as quiet as a dove, which she really was. She thought. "I mean, how would I have known that the little man who was hopping up and down and showing himself off, how would I have known he was the interviewer. They don't behave so silly as he did. It's not my fault, yes, it's not my fault. I only told him the truth about himself, he should be grateful." She said to herself, in a way not to feel guilty for spoiling her interview by herself. She tried to cheer herself up by telling herself that, the man was only being rude, while she, on the other hand was being honest and straight forward, which was a good value every company should look out for in an employee.
Daisy noticed that her phone had stopped playing the music she assigned it to. She frowned, wondering what put a stop to it.She kept the fork she was using to eat on the plate, got up and headed to the room where her phone was. By this time, she could hear her phone ringing. "Who dares disturb my peace this early afternoon." She said, in a loud voice. As she left the kitchen to the room to go check out the caller, she heard the doorbell ring. "Oh damn it." She whispers, under her breath and moves to the sitting room instead. "Hold on, hold on. I'll be right there. Please, the bell is just too loud, can you stop!" She yelled, hoping whoever was at the door would listen, but the reverse was the case. She got to the door, unlocked it forcefully and yanked it open. "Ohh! Stacy." She said excitedly, now reducing her voice and acting so gentle. Stacy walks past me into the sitting room and sits down. "Seriously, are you deaf now? Geez, like I literally sta
Daisy woke up that morning feeling excited and more relaxed than she was the previous day. She had the feeling that she was going to get this job and she has never felt this way before. She had to remind herself that she was only going to submit her job application letter and get information on when she would return for the interview, so she doesn't get disappointed if something bad happens, though she doesn't pray for that to. Stacy on the other hand left quite earlier than Daisy, as that was what her job warranted her to do daily. She wished her friend a successful job application and promised to give her a treat if she eventually gets the job as a means to support her. At exactly 8 o'clock that Wednesday morning, Daisy took her bag with her file containing all the necessary documents and dashed out of the house to start her day with another job hunt. The company was about twenty minutes drive from her house, so she waited to get a good can that she could use
