LOGINAlpha Blake
I flopped back in my chair after Ryley stormed out. She was a force to be reckoned with. I'd never met anyone pack or not who could resist my command outright. I run the largest, richest pack in the wolf world. Most other packs either fear me or are too foolish not to. Young, naive alphas think they can overstep, and I always win in the end. I'd do anything to protect my pack, including kill. So having this lone wolf challenge me outright made me curious about who she really was. I'd never heard the surname Halliwell before, and that was something I intended to look into. Not every wolf without a pack becomes a lone wolf most become rogues. So a woman with a child, and no mark? Wolves can only conceive with a fated or marked mate. Which meant she had a fated mate somewhere. So where was he? And why would any wolf abandon his mate and his child? My jaw was tight, fists clenched, by the time Luca walked into my office. "Blake, you good?" he asked, taking the seat across from my desk. "No. Did you get anything out of her son?" I asked. "Nothing. He said his father was never in the picture. That's the only thing he'd answer. You should call Isaac he should've told you he was sending a wolf," Luca said. "What did she say to you?" he asked as I reached for my phone. "That her personal life was none of my business. She fought my command," I told him, and he let out a low whistle. "Wow." "Mr. Orion, what can I do for you?" Isaac answered on the third ring. "First, you can explain why you never mentioned Miss Halliwell was a wolf," I said, putting weight on the word Miss. "Did you not know?" he asked when I stayed silent. "I knew," he admitted with a sigh. "My brother-in-law scented her at a company party." "And it didn't occur to you to warn me before sending another wolf into my territory?" "I didn't think it was relevant. Her being a wolf doesn't make her any less capable," he said, defensive. "It matters. Where's the father?" I demanded. "I don't know. I've never seen her with anyone but her son." I tried to hide the satisfaction that admission gave me. "How old is she?" I asked that, at least, he could answer. "Thirty-four," he said, and I did the math without meaning to. "Blake, I didn't tell you Ryley was a woman because she's had a hard time in this industry. She's brilliant, but when powerful men learn she's not just a pretty face and that she won't take their shit they demand a man instead. Usually she works from the sidelines and lets everyone believe a man named 'Ryley' fixed the problem. She hates it, but she puts up with it for her son's sake. She's one of the hardest-working employees I have." "I understand. And I shouldn't have assumed she was male. But it doesn't change the fact that I now have a lone wolf on my land." I sighed. And I can't even command her. "What do you want to do? Send someone else?" he asked, and Gunner growled loud enough that Luca gave me a look. I pressed my lips into a line. "I'll handle it." "Yeah, I bet you will," Luca muttered, smirking. "I want her file." "I can't afford to lose her, Blake. She's the best I've got, and clients come back specifically for her. I only sent her because you demanded the best." "File, Isaac." "Fine. But she can't find out I sent it. If she quits, I'm billing you for every loss." "And Isaac for the next two months, she works for me. Only me. Understood?" I didn't need her distracted. "Understood. She won't take another case from me. I'll remind her, though I can't control what she does on her own time. But she's a hard worker I trust her." He blew out a breath. "I'll be expecting the file," I said, ending the call. Luca sat across from me, smirking. "What?" I sighed, pinching the bridge of my nose. "You want to tell me the real reason you're not sending her packing?" he teased. "You heard Isaac. She's good at her job. She already saved this pack almost a million dollars," I said, and he grinned wider. "She's also easy on the eyes." "Fuck off," I growled, and he threw his hands up in surrender. "Just saying," he said, then added, "Better move fast, Alpha. She's a beautiful, unmated wolf in a pack full of unmated males. If I weren't already mated to my fated, I'd let her dominate me." He wiggled his eyebrows, and Gunner growled loud enough that I threw the nearest book at him. Luca bolted from my office, laughing like an absolute menace. My phone chimed with an email. Isaac had sent Ryley's file. Now it was time to find out what she was really hiding. "Yes, Alpha," Warrior Aidan answered my mind-link. "Come to my office.”Alpha Blake To say this Monday was busy would have been an understatement. It's been a long time since I've had so many back-to-back meetings. And to top it all off, the board was demanding a meeting with Ryley who had barely even started. Even though I knew she probably hadn't found anything yet. I didn't even know if there was anything to find. I was spending a lot of money to ease my own anxiety. But after learning the manager had been stealing for years right under my nose, I wanted nothing left unturned. I didn't get a chance to sit down behind my desk before Aspen stormed in with Luca right on his heels. "Dad, I'm in love," Aspen announced, dropping into a seat while Luca chuckled behind him. "Oh, and who's the lucky girl?" I smirked, taking my own seat. Luca sat down beside him, looking far too amused already. "She's an older woman, but that's okay. And she already has a kid, so I get to be a dad." Aspen said it with a completely straight face, and I pressed my lips into a
Ryley My stomach grumbled as I made my way into the dining room. It wasn't busy, so I grabbed a sandwich, some fruit, and a bottle of water. I had Channing's voice nagging in my head about eating more, so I grabbed a diet soda too. I sat down at an empty table, opened the container of cut-up fruit and berries, and started scrolling through my emails. I could feel curious eyes on me, and it twisted my stomach. I should have taken everything back to my office to eat at my desk. It didn't take long before I was lost in all the unread messages, and by the time I looked up, I'd already finished eating. I was just wrapping up an email before heading back to my office when the clicking of heels on the tile floor caught my attention. They stopped right in front of my table. I could feel someone's intense glare, but little did they know I was used to being glared at, and no one intimidated me. A foot started tapping impatiently while I took my sweet time finishing my email before finally lif
Ryley The weekend went by quickly. Channing and the alpha's son, Aspen, had been inseparable. He really is a good kid, especially for one being raised by a single dad. I enjoyed having him at our place. They spent Sunday playing video games and hanging around the house. I'm used to Channing having friends, but usually the weekends were for us. I think Aspen was just lonely he'd mentioned his dad was busy with meetings all weekend. Poor kid. Now it's Monday morning, and I'm walking up to the pack house. Beta Luca is standing outside. "Good morning, Miss Halliwell," he greeted me. I was dressed professionally in a high-waisted pencil skirt and a white blouse, my heels clicking against the driveway as I walked up toward him. "Good morning, Beta Luca. How are you feeling?" I asked with a smirk. "Sore, in places I never knew existed," he groaned, and I laughed. "Come on, let me show you to your office. I'll also show you where the dining room is for lunch," he said, leading me into t
Alpha BlakeI was hitting the weights in the gym when Aspen mind-linked me to say my beta was getting his ass kicked on the training field. What the hell was going on? I grabbed my shirt and headed over, greeting pack members along the way. With everything else going on, I'd wanted a few minutes alone to work off some tension."Yeah, 'cause jerking it in the shower for an hour didn't help," Gunner snickered. I ignored him. He'd been feeding me nothing but filthy images since we met Ryley the day before. He started purring like a kitten the second we reached the field and I saw her taking my beta down again and again with technique that was flawless, almost lazy in its precision. Everyone who was supposed to be training had stopped to watch instead. I stepped up beside her son, Channing, as Ryley helped Luca up off the ground. She'd flipped him hard enough to knock the wind clean out of him. He was gasping for breath, drenched in sweat. Ryley didn't even look winded."What's going on
RyleyI don't remember falling asleep. My mind had been racing through too many scenarios all night. I needed to take back some of the control some normalcy for the both of us while we're stuck here. Channing could find a summer job in the city, or start a couple of online classes.I forced myself up. The only way back to any kind of routine was our morning run. We hadn't made it to a movie the night before, but maybe he'd want to go this afternoon. If not, I'd spend the day reading. It had been a long time since I'd had a day to myself.I pulled on shorts, a sports bra, and a tank top, and stepped out of my room just as Channing came out of his, already dressed for the run."Was just coming to get you," he said."Morning, sweetie. Sleep okay?" I asked as we headed downstairs."Really good, actually. I think this could be good for us, Mom." Chipper as ever. He'll always be my boy with the glass half full.I grabbed my phone and the house key and followed him out onto the porch. After
RyleyI was still fuming, unable to focus on anything but that smug son of a bitch and his demand that I work for him and him alone. I gave up on unpacking, grabbed my laptop, and got to work instead."Arrogant prick, demanding I only work for him," I muttered, checking my email."Isn't he perfect?" my wolf purred. She'd been in a lovesick haze ever since she laid eyes on Alpha Blake."Did you forget we already got screwed over by an alpha? He was our mate, and look how that turned out. I'm not handing myself over to another one especially one who tried to command us. We have more important things to worry about. Like Channing.""Fine. But when he leaves for college, I'm owed a good fuck," she huffed, retreating. I understood her frustration. I'd given myself to someone once, and he'd betrayed me for it. I couldn't fall for that twice. I thought I'd loved my mate, and I don't think I'll ever be able to hand that much control to anyone again.I was deep into Mr. Dillinger's finances w
