CHAPTER SIX
Decapitated on her sight, the queen became remorseful, her beautiful facial features left her face, showing nothing but extreme rage. She clenched her fist and ordered all the guards in her throne to attack simultaneously. “Let’s go!” Kent commanded, sounding like a captain in a war. Like assassins in broad daylight, the escape team moved swiftly as they dodged the arrows. A series of attacks came from the massive creatures but it seemed like they can’t hit anyone but the floor. The bees flew, making advantage of their wings. The escape team became worried. they can’t go against flying enemies. Then Jessie ran, not showing his classmates that they’re in a disadvantage and threw his weapon into the air and successfully pierced one of the bees. “I guess javelin throw is a sport to me.” Jessie smiled. Jay smiled, too, throwing Jessie another piece of his spike. “Thanks.” Jessie said to Jay.
The flying bees continued to fire arrows at them but the fight has long been finished. Alex grabbed one of the bees’ weapon and fired it against them, successfully paralyzing the flying yellow predators and forcefully putting them into the floor. The bees’ numbers should decide the outcome of the battle, but with Jay’s defensive skill their arrows become evaded in an instant the moment they fire it in groups. Not long until none of the stationed guards in the throne stayed flying, the humans were victorious. The queen laughed hysterically. “HAHAHAHA! You! Spiky human! How did you acquire such power in the marshland? That thing does not exist here!” clenching her massive fist and pointed her finger to Jay. Her face became red, her charming, beautiful face vanished into thin air, showing nothing but a vengeful expression. The queen was dumbfounded, how could such power exist in the marshland, she said. Kent continued to think. Does that mean she’s not the only one who possess such monstrous skill? On the other hand, Jay haven’t talked about it but promised to, when this fight will be done. Thoughts flooded Kent but she knows she has to come up with answers, thus using the queen for her knowledge in this world. “What are you and what do you mean by not acquiring this power in the marshland?” Kent asked the queen, referring to his classmate’s ability to turn into a spiky human. The queen composed herself, trying to be dignified, putting her hand back on herself. “I do not see something that should make me say anything about you, filthy creature!” the queen said, still showing disgust but she can’t deny how our classmate Jay become something that the queen did not expect him to be. “I guess you had your fill, slaughtering a minimal amount of my men. But they’re good soldiers, though. If not for that thing, you couldn’t have won.” The queen said, she stood up, revealing a massive creature – a seven-foot-tall yellow god of death. The escape team prepared themselves, trying to see what the possible weapon the queen should use.
The queen chuckled. “Let me show you how a ruler fight.” The queen’s body melted, covering herself in a yellow liquid. The liquid began to form into something big, covering the queen’s body. The liquid began to harden, revealing something that will soon make the escape team suffer in despair. A full-plated-body-armor covered the queen, with an enormous lance in her right hand that will pierce anything that comes to sight. A swarming bee came from the hive’s different entrances trying to reinforce the queen as they witnessed their comrades’ bodies lie coldly into the throne’s floor, but the queen stopped them and possibly told them to not interfere since the bees immediately stopped after the queen raised her hand.
Outnumbered. Their feet rooted in the ground. There was dead silence. The weight of their weapon seemed to multiply into something they cannot carry and began to fall into the gold floor. For a moment, they thought victory was at grasp, but witnessing the armor of the queen, no spike could penetrate it. Garnering his little strength, Alex picked his weapon again. His hands are shaking, getting ahold of the weapon seemed to get hard. As if the that little light of hope of escaping the hive has long been extinguished. Do they have a chance? Thinking of a possible way, he threw his weapon towards the queen. Expectedly, not even a scratch was dealt to the queen’s armor. The queen laughed. Surely, she knows they’re now suffering from an inevitable defeat. Sooner or later, they’ll be back to their cages – a positive outcome, at least, for them who just revolted against a supreme leader. “Pity” said the queen. The massive predator started to move, like a wind, she flew into the air, the escape team prepared for an attack where they pointed their weapons toward the queen, but in an instant, she flew towards Christian and sliced him where he was left with an enormous wound on his chest. Kent screamed. “Christian!” she ran towards her wounded classmate trying to aid him. But what she got was another blow from the queen’s lance and was wounded, too. Blood dripping from the lance’s edge. The escape team was in a dreadful situation. Alex fired his crossbow and an arrow swiftly flew into the air hitting the queen’s armor. The queen laughed, “you never learn” she flew towards the stiffening Alex, pointing her bloody lance at him. Matt decided to run towards his wounded classmates and checked their pulses. “They’re alive” shouted Matt. Jay fired a number of spikes from his body, trying to defend Alex where the queen immediately dodge, successfully defending his now rooted classmate. “Thank you.” Alex whispered. Jay gave out a smile and gazed back to the queen. Informed of his classmates’ safety, Matt continued to fight. Spikes in each hand, Matt ran towards the flying bee. Jessie threw spikes to the queen, but the queen was very agile and nothing could hit her. Matt did the same but no one succeeded. Stopping even a second, the queen sliced them both. Both men gave out an agonizing scream before hitting the ground, fatally wounded. Jay ran towards them but Alex stopped him. “Why?” asked Jay, Alex holding his hand. “You’ll die, too.” Alex replied. Thinking of a possible way to defeat the queen Alex devised a plan. He whispered it to Jay and Jay did not accept it. “Don’t joke around!” he ran towards the flying bee and turned back, firing a number of spikes from his body but not even one pierced the queen’s armor. Alex ran the other way, making a distance from the flying creature and fired consecutive arrows from the crossbow. The queen blocked it with her lance and flew towards Alex. Alex stiffened and was hit with a painful attack. The cold golden-plated floor caressed his white skin as he fell into the ground, wounded. Jay is now catching his breath and went back to his human form. The queen laughed “What a shame, you can’t even stay longer with you power. How are you going to defend yourself against me?” the queen said. Jay, his left feet now being dragged, walked slowly towards Alex. The queen laughed as he saw these helpless humans trying to aid one another. Jay put his hands onto Alex’s unconscious body. His knees on the ground, looking at his classmate’s bloody body. “You win.” Jay muttered. “I always win.” The queen moved slowly towards Jay’s back, trying to stab him in a short distance. “Now, die.” The queen raised her weapon stabbing Jay from his head. Suddenly, a whooshing sound came from the queen’s back. Kent got a crossbow from a nearby dead bee and fired it towards the queen. The queen looked around and successfully stopped the arrow. “How stupid.” She muttered, looking at the helpless Kent. Then the queen felt something, a heavy thing jumped towards her back. Jay hugged the queen’s back, preventing the queen’s use of her wings. The queen moved angrily, trying to shrug the leeching human off her back. But it’s useless Jay locked his arms on the queen’s neck and also locked his feet on the queen’s hips. “Let’s see who penetrates first, your lance or my spikes.” The queen raised her lance, trying to stab Jay from the back, but Jay immediately transformed. Long spikes grew from his body and pierced the queen’s body. Blood splattered from the queen’s mouth, her body turned from yellow to red as blood gushed from her body and flowed outside her armor. The queen didn’t finish her scream as she was left out nothing but a painful death. After the queen’s death, the creatures around them started to fall simultaneously into the ground, lifeless. The hive was left nothing but themselves.
Jay removed himself from the lifeless body of the queen. Alex was right, the queen’s armor was impenetrable from the front, but defenseless when you attack it from the back because of her wings. “The queen’s back should be uncovered. You pretend to not want my plan and run towards the queen pretending to attack her. You said your transformation is controllable, right? Turn back into a human and let the queen bee go near before you lock yourself from her back and transform. I’ll be the bait.” Alex said, while gasping his breath. “Go.” Jay immediately ran and went on with the plan.
Jay went back to Alex and checked his pulse, he’s alive. “Dude, your plan worked.” Jay announced gleefully. Alex slowly opened his eyes. “Thank, God. How are the others?” speaking slowly as he was still suffering from the queen’s attack. “They will be fine. Kent is checking on them. They’re alive but unconscious.” Replied Jay. Alex smiled, elated by the news. Alex slowly closed his eyes, his body is heavy, wanting to aid his fallen classmates but can’t. But, he’s happy. Now, they can finally escape. He thought and slept.
Yellow predators turned lifeless and fell into their own golden graveyard. The sighs of the tired and wounded humans are the only music inside the hive. Lying onto the cold floor and some are aiding the other. Awoke and elated of the victorious battle between the supreme leader of the hive, they decided to rest. “Is everyone awake?” Kent asked her classmates. Their heavy bodies weighed them down, but they managed to nod. “Great. Guys, because of all our efforts, we emerged victorious. We may still have some problems like how we get out from this maze-like hive but I know we will, soon.” Kent’s voice assured her team. “Jay, I didn’t know you can grow spikes from the front of your body, too. I thought you could only grow it from the back.” Confused. “I could, but I don’t, since it’s a hassle whenever I walk.” Jay replied. Kent nodded and stared intensively at Jay. She remembered the promise that Jay said about his
CHAPTER EIGHT“Only a scratch?!” he shouted, after trying to slice the man with a turtle mask. Noel had always been proud of his ability to deal piercing slices. Thanks to his long, sharp claws, he had always been good in close combat. But this thing, my claws are useless with it. It seemed impenetrable. Giving so much thought to his enemy in front of him, a whooshing sound stopped Noel’s thoughts and made him take a leap backwards.“Slow, but intensively powerful. The marshland is a scary place.” He realized. If this monster is a humanoid turtle monster, why doesn’t it have its big shell on its back? Instead, a tattered, greyish clothing like a typical homeless man.“Kill…” the monster muttered. What a shivering voice, Noel thought. The monster continued to step slowly towards the humanoid cat.“I can’t deal with him like this.
“There’s a monster that needs to be defeated.” Noel said in a serious tone.“What kind of monster?” asked Alex. He noticed that his classmates are now giving all the attention to the mysterious cat man.“He’s a turtle man.” Replied Noel.Everybody looked at each other. The class might have considered that this monster, is not as ferocious or dangerous as the queen bee. For it is merely a turtle. Curious about the monster, Alex asked again.“Given that you’re asking for help, this monster might be dangerous and strong.”Noel chuckled. “Incredibly.”Alex nodded. He then looked at Kent, waiting for her response. Kent immediately get what Alex intended and asked Noel again. “How strong can this monster be?”“He’s got a bludgeon in hand, if it hits you, your skull will be crushed – into pieces.” He answered. “this monster
Walking along the darkened path of the marshland, eight brave souls decided to put their lives in danger. Surviving in these lands means they are ought to battle with creatures they haven’t seen and known before. But its absolute power can help them thrive in these lands.Gazing at the sky above, his eyes are glowing with adoration. Heavenly objects shone enough light for them to see in the dark. “Three moons…” Alex muttered. Blinking exhibits his disbelief, he sighed… they really are in a new world, he thought. Silent splashing sounds continue to resound as they stamp on the marshland’s humid environment. Life is abundant. Glowing insects are emitting their own light, turning their night into their own day. The sweet breeze kissed their skin as they continue to walk slowly and vigilantly towards the enemy’s territory. Their hands are holding spikes, thanking their classmate Jay, who became a porcupine man, not too long ago.
Darline’s knuckles tightened up, walking towards Kent who was lying on the ground looking at the night sky above her, “your fault!” pointing her finger at Kent.Kent tilted her head slowly, looking at her friend’s raging face. Kent couldn’t utter a word, she knows she should be the one to save Christian, but she didn’t. She’s still powerless. Protecting herself from her classmate’s rage could only spark another conflict. She decided to just agree and listen. That’s the only thing that she could do.“How could you? He’s our friend! Our classmate! You let those creatures eat him!” Darline’s tears continue to fall to her cheeks to the dry ground, making it the only liquid that nourishes the now dry soil.Still processing the dreadful experience, Gloyd, Ivan and Maeje sat down to the dry land, gazing at it, different emotions taken from them, leaving only the sadness behind. Alex moved tow
The dark sky soon gave up into light as the sun started to rise. Its joyful color burned the night of loss into a memory of tragedy.Heavy footsteps sounded as they followed the slow rushing sound of the lady’s tiny leafy feet who introduced herself as one of the guardians who ought to protect this world, as she had said.“Where are we going?” Alex asked.“To death.” Rabi replied.Faces of extreme confusedness flooded on the students’ expressions.“You’re joking, right?” Gloyd said in disbelief.“Not really. The place where we are going is the place of death. The creatures there are responsible for every death that happens in the marshland, we call them the Carthae also known as the scavengers of death.”“Are they the gods of this world?” Alex asked.“According to the legend, they were the first species who lived in this world, not us,
Glad and contended of the news of Christian being alive, the students began to set out to a new journey. But the poetic scavenger of death still left the team with a mind, so confused they stopped for a moment of thoughts.“leisurely but extremely mighty, I cudgel with a stick to beat. Beware the earth that is soft, my house isn’t worth to carry.”Alex repeated the poem. It may have been said once by the carthae but his ability to recall words is a topnotch in their past world. He put his spiky weapon on the ground, that was given by his classmate Jay for protection, and bit his lip. Alex’s lip biting is common to see in their past world. To him, it helps him think harder than what an average thinker would do. Their classmate’s life is in danger after all, he needs to think of the clue to be able to save his friend. What could the poem possibly mean? He thought. “Do you guys have any idea? He asked his classmates. He
"Let's add this to our collection."Kent ordered the guard bees to land, putting others to the ground, before they got hit by the three enormous birds in front of them. One of the birds tried to stop the guard bees but Kent swiftly flew towards the enemy with her lance pointing to the enemy's heart. The bird noticed it and flew backwards, dodging Kent's attack. When the guard bees successfully put the others on land, they immediately set out to help their queen where they fired poisonous arrows to the flying giants, but as expected, they were dodged easily.Alex looked at the battle above, amazed but worried to his classmate's safety. "We should help her." He said."How?" said Gloyd, his eyes were bulging, expressing extreme worry to their classmate who's in battle."I don't know, but we should. We can't risk another life." Alex replied.Alex bit his lip, thinking of another way to help their classmate."Let Kent lure the enemies to t
