“But how?”

The word slipped out of me before I could stop it. My chest felt tight. “How, Marco? Was Renz never killed… or did he crawl back from death?”

Marco let out a low breath. A faint laugh followed, but there was no humor in it.

“Both,” he said. “And it’s a long story.”

I shook my head slowly. “Renz… that man Renz must be—”

I stopped when Marco’s eyes cut into me.

Sharp and warning. Jealousy flashed so clear it startled me.

Seriously?

I swallowed and cleared my throat.

“So what now?” I asked instead. “What’s the plan?”

“Nyx,” he said. “We get to Nyx. And we take her back to Renz.”

I nodded slowly. “She hasn’t really lived without him,” I admitted. “She barely functions.”

“Neither does Renz,” Marco said quietly.

I leaned back. “The house is heavily guarded now. Gabe’s unstable. He’s fighting battles everywhere—his own mess, and the one he stole from Renz.”

Marco’s jaw tightened.

“To reach her,” I continued, “you have to get past his men. And Mason her guard. Nyx chose isolation.

Fear had lived here longer than I had, but tonight my heart was beating again—not from terror, but from resolve. I had survived this place. I had survived him. And soon, everything would end. Timing mattered. And for the first time, timing was finally on my side.Luis Renz. The name tasted unreal on my tongue—sweet and sharp, like a blade pressed to the lips. He came back. After all this time. After death was written in ink, not pencil. When Mason passed Marco’s message to me, I broke in silence. I sobbed until my chest hurt, mourning everything I lost—love, blood, a future that never got to breathe. But I wiped my face clean. No tears anymore. Tears were dangerous. • THE DEVIL'S MISTRESS   The woman called trouble

Marco's PovI lay still behind the lens, watching the place Gabe called home.I’d been here for hours. He's so-called home sat quiet, almost peaceful—too clean, trimmed hedges. A perfect hiding place. The kind that mocked you by pretending nothing rotten lived inside it.I stayed still. Alone.I had sent my men out earlier, scattered across the city, whispering to those who still carried old loyalty. Men who still remembered who truly owned this town. I didn’t mention Renz. Not once. Too many words traveled fast and I wasn’t risking that.So this part was mine.I studied everything—the routes, the blind spots, the guards, their shifts. Who moved first. Who looked lazy. Who stayed alert. I memorized it all.The longer I watched, the angrier I got.Gabe had survived this long. That alone felt like an insult. And Nyx… the thought of her living there, trapped, tamed, watched like that—it burned. My fist clenched.I prayed I wouldn’t see Gabe walk out right now. Because if I did, I’d lose

  • THE DEVIL'S MISTRESS   Renz Is Alive!!!

Camila’s PovI was running late. The thought chased me down the street as I tightened my grip on the grocery bags and quickened my steps. My legs ached. My head throbbed.Nyx still hadn’t called.Days had passed. Too many.Had that bastard found her phone? The thought twisted my stomach as I turned onto my street. Since the miscarriage...she had lost her will..I really worry.By the time I climbed the stairs, exhaustion hit hard. The bags felt heavier. Sweat gathered at my back. I muttered curses under my breath, more angry at the world than myself. Then I stopped.Just a few steps from my door.My heart slammed. He was there.Leaning against the wall like he had every right to be. Pale. Tired. Thinner than I remembered. His face carried exhaustion he wasn’t trying hard enough to hide. The bag slipped from my hand.Groceries scattered on the floor.“Marco…”His name left my mouth before I could stop it.I didn’t remember moving, only that I was suddenly in his arms. He caught me with

  • THE DEVIL'S MISTRESS   The waiting game: Shadows at the door

Marco’s PovRenz’s study was quiet the next morning.Too quiet.Sunlight spilled through the wide glass windows, painting the room in gold, but Renz didn’t seem to notice. He stood there, hands behind his back, staring out like the city below owed him answers.“Lord Bronco and his men will arrive in two days,” I reported calmly. “The cargo lands the same day.”Renz said nothing.I watched him from where I stood, wondering what war he was already fighting in his head.“I was thinking,” I continued, testing the silence, “maybe the men and I should wait until everything arrives.”Still no reply. Then his voice came out low but firm.“I’ll handle things here.”He turned slightly, just enough for me to know he meant it.“There’s no need for you to delay your movement,” he added. “Get ready. You’re taking the next flight.”I clicked my tongue, forcing a grin. “You’re not even looking at me. Afraid you’ll miss me too much?”That finally earned me a reaction.Renz glanced over his shoulder, u
