CHAPTER 5

I had to leave this place. It wasn't just Selvathin’s reaction.

It was everything. The thick bloodlust that I sensed was coming my way.

However, my wolf was excited.

“Ahh.” I cried out, clutching my stomach. Carrying a wolf inside of me was another thing. Humans and werewolves were different. A pregnant wolf could get ready for child birth delivery in two weeks after she was confirmed pregnant.

It felt like my stomach was being twisted inside out.

The pain was like a sharp hot knife in my abdomen.

“Adriana. He's coming.” My wolf said, excitement filling her voice. It was like she was leaping inside me, wanting to come out.

“Can't you feel it? He's angry.” I groaned out, closing my leg tightly, trying to stop what was happening to me.

But it only reduced the pain a little.

The door swung open with a loud crash, and there he was..

Selvathin, Alpha King of the Lycan, staring at me with blood red eyes.

Relief filled me in an instant and I was overpowered by a raging sense of desire.

But no! Not this time. There was no way I'd allow myself to be used like this.

“Stay away from me.” I held out my palm, my eyes darting across the room, finding a way to escape.

For a moment, I saw his expression change and the colour of his eyes flickered back to green.

“Little wolf, you need to run.”

I was shocked. What was he saying? Was the feared Lycan King truly just a nutcase?

I bit down.

And just then, his eyes changed back to red and before I could understand what was going on, I was pinned back to the wall, his body pressing into him.

“Selvathin, please.” I begged, hoping to get into his head.

He opened his mouth, and his fangs grew out.

Blood drained from my face, he was going to mark me.

I wasn't ready. The pain from when Calvin marked me went through me. There was no way I could be prepared for me

“Not now, Selvathin. It could kill me.” I said, thinking about the weakness of my wolf.

But deep down, I craved it, was this because of the bond.

His fangs glistened and it felt like none of my words reached him as he brought his head down.

His other hand held my body down, so that I couldn't struggle.

If he applied any more strength, I was sure I would break.

I bit down on my lip, the metallic taste of blood filling my mouth.

His fangs grazed me and he let out a low growl.

“You are mine.” 

I closed my eyes tightly as he pierced my skin, I could feel the drop of blood that left my body and for a moment, everything stopped.

He inhaled sharply, pushing his head back and stopping the penetration.

I opened my eyes, he had not marked me yet.

“I'm sorry.” He looked at me, the red haze in his eyes fading into an emerald colour.

He moved away from me, while tiredness ripped through me.

“I didn't want it to be this way.” He said, turning away.

Before I could answer, a searing pain tore through my abdomen.

I screamed.

Another contraction followed immediately.

"What... what's happening?" I gasped, my eyes shifting in fear, “I think the baby…” I couldn't complete the words as I crashed to the floor.

Selvathin's expression turned grave as he looked at me.

For a  moment, I saw an understanding flash in his eyes. Did he know something about this.

“It's too soon. It's meant to take two or three weeks.” I choked out.

The corner of my eyes turned black.

"It hurts..." I cried, tears spilling down my cheeks. "Selvathin... please help me." 

His eyes sharpened, and he caught me before I hit the floor and gathered me into his arms.

"Stay with me."

"W-What's happening to me?" I whimpered. Nobody had warned me about anything like this, not even the healers back at my home pack.

His jaw clenched, but he said nothing.

Instead, he burst through the doors, holding me closer to his chest and his scent filled my nostrils, causing the pain to reduce a little.

"Castera!" he roared. "Prepare the healing chambers!"

The entire palace erupted into chaos as guards scattered from his path.

I could barely keep my eyes open, my stomach felt like it was being torn apart and my throat was strained.

I knew I was screaming but I could barely hear my own voice.

As we rushed down the corridor, voices echoed ahead.

"My King!" Castera exclaimed. My eyes floated towards her, and just like me, she had silvery hair but I had dyed mine black, because the wolves at home bullied me for it.

"The child is coming far too early," Selvathin said.

There was a brief silence, or rather, the pain affected my hearing. My nails dug into Selvathin's arm, as I silently begged him to make it stop.

Then I heard Castera's sharp intake of breath.

"...If she's truly a Moon Witch—"

Another agonising contraction tore through me before I could hear the rest. “Ahhh!”

My breath was caught in my throat and instantly, darkness fell.

The last thing I heard was Selvathin's voice.

“You are going to be alright, Adriana.”
