Four.

(Chris’s POV)

I threw the bag filled with money in the back of my new truck. “Hurry up Lola, we don’t have the whole day!” I called out to the brown haired, beautiful lady as she walked down the marble steps of the five-star hotel we spent the night at.

She shrieked as she rushed towards me, jumping as I grabbed her and kissed her. I still find it uncanny just how much she looks like Lily and even how they shared names but for now she was using her maiden name, Lola.

“Where are we going next?” She asked excitedly.

I smiled, “anywhere you want baby.” I replied as I led her to the other side of the car and opened the car door for her.

I rushed back to the driver’s seat and I sped out of there.

“I missed this kind of life.” Lola commented. “Al and I used to be a very fun and dangerous couple and I loved that about him. But now it’s all about taking care of that little brat and he focuses his entire time and energy on that company.” She sighed.

I reached out to the bottom of my seat and pulled out a joint, “forget about that guy and let’s have fun baby!” I screamed as I lighted the joint.

Lola looked at me and chuckled, “you remind me so much of him. It’s nice to relive this part of my life again.”

I passed it to her. “To more fun to come.”

I had rented us a private airplane that took us to a different town where I also rent a condo. I had money and unlike Lily I didn’t plan to just seat on it and start working a nine to five job.

“Look at this place.” Lola commented as she looked around the room with awe.

The condo had glass walls which enabled one to look out the sky at the stars. The décor screamed of class and the white and grey colour scheme was amazing.

I walked behind Lola as I wrapped my hands around her as she was looking out through the glass walls.

She leaned her head back, “do you miss her?” She asked.

I kissed her neck, “I don’t have to when I have you around. How about we go and take a shower?” I asked with a smirk as I span her around, winked at her as I carried her, taking her by surprise as she shrieked.

I threw her on the bed as I started unbuttoning my shirt, but then the doorbell rang.

I stopped as I looked at her confused. “Were you expecting someone?” Lola asked me.

I shook my head. She wouldn’t have been expecting anyone as she didn’t even know where we were coming.

I went to open the door and before I could even see who it was the man just barged into my house. His ball cap hanging low on his face, that I couldn’t make out who he was.

“Get the hell out of my house!” I barked.

“I thought you were renting it.” The man said as he took off the ball cap. It was the man who took Lily.

“Joe this isn’t the right time.” Lola said from the top of the stairs looking down on us like a goddess.

Joe looked up at her with a smirk on his face, “I don’t think your husband will like to know that you have been sleeping around, now would he?”

“I thought you paid him, what is he doing here?” I asked confused.

Lola sighed as she came down the stairs, “exactly what I want to know.” She stated.

Joe sighed, “you asked me to do something very drastic. Betraying Alfonso. If he knew I could end up dead, and no one will be able to find me.”

“I’m still waiting for the explanation as to why you are here?” Lola stated impatiently, with her arms crossed over her chest.

“I was getting to that.” Joe replied, “I had to stick around make sure that Lily was doing what was needed and that’s when I realized that Alphonso is back with the mafia.”

“He is?” Lola asked a little too excitedly for my comfort.

“And why should we care?” I asked, as I didn’t understand why that should bother us or he should show up at our doorstep.

Joe looked at me then back at Lola. “She understands.”

Lola’s smile was spread across her face from ear to ear, “it means that he did something while trying to find me and he had to join the mafia again.” She explained excitedly, “I wonder what it is?”

“You,” I started as I walked towards Lola, “shouldn’t care because you and I are having an adventure of our own, right?” I asked, my voice sounding a little desperate. Mainly because I betrayed my partner for Lola and the least I wanted was for her to want to be by my side. “Lola?!” I called out when she didn’t respond.

“Yeah, right.” She said absentmindedly.

I turned to Joe, “how did you even know where we were?” I asked.

Joe scoffed as he stood up and walked up to the bottle of scotch that was on the table. He replied as he poured it for himself, “are you kidding me? Both of you clearly know nothing about staying under the radar, which makes me think Lily Sharpe was the brains of the operation.” He mocked me.

“We were a team!” I barked defensively.

“Mm hmm.” He said as he took a sip of the drink.

“I don’t have to prove anything to you but Lola and I are going to plan a small con for the next week and you’ll see how smoothly everything will go.” I stated, “right Lola?”

Again, no response.

I clapped my hands startling her, “Lola you need to focus!”

She shrugged, “don’t worry about Joe, he’s just trying to get under your skin.” She said as she put her arm around me. She massaged me a little, “and by the looks of it, it seems he succeeded.”

Joe chugged the rest of his drink, “you know I was planning on leaving this city but now I’m curious to see how things play out between you two. So, I’ll stick around.”

“Chris, you and I should go to the club. That’s a great place to pick out a target.” Lola said excitedly, “I’ll go get ready.” She rushed upstairs.

As Joe was walking towards the door, he stopped and placed a hand on my shoulder, “you shouldn’t have gotten rid of Lily. The only person Lola cares about is Lola.” He said as he patted me and walked out.

Lola was dressed for clubbing more than scouting for targets. The matte black dress with the front hanging so low any slight movement and her boob would fall out, it was short and the heels were high.

“Are you sure you want to be dressed like that?” I asked, “you want to play the long game but you are dressed like a one-night stand kind of girl.”

Lola smirked, “stop pretending. You like it.” She said as she walked past me and grabbing my keys on her way out. “I’m driving!” She yelled as she opened the door.

I took a deep breath, “Chris, stop acting like an old man and try and have fun.” I said to myself as I followed Lola.

I tried to have fun at the club but it was hard when the person I came with didn’t even seem to want to be around me. She was getting attention from almost all the men in the club, buying her drinks, which she gladly accepted, asking for her number, which she was eager to give out, while I sat at the bar just looking at her doing the opposite of what we were her to do.

“Hey.” A lady approached me. I didn’t even think anyone noticed me considering how I was trying to keep an eye out for Lola.

I turned to look at her, “hey.” I replied as I got lost in her piercing green eyes.

She pointed to Lola, “your girlfriend?” She asked with a light chuckle.

I sighed, “I don’t know what we are.” I replied honestly.

She chuckled, “I’m Alexis by the way.” She introduced herself with a charming smile.

I smiled back, “Chris.” I stated, “can I buy you a drink?”

Before she could even answer, Lola came stumbling back towards me, “I’m bored and exhausted. Take me home.” She slurred as she put her arm around me.

I looked from the drunk Lola to Alexis. I sighed, “I would like to stick around but…” I pointed to Lola, “I have to take her home.”

Alexis chuckled as she waved me off, “no problem. I understand.”

“Chris, can we go home now?” Lola asked again.

She had been hanging around men all night and the moment a lady pays attention to me suddenly she wants to go home? I wondered.

“See you around.” I said as I practically carried Lola out of the club.

The moment we got to the car, she started laughing. I looked at her confused.

“Are you okay?” I asked.

She turned towards me, “how good was I?” She asked.

I was too stunned to even speak.

“What’s going on?” I asked.

“I’m not drunk. I paid the bartender to change my drinks to water. Men tend to let their guards down if they think you are just another drunk girl at the club.” She replied. “Look what I got.” She said as she started removing watches, rings, wallets and other things from her dress.

I sighed as I hung my head on the steering wheel.

“I guess I still got it.” She said proudly.

I gripped the steering wheel as I yelled out, “are you kidding me?!”

She flinched as she looked at me, “what’s your problem?” She asked nonchalantly.

“What the hell are these? What are we, some high school kids trying to get money to buy a few beers?!” I barked. “You just stole a few things from people at a club. That’s nothing.”

I saw a man from the passenger side mirror approaching the door. I quickly pressed the doors lock button as soon he tried to open the door.

He suddenly pulled out a gun and I just stepped on the gas pedal and got us out of there. I started cursing as I punched the steering wheel.

“We have to leave this town now. Whoever you stole from clearly wants whatever it is back.” I stated just as a car bumped at the back of our car. In this moment I was regretting every decision I made since I agreed to betray Lily.
