Elara’s POV

Marcus’s throat pulsed beneath my fangs. The hot rush of his blood, just one bite away, was intoxicating. My claws dug deeper into his chest until his breath came out in broken, panicked wheezes.

All it would take was one snap and everything he had done to me, to Kael, to everyone, would end here.

Storm’s voice cut through the haze. “Do it! End him, Elara!”

The soldiers around us had gone still, their jeers silenced, their fear a living thing that pressed into my fur. They weren’t looking at Marcus anymore. They were looking at me.

And for a heartbeat, I saw myself the way they did—a massive wolf, blood dripping from her jaws, eyes glowing like molten fire. I was not Elara the omega or the broken girl Marcus had toyed with. I was something else.

My wolf howled inside me, demanding I finish it but something tugged at my chest. It was the bond.

If I killed Marcus now, I wouldn’t just be ending him. I would be stepping into something I didn’t yet understand. I could become s

Elara’s POV The night after our stolen feast had passed too quickly, laughter fading into the quiet hum of crickets and the steady comfort of Kael’s warmth at my side but dawn brought no such comfort. Dawn brought the weight of what loomed ahead. One day, only one day until the council demanded to see me. Until I would stand beneath their cold, unyielding stares and prove myself, or prove Marcus was right about me.I pulled in a breath, steadying my hands where they rested on my knees. Around me, the training grounds stretched wide, ringed with tall pines that seemed to watch with ancient eyes. My wolf stirred beneath my skin, restless and eager, as though she too understood the urgency of the hours ticking down.“You’re thinking too much again,” Kael’s voice broke through my haze.I glanced up. He stood at the edge of the clearing, arms folded, his gaze sharp and steady on me.Storm, Jake, and Milo flanked him, each looking more awake than I felt. Storm already looked impatient

Kael’s POV Elara was still smiling, her laughter spilling into the night air, and I couldn’t take my eyes off her.“You should see your face,” I teased, folding my arms as I leaned back. “You look like you’ve just discovered fire for the first time.”She shot me a look, though her grin betrayed her. “It feels like I did. You didn’t warn me it would be that intense.”“I thought you could handle it.”“You hoped I could handle it,” she corrected, stepping closer. “There’s a difference.”I arched my brow. “And yet here you are, still standing.”“Barely.” She poked me in the chest, her finger firm. “If I pass out, it’s your fault.”I caught her hand before she could pull away, my thumb brushing over her knuckles. “I’d catch you.”Her lips parted, a retort caught on the edge, but before she could answer, a voice boomed from the treeline.“Well, well, look at the lovebirds.”Storm emerged first, his tall frame cutting a shadow in the moonlight, followed by Jake with his ever-present smirk a

Elara’s POVThe cold night air wrapped around me as Kael led me away from the council hall. The echo of Marcus’s laugh still haunted the edges of my mind, but Kael’s hand was firm around mine.We walked in silence, our steps crunching over frost-coated stone until the lights of the council chamber faded behind us. Only then did Kael stop, turning to me with eyes that glowed faintly in the dark.“You were strong in there,” he murmured, brushing his thumb over my knuckles. “Stronger than they deserved.”I swallowed, my throat tight. “I had to be.”His jaw flexed, the storm inside him never far from the surface. “They don’t understand but I do. I saw it, Elara. You walked through my power as if it were smoke.”I frowned. “I didn’t even feel it.”“That’s the point,” Kael said, his voice low, threaded with awe and unease. “No one walks through Alpha dominance untouched, not even another Alpha but you…” His eyes narrowed slightly. “You didn’t flinch. Do you realize what that means?”I sho

Kael’s POVThe council chamber doors swung open again with a groan of iron hinges. Elder Ryn’s voice carried, grave and final.“The council has deliberated.”I straightened where I stood in the cold hall, my wolf pressing forward, ears pricked for the words that would end Marcus’s mockery once and for all.Ryn’s gaze landed on me. “Alpha Kael, the judgment will not be passed today. The council requires……”“Requires what?” I cut in, my tone sharper than the edge of a blade.Elder Mara rose, her hands folded before her. “We require Elara’s presence. Her account must be heard before a sentence can be delivered.”The words struck like ice. “No!!”“It is not optional,” Ryn said, his voice firm. “She was the victim, yes, but she is also at the heart of the doubts raised. If Marcus speaks lies, they must be cut down by her own tongue.”Marcus laughed from the center of the chamber, his chains rattling like mock applause. “There it is! You see? Even your elders crave her truth.”My wolf surge

Kael’s POV The council chamber was colder than usual. Not from the stone walls or the autumn wind threading through the high windows, but from the weight of what was about to be decided.Marcus sat shackled in the center of the room, a heavy iron chain linking his wrists to the stone pillar sunk into the floor. His head was bowed, his dark hair falling over his face, but every so often his lips twisted with that faint, mocking smile I had come to know too well.I stood at the front, facing the semicircle of elders seated behind the long oak table. Their eyes followed me, sharp, expectant, judging.“Alpha Kael,” Elder Ryn intoned, his voice gravel worn with age. “We are gathered to decide the fate of Marcus Ravel for his crimes against the pack. He has been accused of treason, violence against our own, and the kidnapping of Elara.”At the sound of her name, my wolf surged against my skin. I clenched my jaw, forcing him back. Elara wasn’t here. I had asked her to stay away from this,

Elara’s POV The market was alive with sound as Lina tugged my hand.“Come on, Elara, you promised you would come this time!” she chirped, practically skipping down the packed dirt road that led into the heart of the town square.“I said maybe,” I corrected, though my steps followed hers anyway.“Maybe it always means yes with you,” she said with a grin.I shook my head, but my lips betrayed me with a smile. The closer we got, the sharper the sounds became, the vendors calling out, haggling voices, laughter that sounded too thin, like paper stretched to tearing and beneath it all, the silence. The silence of all the eyes on me.The first stall we passed sold woven baskets. The woman behind it had gray hair wrapped in a red scarf. She froze when she saw me. Her hands tightened on the rim of a basket until the reeds creaked. She didn’t greet me nor did she greet Lina. She just stared.“Good morning,” I offered, forcing my voice into politeness. The woman gave a jerky nod and busied h
